Seems like we're all in agreement that all information should be free, I look forward to them open-sourcing every proprietary bit of code they have

I've got quite a few IKEA Trådfri bulbs and I don't think I've ever had a problem with one (and if I did IKEA are generally pretty flexible with returns for up to a year). They're pretty good, use ZigBee and so work well with home assistant, the IKEA app isn't too bad, and they're half the price of Phillips Hue.

smeg ,

The only time mine whined were in a very old lamp and when in a socket which still had an analogue dimmer switch - when I swapped that for a normal switch it solved the noise.

smeg ,

Mutation testing is a cool concept, but what's it got to do with the fediverse?

smeg ,

Definitely not always, I remember buying games and accessories there many moons ago!

smeg ,

EB bought them and did a "reverse takeover"

TIL!

smeg ,

Dedicated AI button: ✋😒

Dedicated change-LED-colour button: 👈😯

smeg ,

I do have a Logitech mouse and as far as I'm aware all the buttons are customisable (through their questionable program), so hopefully this is just marketing nonsense

smeg ,

This one? Noted!

smeg ,

Yeah but seeing actual proof is always important

smeg OP ,

I've got an NPC who has been in the last six towns because nobody ever wants to talk to them

smeg OP , (edited )

Chess clock / egg timer. If they don't decide fast enough then no action for them! You don't even need to actually do this (it would be a bit extreme in most situations), but the threat that it might happen should give them the necessary kick. Too much time deliberating? This monster just remembered it can take a legendary action on your turn!

smeg OP ,

So they means they still find it but it takes ages and a monster sneaks up on them in the meantime, right?

A supermarket trip may soon look different, thanks to electronic shelf labels ( www.npr.org )

Grocery store prices are changing faster than ever before — literally. This month, Walmart became the latest retailer to announce it’s replacing the price stickers in its aisles with electronic shelf labels. The new labels allow employees to change prices as often as every ten seconds....

smeg ,

Isn't the real use case just so they don't have to waste staff time changing labels manually when stock changes or moves?

smeg ,

A bit of that, but hopefully if they piss off too many people they'll just go elsewhere

smeg ,

Somehow I don't think it also deletes the password too

smeg ,

If you're concerned that might be about to happen you could just hold the power button until it shuts down or reboots, Android always asks for the password at boot AFAIK

smeg ,

Had a security update recently?

smeg ,

Nice, given how most manufacturers tend to abandon anything older than a couple of years I am pleasantly surprised!

smeg ,

TL;DW: the ads will be in the video stream itself which will mess up timestamps, sponsor block uses timestamps to know when the ads are.

Seems to me that this will also break every other use case of specific times like direct linking to a timestamp of a video, right?

smeg ,

If Google can do that then hopefully sponsor block can too!

smeg ,

Hopefully they'll realise it's a bigger breaking change than they wanted as part of this testing phase

smeg ,

Yeah I do. They still want to be able to sell their premium subscriptions and not every engineer working on the product is some soulless corpo. If they can break all adblockers without damaging their product they will, but if it fucks things up too much then they'll go back to the drawing board and try something else.

smeg ,

Yeah but only poshos call it "soccer" here to distinguish it from "rugger"

smeg ,

Public schoolboys (i.e. the very posh), yes it's weird

smeg ,

Exactly! Write your code to be as clear and self-descriptive as possible, and then add a comment if something is still not immediately obvious.

smeg ,

Commenting the why not is key. Half my comments are explaining why I had to use this hack as a warning that the obvious fix doesn't work!

smeg ,

They weren't recreational in this situation, strictly for business purposes!

smeg ,

So it's a re-remaster? Or is there something new compared to the Extended Edition?

smeg ,

testing

If you don't consider this part of "writing code" then I don't want to run any of your code

smeg ,

Good philosophy. I've found that I'm much happier on the internet since I stopped being bothered about other people being "wrong". I cannot save the world, but if I can help out a few people then that's enough.

smeg ,

Galacticare is out now on PC, Xbox and PS5.

I don't think this is a mobile game

smeg ,

We've even got !homeassistant (and on a smaller scale !smarthomes) right here!

smeg ,

Reads to me like "oh no, our automated verification is perfect, there was just one rogue human who has been punished/corrected/re-educated so there's no way this could ever happen again, case closed"

smeg ,

So can any Android device! Why is this Samsung being called out specifically, just because it has good specs or is this a sponsored post?

smeg ,

Fudging a roll is for when I, the DM, realise I made a mistake. No, I didn't realise this creature got a sneak attack until after I rolled that 20!

smeg ,

Only sorcerers get them as a class feature, but any spellcaster can take the metamagic adept feat

smeg ,

I missed it at the time and played for the first time recently. It was great fun, but yeah pretty difficult mainly due to how slippery Mario is. I did feel less bad when I watched a GDQ speedrun and even the runner fucked up!

smeg ,

It reads to me more just as a statement of contrast, as in 'we're in a world of incredibly high-tech new technology, we shouldn't still be using something from the Victorian era!'

smeg ,

I approve of more deranged Lancer posts!

smeg ,

If I can't read or even search it without creating an account then it's pretty useless as an information source. Same issue with Twitter and Instagram.

smeg ,

Man, these "realistic shooters" sure have changed in the decade since I last played one!
