I didn't even know it was out. I thought it wasn't coming until later in the year.

There no way this wasn't a flop

Apple is bringing RCS to the iPhone in iOS 18 | The new standard will replace SMS as the default communication protocol between Android and iOS devices ( www.theverge.com )

The long-awaited day is here: Apple has announced that its Messages app will support RCS in iOS 18. The move comes after years of taunting, cajoling, and finally, some regulatory scrutiny from the EU....

RGB3x3 ,

It's the replacement for SMS... Are you upset that WiFi phone calls are tied to your phone number?

RGB3x3 ,

And making sure to tell the USA how stupid they are at the same time.

A bit hypocritical, eh?

RGB3x3 ,

So it seems we don't create our own hero? Which, I get that it would limit facial animations and dialogue, but becoming your own hero was such a huge part of Fable.

Anyway, it looks stunning, graphics-wise. I'm looking forward to it for sure.

RGB3x3 ,

Google the company doesn't deserve to be a verb

RGB3x3 ,

Hoo boy, Kevin Hart doesn't even look like he knows how to hold a gun at all. Did nobody think to give him any semblance of weapons training?

RGB3x3 ,

Sounds like you're older though. Social media wasn't nearly as ubiquitous a decade ago as it is now.

There was separation between online and everything else. But for these kids, online is everything. The spaces are nearly equal in experience and importance.

RGB3x3 ,

Bruh, same team, same fight.

How could they not see how hypocritical that is?

RGB3x3 ,

And they rightly fucking deserve it.

If you house the fascists and bigots, you become a house of fascists and bigots. It doesn't matter what the individual believes if they continue to give audience to those people. They become indistinguishable from them.

RGB3x3 ,

Fucking within like 2 minutes of using their apps too, they ask, "do you like the app?" Then another popup that says, "provide feedback for why you don't like our app?"

Because you keep getting in the way of me actually doing what I need to do. And it's getting uninstalled as soon as I'm done with it.

RGB3x3 ,

It would be so interesting to see how the internet reacts to YouTube going paywalled. It would probably kill a lot of YT creators' revenue and views.

Or maybe people would pay for it, idk. Do people spend more time on YouTube than they do Disney+ or Hulu or Netflix, given YT Premium's cost?

RGB3x3 ,

I'd imagine there would be a way to automatically delete the file if you've watched a certain percentage and it's been a certain amount of time.

IDK, I'm not a programmer.

Google has been bad for a long time, but they've shut the bed so hard lately. Seriously, look at this:

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/8dafac0a-6450-4a80-b44e-712dc6dbe280.png

I actually run out of screenshot space before I can get to an actual regular search result!

RGB3x3 ,

They could probably overload the circuitry to make it unusable. Or use like, IDK, mini explosives?

RGB3x3 ,

The problem with AI CSAM generation is that the AI has to be trained on something first. It has to somehow know what a naked minor looks like. And to do that, well... You need to feed it CSAM.

So is it right to be using images of real children to train these AI? You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who thinks that's okay.

RGB3x3 ,

Why do people say "graping?" I've never heard that.

Please tell me it doesn't have to do with "The Grapist" video that came out on early YouTube.

RGB3x3 ,

Are there any guarantees that harmful images weren't used in these AI models? Based on how image generation works now, it's very likely that harmful images were used to train the data.

And if a person is using a model based on harmful training data, they should be held responsible.

However, the AI owner/trainer has even more responsibility in perpetuating harm to children and should be prosecuted appropriately.

I recently got out of the military and it's been a complete shock how bad the private healthcare system is. So much red tape, so many charges, so much money being spent on both ends: to the insurance company, again to the insurance company (copays), and then to the provider when the insurance company won't cover things.

With Tricare? "Hey doc, I need this med for my migraines." "Alright, here you go." No charge.

The American health system is a complete scam keeping people under the boot of their employers and of the for-profit insurance companies.

Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads ( www.techradar.com )

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

RGB3x3 ,

I wasn't able to upgrade until last year. And there are still places around me that don't have fiber

RGB3x3 ,

My laptop just updated (windows 11) and they now put bullcrap tips, weather, and stocks cards on the lock screen if you want to use the daily landscape images.

Love the landscape images, but those cards are now not optional. Fucking moronic and I need to just get off windows entirely.

RGB3x3 ,

You maybe should put great great great grandpa in the ground by now, he's starting to smell.

RGB3x3 ,

The first most popular being Spy Kids of course.

RGB3x3 ,

No less than 10 minutes, but no more than 45 minutes.

That actually might be amazing.

RGB3x3 ,

It's both, depending on what word my brain decides to use at the time.

But I think usually that would be a "sweater", a "sweatshirt" doesn't have a zipper or hood, and a "jacket" is made of, um, jacket material.

RGB3x3 ,

Fingerprint [records]. It says that in the article. Does it please you to be so pedantic?

RGB3x3 ,

All to do what? Write emails and generate mediocre pictures?

The usefulness of AI currently is not much better than predictive text.

RGB3x3 ,

I legitimately thought David Copperfield was dead. Didn't he die during an escape stunt?

Or was that someone else?

RGB3x3 , (edited )

You'd just have the religious nutjobs get the thing shut down in the name of "saving the children."

I don't know what the Baghdad citizen would do though.

(In case this goes over people's heads, I'm calling the Mississippians the religious nutjobs)

RGB3x3 OP ,

It's the line on the right side. I'm in portrait mode, so it should be at the bottom.

RGB3x3 OP ,

Yeah, Pixel 8. I feel like the software is so full of bugs, at times it becomes unusable.

RGB3x3 ,

You're right about Google being trash at answering that.

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/eab41c6d-1a11-4332-b1e3-95c7a90258c5.png

It just completely ignores the question.

RGB3x3 ,

Jesus wasn't hanged, but he sure was hung.

RGB3x3 ,

Fucking Tropic Thunder is such an untalked-about masterpiece.

RGB3x3 ,

I disagree. Protesting with guns just means the whole thing would devolve into a firefight with more civilians than police being killed.

And there's the strong likelihood in that situation that innocent bystanders would be murdered.

RGB3x3 ,

I work in the government and I honestly don't know when anyone does any real work. It's meeting after meeting overlapping other meetings. All week.

How does stuff get done, seriously?

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year ( www.billboard.com )

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

RGB3x3 ,

This works with my listening habits, which are something like "I have like one new (-to me) album on heavy rotation every couple of weeks"

I actually kinda do the same thing, so you've got me thinking I should start just buying albums. Build a Jellyfin server so I can still stream music, and just not deal with subscriptions.

And actually, most of the time I buy records that come with digital downloads anyway. Time to rethink my Tidal subscription.

What is the benefit of closing Studios? Why not sell them?

Yes, this is in relation to the closing of Tango Gameworks and Arcane Austin. Is there some immediate monetary benefit behind it that I have no idea about? Is it so they can keep the IPs and not have to deal with the developers? Are the Studios too expensive for anyone to buy? I honestly don't understand how these executives...

RGB3x3 ,

Also IP rights. They buy the studio (or the publisher, with the studio beneath it) and then they own everything they make. So they can do what they want with that IP, which is typically nothing but prevent others from doing anything with it.

RGB3x3 ,

Good God, he has some of the most cringey clickbait thumbnails I've ever seen.

And just watching the first 5 minutes of the Steven Crowder episode, he's for sure not someone the Joe Rogan crowd would be interested in watching.

RGB3x3 ,

That's just paying extra to do the work for them!

What am I if I crave familiarity, routine, AND novelty and new experiences?

    RGB3x3 ,

Fuck me, they announced the first switch in 2015?

That thing was underpowered when it came out, let alone now. They could likely grab a bunch of sales by coming out with a higher-powered system alongside a cheaper version, because many people would like to play games at higher than 25 fps.

    RGB3x3 , (edited )

Because Tears of the Kingdom felt like it was running at 24 fps and 720p, with even further framerate drops, making it feel unplayable.

So it's become difficult just to actually play games on it. The games have surpassed the ability of the hardware.

    RGB3x3 ,

I've been thinking the exact same thing. But then I think, "I need to be able to install apps like proton mail, my bank app, and Signal. But I NEED a web browser because I do a lot of personal business-related things on my phone. Well, now I'm back at just having a smartphone."

I don't know, I need all the functionality of a smartphone, but I want some kind of physical control to keep me off it until I actually need it for something. Mostly something that makes using it just difficult enough that it's not worth using only because of boredom. And software controls are just too easy to turn off.
