Tesla is recalling its Cybertruck for the fourth time to fix problems with trim pieces that can come loose and front windshield wipers that can fail | The new recalls each affect over 11,000 trucks ( apnews.com )

The company says in the documents that the front windshield wiper motor controller can stop working because it’s getting too much electrical current. A wiper that fails can cut visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The Austin, Texas, company says it knows of no crashes or injuries caused by the problem....

kent_eh ,

It's all part of the "move fast and break things" development process.

kent_eh ,

Are you arguing that Israel should kill children?

That's not how I read it.

My interpretation is that Israel shouldn't be creating more orphans who will have a lifelong desire for vengeance.

kent_eh ,

So you blame Israel for existing

The process that brought the state of Israel into existence caused a lot of animosity among the population who were previously there.

Add to that decades of Israel displacing more people by annexing land for their "settlements" and its not hard to imagine why there would be resentment and anger against the Israeli government.

kent_eh ,

There are some limited use cases where they can make sense.

Commuting or grocery shopping aren't among those, though.

kent_eh ,

We actually do need 0% emissions and 100% renewables.

Yes. The sooner the better.

But on the way there we have to take the wins we can get and not let perfect be the enemy of good.

kent_eh ,

It's not even limited by country. There are far too many places in well resourced countries that don't have access to good (or any) libraries.

kent_eh ,

The account’s discovery raises questions on just how many bots are operating on X, including those run by foreign adversaries

Far more than you imagine.

kent_eh ,

No more delays.

Also: you went too fast and cut corners with ArriveCan making it a steaming pile of uselessness.

kent_eh ,

will soon wash away with the rain..."

Just like any attention they may have grabbed due to their stunt.

kent_eh ,

Literally never seen one of those outside of movies.

kent_eh ,

Must be a country specific thing.

kent_eh ,

For me, the last time I was in the market for a replacement vehicle, the 2 biggest factors were availability and price.

The dealers had zero stock (except maybe a rare fully optioned ridiculously priced example of the top of the line model), and I was not in a position to wait 2+ months for a factory order of a car that I couldn't even test drive.

kent_eh ,

Import a bunch of those cheap Chinese EVs and lots of people will buy them

Or start building affordable EVs here.

Back in the 70s when Toyota, Datsun, Honda etc started eating the big 3's lunch on affordable fuel efficient vehicles, they responded with smaller cars of their own.

If they're not willing to respond to market demand and competition, do they even deserve to stay in business?

Isn't that what the "free market" they claim to love enforces?

kent_eh , (edited )

Of course. Why wouldn't a con artist go after a group that has already self-selected for gullibility?

It's scamming on easy mode

It's hard to see how they still manage to have much money after all the grifters have been picking their pockets.

How many people actually want fully on-site IT jobs?

I've been looking for a new job as a software developer. The huge majority of job listings I see in my area are hybrid or remote. I just had an introductory phone call with Vizio (which didn't specify the location type in the job listing). The recruiter told me that the job was fully on-site, which I told her was a deal breaker...

kent_eh , (edited )

You're talking specifically about software based IT jobs.

Those of us who deal with the hardware have always been and will always be on-site and hands on.

kent_eh ,

I work with a few who prefer the office over work from home.

It does allow for a more clean break between work and non-work mindset.

I find it helps maintain a more healthy work-life balance.

Plus, I work on hardware, so it's not like I can do that remotely most of the time anyway.

kent_eh ,

Aren’t fluorescent bulbs the ones that flicker?

Yes, but so do cheap LEDs (or more specifically LEDs with poorly designed drivers/power supplies)

kent_eh ,

That may be fine for regular customers, but what about the rest of us who don't have the menu memorized?

kent_eh ,

The menu is 6 foot across, above the counter where you order, glowing, with pictures of each item and number next to it

And changing pages while you're trying to parse the cacophony of choices and options.

kent_eh ,

If they do, that means they don't take design seriously

The diploma mill MBAs that run the place don't know (or care) what good design is.

They only know how to look at business costs as "cutting into our profit".

kent_eh ,

Though now I realize you actually have to get referred by one of the other members in order to start posting

That is done with the intention of keeping the quality of content high.

I doubt they want to get flooded with low effort "let's play" gamers or even lower effort AI voiceover stock footage crap.

On the other hand: most cars are not moved 23h a day. They just stand around.

It doesn't take much shade to have a signifigant reduction in the output of a solar panel.

Unless you are parking in an open field with no trees or tall buildings around, your power generation will be signifigantly reduced.

Not that the amount of power generated by a panel the size of a car roof is all that much, even under ideal conditions.

kent_eh ,

Of course, but you can't fight everyone.

Choosing your battles and focusing your efforts wisely can generally accomplish more.

The resellers still use (and pay fees to) those incumbent networks who own the physical infrastructure.

And they're reliant on those networks they are competing with to respond to outages in a timely manner.

You're fooling yourself is you think you are significantly hurting "the big guys" by going with a reseller.

The only reason to go with a reseller is if they offer better plans.

How the “Queen of Canada” and Conspiracy Theorists Splintered a Small Town | The Walrus ( thewalrus.ca )

Few people drive into Richmound, Saskatchewan, without purpose. The town, with a population of just over 100, lies around seventy-five kilometres from the Trans-Canada Highway, near the Alberta border. So when a caravan of RVs and motorhomes drove into town one day last September, it caused quite a stir. The vehicles were...

kent_eh ,

Are these lunatics still out there? I would have thought they'd have got bored, run out of money and wandered off by now.

kent_eh ,

This started way back in the 2000s and has snow-balled the last 10 years.

It was pretty common back in the '90s.

My family was approached several times by people representing foreign corporate buyers trying to buy our farm.

A few older farmers sold because they were getting g too old to keep working and their kidss had no interest in farming.

kent_eh ,

they hate the boneheaded ideas thought up in Parliament

Such as this bonehead "national service" idea that a few conservative parliamentarians are suggesting?

This idea isn't one coming from the NDP or Liberals.

kent_eh ,

Nobody is seriously talking about mandatory service in Canada are they?

The NatPo article that this article is responding to is the first time I've heard about it in recent years.

kent_eh ,

In America, it's starkly divided by generational lines,

Not as much as the "lol boomers" crowd would have you believe.

There's a lot more <50 at Trump's rallies than >60.

Same with the Jan6 traitors. Lots of them were <40

kent_eh ,

My videos are also randomly going from 4k to 360p, and having long hitches/pauses

I'm seeing this as well. Except I'm not using an adblocker on youtube, and I am paying for youtube premium...

I don't think it's entirely caused by youtube fighting adblockers. I think it's more likely just a regular, boring, old fashioned fuck-up.

kent_eh ,

I have my reasons. You may not agree, but you also don't live in my house.

kent_eh ,

Think it'd be fixed by then if it was a fuck up

Who knows. If it's not impacting a signifigant percentage of viewers enough for them to complain it may not be a high priority yet.

kent_eh ,

Once again further diluting the meaning of the words "bought" and "sold"

kent_eh ,

just don't die

So far that's been working for me.

kent_eh ,

Reddit also has vote fuzzing where you can get the number of votes, but it's always manipulated for some reason.

The stated reason is to prevent abuses like "piling on".

Exclusive: Putin wants Ukraine ceasefire on current frontlines ( www.reuters.com )

Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to halt the war in Ukraine with a negotiated ceasefire that recognises the current battlefield lines, four Russian sources told Reuters, saying he is prepared to fight on if Kyiv and the West do not respond....

kent_eh ,

Ukraine has no interest in a ceasefire that causes them to lose territory to the Russian invaders.

And rightfully so.

kent_eh ,

Putin is welcome to cease firing and get his army back on the other side of the fucking border any time he likes.

kent_eh ,

Do you realize there are 5 cases already like this? Do you know why? Because this mistake is super common.

Maybe it's common for Americans to be this lax with their weaponry?

I don't see the citizens of other countries making the same "common" mistake.

kent_eh ,

Fixing yet another part of Harper's shitty legacy.

kent_eh ,

What are they gonna do? Set up "settlements" in Ireland and Spain?

kent_eh ,

seriously doubt the USA will exist in 50 years

As someonenin a country that shares a land border with the Americans, I am increasingly concerned about the instability (and likely violence) that will accompany that impending collapse.

I hope sanity can prevail, but it's looking pretty bleak.

kent_eh ,

Call me old fashioned, but I still go to bricks-and-mortar stores to compare a few options when I'm making an important or expensive purchase.

Yes, that is getting increasingly difficult these days.

kent_eh ,

If Microsoft announces that this is going to be forcibly installed on all versions of Windows, then we can grab our pitchforks

Complaining when it is already released is too late to stop it.

kent_eh ,

Meanwhile the mis/dis-information campaigns continue to roll along at an ever accelerating speed around the world.

kent_eh , (edited )

How arrogant of those American governers to assume they can just dictate how other countries deal with people smuggling weapons into their country (even if those people claim to have done it as a casual accident).

kent_eh ,

I think nationalizing the industry is a far better state than what we have now

You may recall that was attempted in small part with the creation of Petro Canada.

And that it was subsequently privatized by a subsequent conservative government.
