I could see Apple buying it. The form factor makes sense, it's the fact that it relies on AI and has its own cell connection are the main issues. If I could tap it and have Siri take dictation or take a picture of something to get more information it would be pretty neat.

Chicken Tikka Masala uses waaaay fewer spices than traditional Indian food. It's the thing people who don't like Indian food order in Indian restaurants.

Limit deliveries from 4am to 7am

Oh boy I sure do love being woken up at 5am because the loud-ass delivery truck is restocking the grocery store.

Yeah, those stupid kids should just realize that one constant in America is that we kill or enable the killing of children. They should just accept that children will be killed in their name and get over themselves like us grown ups.

Those nuclear power plants won't come online for a decade at least. It's better to spend the money on renewables and storage.

Even he didn't regret it.

There is pinch to zoom and multitouch gestures on the trackpad, which I consider a lot more convenient than a touchscreen since my hand is already there.

I haven't actually bought a Mac in a long time since I get them from my job, but the Windows laptops I've used and seen don't have the build quality, and having a big network of retail stores is a nice insurance policy. And if I was going to buy a Mac I'd buy refurbished anyway.

I've been a Mac user since the late 80s so I have the opposite problem with keyboard commands on Windows and Linux that you do.

Most of the people I've seen who use Macs - mainly developers working with Linux servers - do use it because it has a shell. (Though Apple switched to zsh not too long ago.)

For one, being independent, not relying on a schedule. Not worrying about missing their transportation and catching a later one, then being late to the arrival of their destination.

This is my big problem with public transport. It might be an issue of funding, but this sort of scheduling gives me a huge amount of anxiety. I would rather drive and know that I can leave when I want, and that any delays won't be a problem, than to worry about the making it to somewhere at a specific time lest I miss my bus/train/plane.

And the more modes of public transit we add to the journey the worse my anxiety. If any of those connections is delayed or late I have no control and will miss the next leg of my journey, which will push all the other steps around and suddenly I have to get a hotel or something because there's no way to get to where I'm going until the next day.

At least if I'm caught in traffic I can try to route around it, or I can leave a earlier or later to avoid it, and the person who's affected by these delays is the one who has some power over mitigating them. If it ends up that I'm driving overnight I can pull over and sleep in my car for a bit and then keep going.

I've used one for a very light coating or powdery snow, but more than a couple inches of that it's just easier and faster with a shovel

I live in a place where if someone slips on your sidewalk they can sue, so I'm a little more cautious about it.

Assuming we get snow ever again...

For injuries related to slipping and falling. It's a real thing, and why a lot of places nearby don't even have sidewalks to avoid this liability

Corporate real estate is on a 'cliff edge' as firms race to rethink communal spaces ( www.bbc.com )

As more employees work from home in the hybrid-work era, many companies are finding they need smaller offices. Compared to pre-pandemic floorplans designed to house as many workers as possible, more businesses are looking towards more compact but higher-quality spaces for the future....

I would love to see some hard data on this, but I wonder how much of the increase in corporate purchases of homes is driven by the need to prop up their flagging real estate investments.

Interestingly, I lived in a small town of 3,000 people and up until the 1950s it had a trolley to the nearest small city, which then had trains that took you to the big city, and from there you could go anywhere.

But now the trolley sits in the town square as a monument, mocking everyone as they drive by.

[Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism?

Seen a lot of posts on Lemmy with vegan-adjacent sentiments but the comments are typically very critical of vegan ideas, even when they don't come from vegans themselves. Why is this topic in particular so polarising on the internet? Especially since unlike politics for example, it seems like people don't really get upset by it...

Take Two interactive is really lucky this happened right after they sacked the KSP2 team, otherwise people would be talking about that instead.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod ,

The most depressing thing I’ve seen related to this topic. A small team that worked incredibly hard were lucky enough to achieve the impossible, and now they watch without any control as it is taken from them, for no other reason than greed.

KSP's original team must feel the same way

But that's not how things work here.
