Hildegarde ,

We've had flying cars for about 60 years. They're called helicopters.

Hildegarde ,

If they made you forget, why would they admit to it on a sign? Does that make any sense whatsoever?

Hildegarde ,

But symphony 45 really was written to resolve a labor dispute. That is true.

Hildegarde ,

Imagine designing a bicycle without triangles. Every joint needs to be overbuilt, because there's no structure from the geometry. But you make sure it still has a top tube, so its just as hard to mount and dismount as a normal bike. Incredible!

Hildegarde ,

Its a 15 gallon tank, and testing methodology that doesn't reflect reality.

The 2024 prius would get 750 miles according to the EPA's estimates if it had the same sized tank.

Hildegarde ,

Because the US is not allowed to put boots on the ground in Palestine, they are relying on isreal to build the part of the aid pier that connects it to the land. This plan relies on having the people who are blocking the aid, build the pier that bypasses their attempts to block the aid.

It's not surprising that no aid trucks are able to enter despite the pier.

Hildegarde ,

So they're just like Uber. Why didn't they put a 100% tax on them?

Hildegarde ,

I used a nokia dumbphone and it was awful. Not awful due do a lack of features, but awful due to how poorly those features are implemented. Kaios is teal garbage.

But the form factor was lovely, and physical buttons are so much more precise and comfortable to use than a touch screen.

The phone that I really want is a small smartphone with physical buttons for typing and navigation. As far as I am aware that is something that is not made these days.

Hildegarde ,

You can delete files by overwriting the data. On Linux its shred -zu [file]. Its slow but good to do if you are deleting sensitive data.

Its good its not the standard delete function.

Hildegarde ,

If you delete normally, only the index of the files are removed, so the data can be recovered by a recovery program reading the "empty" space on the disk and looking for readable data.

If you do a single pass erase, the bits will overwritten one time. About half the bits will be unchanged, but that makes little difference. Any recovery software trying to read it will read the newly written bits instead of the old ones and will not be able to recover anything.

However, forensic investigation can probably recover data after a single pass erase. The shred command defaults to 3 passes, but you can do many more if you need to be even more sure.

Unless you have data that someone would spend large sums on forensics to recover, 1 to 3 passes is probably enough.

Hildegarde ,

Have any of the involved voice actors confirmed the claims made in the article? I've seen multiple articles on this game, and the only quotes are from the game's director.

So far I've only seen one side claim this is ethical. That's not enough.

Hildegarde ,

That is not a reasonable first step.

Biden has paused and threatened to stop weapons shipments, but those only ever included offensive weapons.

They have a defensive anti-rocket system that requires regular shipments from the US. Biden never threatened to cut those supplies off, nor has he threatened to cut off any of the other aid they receive.

Stopping all weapons shipments would change their behavior. Better thing to try instead.

Hildegarde ,

The country exists because of us support. All of their neighbors hate them. Cutting off all military aid would be crippling, not something that could be ignored.

The us has a ton of leverage without a coup or invasion. Better to start with that.

Hildegarde ,

The US subsidizes american car companies too. Pot calling the kettle and all.

Hildegarde ,

All auto manufacturers put spyware in their cars now. This isn't a china problem, this is an everyone problem. We need anti-spyware laws that apply to everyone.

EA wants to place in-game ads in its full-price AAA games, again ( www.techspot.com )

EA has tried this before, with predictable results. In 2020, EA Sports UFC 4 included full-screen ads for the Amazon Prime series The Boys that would appear during 'Replay' moments. These were absent from the game when it launched, with EA introducing the ads about a month later, thereby preventing them from being highlighted in...

Hildegarde ,

EA already did this. Many games had real ads on billboards in the world. Need for speed underground 2 was sponsored by cingular wireless. Your ingame pager was product placement and the company's logo was on screen whenever you were doing free roam.

This is very EA with historical precident.

Hildegarde ,

They could sell the studio without the IPs, bring in some revenue, but it's worth more to kill the studio than let it exist to compete.

Hildegarde ,

In the US the permanent resident card is green, and its often called the green card. Sometimes americans use the term for equivalent documents in other countries.

Hildegarde ,

I'm pretty sure she's from the American Capital Territory. It's often mistaken for the only state with the word state in its name so I understand the confusion.

Hildegarde ,

Arcane austin was already killed by the development of redfall. Most of the talent responsible for making dishonered and prey the games they were left during development of redfall. If arcane austin went back to making immersive sims instead of closing, it would be a new team making it, with little help from the pedegree implied by arcane's legacy.

Keep in mind however that arcane was two studios, the main studio in lyon france, and the other in austin texas. Dishonered was developed jointly. Dishonored 2 was lyon, pray was austin, and deathloop was lyon.

The lyon studio still exists. They are continuing to make games. The only thing announced from arcane is the marvel's blade game. Not optimistic, but arcane may still be around a while yet.

Hildegarde ,

Oxenfree is an adventure game that takes place on an island off the coast of northern Oregon. Good little game that tells its story in about 5 hours.

What linguistic constructions do you hate that no one else seems to mind?

It bugs me when people say "the thing is is that" (if you listen for it, you'll start hearing it... or maybe that's something that people only do in my area.) ("What the thing is is that..." is fine. But "the thing is is that..." bugs me.)...

Hildegarde ,

I still don't know what a preposition even is. What are they even for?

Hildegarde ,

CG artists use available assets to finish project on time, within budget. Don't trust any computer generated speculative graphics to be accurate in any way. Some artists are just filing in the blanks to get the thing done.

Hildegarde ,

The rendering looks way too 90's to be made my modern AI image generation. Why would anyone ask midjourney to generate images that look like they were made in Bryce, when they could have it make anything else?

Hildegarde ,

And facebook tells its users to vote. Encouraging people to make their voices heard and engage in the democratic process is a good thing.

Hildegarde ,

The bill literally mentioned tiktok and bytedance on the first page when first introduced. They wrote the bill to ban tiktok.

Hildegarde ,

Judges decide the law, juries decide the facts. Juries are only needed if there is a material dispute of the facts. I doubt this case would have a jury even if it didn't end in a settlement.

Hildegarde ,

No, she's not covered in oil and its not raining.

Hildegarde ,

Old anti piracy measure.

Games were on floppies and could be copied trivially. Games also came with a printed instruction manual. If you bought it, you'd have the manual. If you're just playing a copy you wouldn't. So type one word from a specific page so we know you own the game.
