This line of work basically put me in the position that is the subject of commercials that try to convince suburban dads that they need a huge truck in case one day their family goes on a fictional camping trip to the middle of a swamp.
This is so on point.
So many defenders go, "It helped when I had to haul shit to the dump" or "I bring wood back to build my shed".
What about the other 95% of the year? Because I rent a van to move shit and I'm happy taking the bus.
I worked at startups and I'm not going to deny that I was absolutely horking my company as a solution for years on Reddit. Especially with niche products.
This was from 2014-2018, and then I left startups and worked in corps.
When Google has plans to slurp reddit comments, I bet I could gamify reddit even more.
My whole company moved out of windows during the pandemic. It was all forced.
And surprisingly, after a year, it was pretty smooth.
Push your IT folks to do the same everybody. The money saved is significant. And the learning curve is annoying, but not as annoying as managing Windows.
Just a shower thought. Seeing how these structures took decades to build in their times, and that too entirely with manual labour, I was wondering how long these architectural marvels would take to be built in this post modern era with the help of our technological advancements....
I can see these rules being applied if you worked at a fast food min wage or a supermarket as a stocker in a bad store. I'm referring to places where Karens abuse fresh wide-eyed teenagers hoping to change the world. In my city right now, there's a bunch of places like that, like a Wendy's in the hood or a Supermarket that has to lock up mouthwash. Its depressing.
Disclaimer: I am not trolling, I am an autistic person who doesn’t understand so many social nuances. Also I am from New Hampshire (97% white), so I just don’t have any close African-American friends that I am willing to risk asking such a loaded question.
“Focus on your core,” Murphy said, speaking at an event organized by the Automotive Press Association where he presented the bank’s annual Car Wars report. “And China is no longer a core strategy to GM, Ford or Stellantis.”
Every American brand car in the past decade looks and acts like shit and is wildly overpriced. Foreign cars continue to outperform. And a few years ago, I would have gotten a Tesla until Musk revealed he was bat shit insane.
You fill out "quests" like if sidewalks have tactile ramps (for accessibility), what type of roads, road size, store hours, if bus stops are illuminated or have a shelter, bike spots, etc....
Same! I now actively noticed when a street doesn't have specific accessibility needs. I even went, "This bus stop has a bench AND a trash can? What a treat for riders!"
Although Lemmy's userbase is quite large,it still is small enough that I do often see the same people in comment sections. It feels though, that I should recognise more names, because I can only remember around 5 individual ones.
After being outted on Reddit years ago, I made a rule to myself. If I ever become known on a platform (or on Reddit, reach 100000 upvotes), I'd delete my account and start over.
Frankly, some of the shit I've said could get me in trouble at work or my real life. So the anonymity is a boon.
If I was counting reddit, this would be my 13th account.
As a social activist and tech worker, my interests bleed into hacking, security, and doing the right thing. During my work with BLM, one of my aliases was targeted by right wing trolls. Easy to dissolve and make a new one. I worked with activists who have had their children targeted, their neighbors targeted, even their jobs threatened.
My friends and family, wife and children do not deserve any backlash for my comments.
Https://Rockpapershotgun.com is one of the few sites I still visit on a frequent basis. I don't care about half of their reviews. Their writing and personality is just entertaining and the commenters are fun.

This blog has been my late night addiction. https://crpgaddict.blogspot.com/ reviews old PC RPG games like Wizardry and Eye of the Beholder. Theyve been doing it for more than a decade.
People on Lemmy, who kinda are on the upper echelons of technical aptitude, forget that the average user is really fucking dumb. Work a stint in level 1 IT and you will get the absolute wildest head smacking issues ever.
And companies capitalize on that by making it incredibly easy to give them money.
I think McDs always planned to roll out remote customer service to really maximize capitalism. And wrapping it under AI because that's a trendy buzzword!
This is going to sound weird but Japanese companies seem to have a lot of problems with multiplayer. Im thinking of fighting games and Nintendo. Which is weird because Korea is big on MMOs and strong networking so I dunno.
I still remember when Big Data was the "hot new buzz word". Millions spent to collect every time a customer farts. What did we do with that info? Nothing really. Except be ready to apologize when it gets leaked.
Recently got Walk Scape which is a rune scape inspired game, but you do things by walking and just reads from the google analytics on your walking distance, so no gps and doesn't care where you go, just that you walk. So like to mine something, you take 10 steps, and so on. Also really nice that if you complete your current...
I know I'm preaching to the choir but for the people interviewing for their first software gig
First software gig? In this market, take whatever to get experience imo.
But that second/third/etc job? Culture, then salary, then everything else. Last interview I went to bragged about giving everyone brand new sneakers yet pay $25k less than average.
