I mean, it's kind of a tired joke at this point for women to be treated as these complicated, enigmatic creatures when 90% of the communication issues could be solved by, you know, talking to us.
I had someone with a super long scarf play basically the entire second half of the game with me. So fun to find ways to communicate with just the little pulses we had.
!Also absolutely heartbreaking when wet froze together at the end!<
I also played their other game Flower, on the PS3. Probably the only time I've enjoyed using motion controls on that system.
Honestly I think it's bound to come crashing down at some point. His wild promises have to get a little wilder every time it becomes apparent that Tesla stock is super inflated. Granted, I thought the horrible quality issues with the Cybertruck would've done it, but his insulating layers of tech bros have somehow carried him through it.
I'm not sure if this is the one that will do him in, but I hope against hope that people will take a couple minutes to at least think about how this would work. Even if people believe that he's somehow bypassed Boston Dynamics in the creation, let alone mass production, of humanoid robots (even though his last showing of it was a guy in a suit), surely they must realize that the human form factor is just about the least efficient configuration for robots to work in a factory setting.
I'm dreading what will happen at work. I even paid for the Win11 upgrade on my personal desktop, used it for a month and then installed Mint and never looked back. Not being able to move the start bar is such a minor thing, but it's a great indicator of how locked down that PoS is and how little they care about what users want.
It feels incredibly gross to just say "generated CSAM is a-ok, grab your hog and go nuts", but I can't really say that it should be illegal if no child was harmed in the training of the model. The idea that it could be a gateway to real abuse comes to mind, but that's a slippery slope that leads to "video games cause school shootings" type of logic.
I don't know, it's a very tough thing to untangle. I guess I'd just want to know if someone was doing that so I could stay far, far away from them.
As a huge fan of these games... absolutely. I keep coming back because I love the characters so much and the story arcs within each game can be fairly satisfying, but the overarching plot is a complete mess.
The problem is that snake oil stuff was (mostly) solved not because snake oil salesmen decided to be nice and close up shop, but because regulations and laws were put in place to protect people from them.
Likewise, we've seen crypto get hit with pretty much every issue that has ever afflicted fiat over the entire history of money. The only reason we've seen anyone get punished for it is because governments still have some jurisdiction over crypto traded by their citizens. People will say "but smart contracts!", but the only proven way to be safe with those is to verify the code is both bug-free and not malicious, and that's a lot to ask of someone trying to buy dog food. A lot of exploits have been executed on contracts that were marked safe by audit companies.
I think the idea as a concept is interesting, as I don't exactly trust the government or banks either, but I trust random black box companies and individuals a lot less.
Right, but the wild west was tamed by increasing regulation, which is precisely what crypto fans want to avoid. The truth is, though, most people won't trust crypto without some kind of centralized authority guaranteeing that their money is safe, whether that be a government or a private entity. This pretty quickly materialized with the NFT craze, which saw the vast majority of NFTs were created on the same two sites, with only the biggest names having their own domains and redundant storage for their images.
Rebecca Joynes allegedly became pregnant after having sex with one of her victims, known as boy B, Manchester Crown Court heard - she denies the allegations against her....
Sexual assault can happen to men and boys. Sure, some of them may be "fine" with what happened, but this mentality makes it incredibly difficult for male victims of sexual assault to come forward and get help when they need it. The damage isn't always apparent right away, either.
I really feel conflicted about this. I hate Musk as much as anyone and think this experiment is a little irresponsible, but if I were going through what that guy is dealing with, I'd probably want to give it a try.
I like vacations where I just go exist somewhere else. Plan a few outings, sure, go to some nice restaurants, but otherwise I just want to relax with no itinerary. The best vacations are ones where I don't have to look at the clock.
It bugs me when people say "the thing is is that" (if you listen for it, you'll start hearing it... or maybe that's something that people only do in my area.) ("What the thing is is that..." is fine. But "the thing is is that..." bugs me.)...
I mean, to me it doesn't really make that much sense one way or the other. Genuine question, how is "by" being used here? What are other examples of it being used this way?
I hate the confusion that "do you mind" questions cause.
"Do you mind if I turn off the light?"
What is meant in response: "No (I don't mind)"
What's said instead: "Yes"
I feel like two people never really know how the other will interpret it, so you almost always have to say something like "yes, go ahead" or "no, I don't mind" (or "no, go ahead"). If they do respond just "yes" or "no", I feel like I have to ask for clarification.
Also can we get the meaning of "semi-" and "bi-" figured out? I generally love the oddities of evolving language so long as we can all still be understood, but these two always require clarification.
Bi-annual: Every two years.
Semi-annual: Twice a year
But who does this actually convince that isn't already swayed by his unhinged rants and abhorrent behaviors and policies? It's no different than intentionally misgendering someone. "Collateral damage" that hurts the most vulnerable among us is not worth it just to bully someone you don't like.
Let them make fools of themselves with this bizarre infighting, they really don't need our help.
During the last 'election summer' things went haywire but ultimately nothing meaningful really happened, and not a whole lot really changed as a result of that unrest. This time things are going haywire again, and it seems like something big will happen but people thought that the last time... Would it just be better to ignore...
For a lot of people, elections (particularly national elections) don't impact their day to day life. For some, though, the outcome of those national elections are very important. If you are, for example, trans, national elections around this time could alter the course of the trans civil rights movement. The president with their power to veto may be the only one capable of halting anti-trans bills if conservatives have a slim majority in the Senate and House. That's why many trans people must concern themselves with politics and current events, must know what platforms candidates are running on and how the public is responding, must know what to expect and plan for the worst. Likewise with state and local elections, which may radically alter the life plans of a trans person. Thus, a trans person must know what's happening now, what will happen next, and what they can expect for the future
The same applies to the right to abortion, or access to Healthcare for those dealing with long-term illness, or those attempting to unionize for better working conditions. When these things affect you directly, and when candidates are running on taking away the protections you need, you can't afford to live in blissful ignorance.
So please, if you care about any of these groups, do spend a little time getting up to speed and drawing your own conclusions so you can vote in a way that you believe will improve the lives of your fellow citizens
Jesus, it's way more dehumanizing to be thought of only in relation to checks notes Large Gametes than it is to simply accept that people of the same gender can be born with different bits.
Seriously! I hardly ever carry a handbag because it's more likely than not that I'll eventually lose it. Losing my pants is a lot less common, and there's so much room for stuff! Wallet, keys, phone, knife, dog treats, cool rocks, maybe a snake. The possibilities are endless!
Not really quite as bad as the others here, but I read the first two books of the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind as a young teen before getting squicked out by it. The female lead almost gets sexually assaulted four times (one of them being when she rides into the middle of a battlefield completely naked for incredibly contrived reasons). The entire first half of the second book is the author's BDSM fantasy forced into plot relevancy. But perhaps the worst I read was some evil ritual that involved the villain cutting off and eating the genitals of a young boy.
1984 is honestly the most terrifying book I've read. I read to it see if people were invoking it in good faith (they weren't) and left with a very real fear that there will always be a more pressing issue to distract us from any real political change, even in cases where most Americans agree with each other.
The "famous for leaving the Midwest" thing is so real. I lived in a town that billed itself as the hometown of a famous country singer, themed museum and all. Looked it up one time, the dude lived there for like a year when he was three.
I think the issue is that people were expecting a custom (enough) OS, software, and firmware to justify asking $200 for a device that's worse than a $150 phone in most every way.
Below is a look at the most exasperating news from streaming services from this week. The scale of this article demonstrates how fast and frequently disappointing streaming news arises. Coincidentally, as we wrote this article, another price hike was announced....
One thing that we have learned is that piracy is not a pricing issue. It’s a service issue. The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work. It’s by giving those people a service that’s better than what they’re receiving from the pirates.
Still as relevant today as it was 13 years (dear god) ago. Sure, not every pirate would pay for media, just like not every pirate pays for games, but charging increasingly more money for a worse product is going to push people towards a solution that basically allows you to search for and watch anything you want, ad-free.
There's people practically begging to spend money for certain shows and movies to be available, but they're just not available on any streaming service. What else are they going to do?
SAME! I like to have my taskbar at the top of the screen, and seeing that Microsoft had absolutely no intention of allowing it because of their oh so special start menu sent me over the edge. Been full time on Linux Mint for about a year now and I'm loving it. Proton and Lutris have made it surprisingly viable for gaming, to the point where I can runmost games without any troubleshooting.
Well, it's been shown with previous releases and this one that Windows gets really pushy about upgrading long before EoL for the previous OS, so I can understand the frustration. Especially annoying if you're running something like a kiosk or a TV app that doesn't have mouse/keyboard readily available.
Men are from Mars...
