Video source for those who don't feel like clicking around.
They don't go into detail, but I'd be real interested to see a breakdown of how this was made. It looks almost entirely like actual Sora output, with the exception of Geoffrey and the TRU logo, which I think are comped-in renders. But the rest of it all looks like genuine AI output, all the way down to a bit of R'lyehian text in a few places.
It's honestly a little scary how good this looks. Granted, this was made by a professional media team who understand how these tools work and know how to use them better than anyone else, so of course it's going to be good. But it won't be long at all before this becomes the baseline.
And instead mentions Bluesky, which I wouldn't even really classify as part of the Fediverse. Sure, it's federated, but it's pretty much just federated with its own self, and isn't accessible from any part of the Fediverse at large.
There needs to be actual content rules. TIL worked best when the mods actually adhered to those content rules. Otherwise you just have people posting all kinds of nonsense. Quality is better than quantity
@crossmr Is this in regards to my thread about Roko's Basilisk? I checked the sidebar before posting, and didn't see anything that suggests it was a bad fit for this community.
@crossmr I mean, what else would you expect people to post? Any new thing you learn is something you're discovering the existence of for the first time.
What sort of posts would you recommend? "TIL how to change a tire" with a link to a tutorial video? Not being sarcastic, genuinely asking, because I feel like what you're suggesting would exclude almost anything from being posted, unless I'm misunderstanding you (which I probably am).
E: I just took a look at some of the other recent posts, and I see what you mean. There's a lot of low-effort threads that aren't really doing much to encourage discussion.
Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment which states that an otherwise benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI) in the future would be incentivized to create a virtual reality simulation to torture anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to...
Lack of voice chat, message history, media hosting, screen sharing, or just about any other feature most people actually want these days. The people who want a live, purely text-only service are a stark minority anymore.
In December 2019, astronomers were surprised to observe a long-quiet galaxy, 300 million light-years away, suddenly come alive, emitting ultraviolet, optical, and infrared light into space. Far from quieting down again, by February of this year, the galaxy had begun emitting X-ray light; it is becoming more active. Astronomers...
Although Lemmy's userbase is quite large,it still is small enough that I do often see the same people in comment sections. It feels though, that I should recognise more names, because I can only remember around 5 individual ones.
Lemmy's still small enough that if you're even remotely active, you start to recognize just about everybody. I like that, and I kinda miss that about the smaller communities/forums of the old internet.
That's precisely the problem; they continue to support the game, in the state that it's in. Honestly, an appropriate move would be for them to officially discontinue support for the game altogether (even if that means not having a new IP to replace it with). This means turning off their official servers, and removing the ability to buy/sell inventory items on the Steam Marketplace.
Right now, Valve allows people to sell items for real money (which they take a cut from) in a game that is overrun by bots. They need to either fix the bot problem, or stop taking people's money.
Just one. Technically, it's this one. My "main" account is my kbin.social account, but it's so frequently having performance issues that I've been using this account almost exclusively for a while now.
Nicely executed VFX experiment (they have a companion video on how they did this and what their motivation was, which is interesting if you're into VFX stuff).
Gaussian splatting, and yeah it looks like fascinating tech! From what little bit I can understand of it, it seems even more impressive just how much detail they were able to get out of it. I wanna see them experiment more with it.
Contact images, perhaps? Or maybe just aesthetic purposes with however they're choosing to distribute their contacts, and don't want to paste QR codes in places. For contact transfer, I don't think there's much technical advantage to using NFC over a QR code, since QR codes can fit a lot more data than most people realize.
The fact that the US allows companies to flat out steal your device during a repair process is insane.
The US doesn't allow it. Google won't keep your phone; they'll just refuse to service it. They had that line in their TOS for their own protection for weird scenarios, but they're not going to keep your phone. Why would they? It's broken and full of parts they can't use; they're not going to just let it occupy space in their warehouse, they'll send it back.
This whole thing is an absurd overreaction to a poorly-written line in a TOS that has never even been enforced.
I've lived under a rock for 10 years. I did Metro ages ago while most were still on contracts. Surely we've reached true capitalist open market freedom by now. Is it still total closed market, noncompetitive, privateering corruption?
I am on Fi and can confirm that this is how my plan works. I pay a standard rate per GB of data used, up to a cap where I will not be charged any more for the cycle.
Google: "Thanks for your feedback, we hear you loud in clear. In response, we've launched 5 new messenger apps (only 3 available in your region), changed the names and branding of 3 other messengers, and completely discontinued 8 other messenger apps. We hope you enjoy playing our little game of Three Card Monty trying to figure out which messenger actually works now."
Tack "&udm=14" on to the end of a normal search, and you'll be booted into the clean 10 blue links interface. While Google might not let you set this as a default, if you have a way to automatically edit the Google search URL, you can create your own defaults.
They don't need to "find" a workaround. They put this there. This isn't some sorta "hack", it's literally a feature Google built into the page. This feature will exist for exactly as long as Google wants it to.
I'm not well-versed in Iran's politics, but is there actually any hope that his replacement will be any better for the Iranian people? I'd have to imagine that whoever is next in line would already be very much aligned with his existing policies.
I've not heard of this project, but it seems quite old at this point. Does this even still have any impact on advertisers anymore? I'd imagine that this would be something that is quite arbitrary to detect and account for, in terms of their ability to track users.
Yes, and I've seen this brought up a bunch recently. I think somebody has some weird personal grudge against her, and has been editing Wikipedia pages and submitting fake "tips" to gossip outlets to report on it. Most of the actual reports of Elles being underage have been deleted, likely because they weren't true. I haven't found any piece of material from a reputable source reporting this, either. I've looked into this before, and I've found no actual proof that she uploaded anything illegal, or that her award was ever rescinded.
NSFW LINKS: The most "proof" I could find is that comparing the oldest available Archive.org backup of the page to the current page shows that some of the header images have been removed, but her name and award title were never mentioned in the text of either version of the article.
Now, I'm not one to espouse conspiracy theories, but I don't think it should be ignored that the earliest reports of this claim appear to come from somebody with a financial incentive to make these claims, so interpret these findings how you wish.
EDIT: I won't be surprised if this thread or OP's video end up deleted soon. From everything I can see, Elles is likely very good at takedown requests by now. Especially considering she got OP once already.
As somebody who put probably hundreds of hours into the Banjo-Kazooie games on N64 as a kid, I really wanted to like Yooka-Laylee, especially since they got Grant Kirkhope back to do the music. But something about the controls just felt really clunky and unintuitive, and I never made it more than a few hours into the game. I really ought to give it another shot at some point.

That seems like a pretty big oversight on the Lemmy development side of things. There should, at the very least, be an option to submit a report either anonymously or to have it tied to your account. A disclaimer could be included that anonymous reports cannot be responded to in case that is a concern for users.
