What's the story you would write if you were an author?

A lot of people worldbuild when they daydream and have the bones of a story kicking around in their brain, but have to pay the bills and raise the kids etc so they never flesh it out and write it down. What's your story's premise? Fantasy, sci-fi, alternate history, mystery, western, whatever genre.

shani66 ,

Urban fantasy/sci-fantasy, just ripping off (part of) my WoD campaign. The story of a witch surviving in a world that goes out of its way to stomp out everything that makes life worth living.

shani66 ,

Man this sub is really giving me inspiration for a ttrpg character

shani66 , (edited )

Obviously not. hurting bad people is morally neutral at worst.

shani66 ,

Eh, if I've learned anything living in a shitty little town; you are special. A deeply distressing number of people have no morality, standards, or thoughts of their own.

shani66 ,

he wasn't asking about spez? Spez isn't even in the screenshot. He's probably asking about the random guy who claims to have cornered spez.

shani66 ,

Man On Boat is the greatest spy of our time

shani66 ,

"he's a good boy! He's even going to go join an ongoing genocide!"

shani66 ,

One day it'll happen, it's right up there with a cure to aging on the scale of importance.

Camacho willingly gave over power to the smartest man on earth once he proved himself. We are no where near that advanced of a society!

Fallout Series (Why don’t I like it?)

I think my first Bethesda game was Skyrim and I love Skyrim. I’ve played through Skyrim when it first came out I played through it again in the DLC came out. I played through it again on the switch I have since played through it again on PC. I love Skyrim. I played it so many times and I know it’s a meme to keep re-releasing...

shani66 ,

To be perfectly honest, fallout 4 is probably the peak of Bethesda game design. For the most part it's incredibly shallow, like all of their games, but everything having some kind of actual use as scrap instead of a gold/weight ratio makes exploration far more rewarding.

That said, Bethesda sucks and there could be a few reasons why it shines through. they didn't have the actual TES creators' work to capitalize on and ruin, they just seem to take fallout less seriously than they do TES, and the bad gameplay becomes more apparent when you focus on ranged weapons.

shani66 ,

Oh don't get it mixed up, new Vegas is better than anything Bethesda has ever put out, it's just not a Bethesda game. 3, meanwhile, is just straight up bad. It's as unrewarding as oblivion to explore, the gameplay sucked, and the setting was stupid.

shani66 ,

What wrong with brave? Never used it and don't know much about it myself

shani66 ,

Monachopsis. The subtle and persistent feeling of being out of place, in the company of misfits and dreaming of a place to belong.

And i blame you for the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows binge you've put me on

9 years later, I finally played fallout 4

Having dropped New Vegas in the past due to lost interest, I decided to try this game out finally since a friend of mine was having a fallout 3 playthrough himself. It was it 8 bucks, so I figured why not. I have to say, I put way more hours into this game than both other Bethesda games I've played through (Skyrim and Oblivion)...

shani66 ,

It's a bad game that does some things that really make it worth playing, imo. The gunplay is mid and the social systems sucks so much ass, but not many games go for the scavenger fantasy like fo4. Throw some mods on top of the shaky base and you've got the only real good post apocalyptic survival game i can think of. Pick a spot to build up while living like a rat and you might get a few dozen hours of genuine fun out of it.

I personally recommend Frost or that modpack that turns the game into a survival horror, because the game is at it's absolute peak when you are actually desperate for three more rounds in your revolver.

shani66 ,

Hit me up when you die and I'll set you up a wooden box for $22 straight up, just a once time payment.

shani66 ,

Yeah sony hasn't been the gaming juggernaut that guy remembers in a very long time.

shani66 ,

We all know this was completely necessary at any level, but why the hifi guys? Aren't they the best bets you could hope to invest in? They make good games that sell decently with less investment than AAA massive failures need.

How come liberals dont hate conservatives the way conservatives hate liberals

I constantly see angry mobs of people decrying "woke", "critical race theory", ""grooming"", and whatever other nonsense they made up this week. They march around with guns, constantly appending lib as a prefix to any word they can use to denigrate. They actively plot violence and spew hatred in the open....

shani66 ,

Fetishization of the concept of civility. Liberals have always preferred a negative peace to even incredibly mild disruption, and that'd include hating people who want nothing more than to see the world worse for everyone. Hang out with leftists instead if you want to see people rightfully angry.

shani66 ,

I don't suffer from carrying hate. My near boundless hate doesn't do anything for my day to day, and on the off off off chance i ever get to do anything about it it'll feel so good to indulge in.

shani66 ,

Honestly nicer than any beach I've ever been to

shani66 ,

Let's be real, it was mid even back then.

How do people actually dumpster dive to get free food? Are there any other cheap/free ways like this to get food?

My local food bank can only provide 8 packages with referrals every time before you run out, and I have, but my situation hasn't improved financially due to various set backs and I'm struggling to feed myself. I've heard that supermarkets throw out massive amounts, but have never been in a position where dumpster diving seemed...

shani66 ,

Never done it myself, but wouldn't dive anywhere that serves cooked food, it can go off real quick (and they're probably trashing the stuff that has already gone off) and could contaminate other stuff or get you sick. If you're looking for help fuck managers; get to know the lowest rung, we're usually spiteful to whatever hellhole we're working at and will gladly give you stuff if we know how to get away with it.

shani66 ,

I don't think I'd buy my weed from someplace so uptight. Like, they really don't seem to get it.

shani66 ,

Maybe the world ain't so bad after all

shani66 ,

You should know that Jordan Peterson gave himself brain damage by going to Russia so he could get put into voluntary coma because he couldn't quit benzos. Everyone should know that, it's amazing.

Anyways, YouTube is almost certainly trying to force you down a right wing rabbit hole. It'll do it if you have even the boost vague interest in politics (or games!).

shani66 ,

I'm proud to be a 'loser' by our standards. I think it was theory of a deadman's lowlife that really made me think about how much better it is to simply not fucking care about all the bullshit.

shani66 ,

Who could possibly have predicted the obviously objectively bad thing would be bad?

Game studio owner suddenly lays everyone off and blames a Kotaku report that hasn't been published ( www.pcgamer.com )

In the memo, Possibility Space owner Jeff Strain, who previously co-founded ArenaNet and Undead Labs, tells the studio's staff that he was recently contacted by Kotaku reporter Ethan Gach with questions about the closure of Crop Circle Games, another studio he owned with wife Annie Delisi Strain under their company Prytania...

shani66 ,

Okay but kung fu is a very strong selling point

shani66 ,

One of my favorite obstacles I've ever placed in front of my players was a cat asking who they were. They couldn't progress until they answered due to the nature of the path they were traveling, but there was literally no way to get it wrong. The cat would accept any answer that wasn't outright bullshit and would never hurt them for lying. The duelist steps up and gives his noble affiliation, the commoner fast talker steps up and gives a not-quite-a-lie. They both repeat this process expecting to fight or talk their way through a problem that just doesn't exist, the others being too worried to do so until the npc they brought with them does the same. Eventually they all answer, with the secret heir to the throne not even giving away his title, then flounder until one of them just walks down the road. It was great watching them be so paranoid over a little cat.

shani66 ,

Are you the man woman or the butterfly bird? I, for one, hope I'm the butterfly.
