Did you just step out of a time machine?

If they did, I strongly recommend they go back.

Looks like this one needs a /s tag.

Sometimes I try to visualize smug, snarky comments like this if it were about something I believe in. Like, if there were a mixed race proposal and it said "Racism is so defeated," would that be any better?

No, it's cringy as hell. Makes the proposal seem like it's about some agenda rather than loving the person.

An actual homophobe is unlikely to use a term like "being happy" here.

Pride month, to him, is about LGBTQ people hating non-LGBTQ people. By demonstrating a hetero proposal, he is somehow sticking it to the awful queers who want such things abolished.

He's a hateful idiot and thinks everyone else is, too.

Yes, he decided to turn it into a political statement. Classy!

If it's the one I found looking online, the guy's boss did it as a practical joke and didn't "blow him up", but caused internal damage that he died from 15 days later.

Tesla is recalling its Cybertruck for the fourth time to fix problems with trim pieces that can come loose and front windshield wipers that can fail | The new recalls each affect over 11,000 trucks ( apnews.com )

The company says in the documents that the front windshield wiper motor controller can stop working because it’s getting too much electrical current. A wiper that fails can cut visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The Austin, Texas, company says it knows of no crashes or injuries caused by the problem....

I've seen a few around, and I always think "It's the N64 truck!"

Two seconds is more than enough time to turn it back or get out of the way.

That's true. Turn off, dodge, try again, then.

This reminded me of a time I went up and petted a cow and it turned and gave me the most wide-eyed horrified stare I've ever seen. I felt bad.

It's real, and really impressive for 1460. The only one that qualifies as a superb owl, I think.

Oh, I thought maybe it was from that creepy Jehovah's Witness propaganda show, although comparing the mother directly, the meme image is clearly of higher quality.

Yeah, they're really disturbing. Great instructions on how to fuck up your kid's mental health (as if the world today needs more help with that).

TIL about Roko's Basilisk, a thought experiment considered by some to be an "information hazard" - a concept or idea that can cause you harm by you simply knowing/understanding it ( en.wikipedia.org )

Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment which states that an otherwise benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI) in the future would be incentivized to create a virtual reality simulation to torture anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to...

Pascal's Wager always seemed really flawed to me even through a purely Christian perspective. You're saying that god is so oblivious (even though he's supposed to be omniscient) that he'll be fooled by you claiming to believe just because you're hedging your bets? The actual reason it's dumb is that it's not a binary choice since there are thousands of ways people claim you can be saved in various religions.

    samus12345 ,
    @samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

It is also regarded as a simplified, derivative version of Pascal’s wager.

It was a response to this part.

The "wager" that makes the most sense to me, then, is to behave as if there is no god that cares what you do or who you worship. Try your best to be a positive force in the world, because whether anything we do matters to the universe or not, it matters to us humans.

Very true - Old Testament god in particular was really dumb and didn't even know what was going on in the next town over.

Do you think people 2000 years ago were all stupid?

No stupider than people now. Christianity remains very popular.

I would classify it as "good, but not as good as the first one". And notably better than Pixar's recent efforts.

Israel simultaneously wants to live in peace as a liberal Jewish state without committing any form of ethnic cleansing; and achieve its manifest destiny of establishing a Jewish theocracy across Judea and Samaria.

A country at war with itself, much like the US.

They start next year! Is Gen Gamma gonna be next? The generation naming is getting pretty lazy. Maybe a different name will stick, like "Millennial" did instead of "Gen Y".

Most people just flip it over and skip the maze.

I really appreciated that they let you do that. "So what if I just, like, flip it over?..."
