The list of supported phones is limited to pixel and samsung smartphones but you should be able to sideload from apkmirror and get it to run with some limitations depending on your phone hardware.
Supported on phones running Android 13 or later.
Samsung Galaxy S23, S23FE, S23+, S23 Ultra
Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra
Google Pixel 7, 7a, 7 Pro, 8, 8 Pro
How did you install the split APK? It works fine and can record 720p and 4K at 24, 25 and 30fps on my realme 11 pro. Your S22 Ultra should be much more powerful in comparison.
The general populace at large? The amount of ads getting plastered and blasted makes me cringe when I see the non-premium YouTube app. I use adblock and also have premium courtesy of YT music subscription so I'm immune for the most part.
But, non-techy people do not know addblock is an option and also prefer not paying for subscription.
The catch? This is a China release. You get 1 years of standard and 3 years of extended warranty. The global variant would be unlikely to offer this at all.
Oppo has now announced global variants of both smartphones, but with radically different specifications. For starters, the cameras on the Reno12 Pro is radically different from the vanilla Reno12. Plus, both phones use a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC instead of the Dimensity 8250 (Reno12) and Dimensity 9200+ (Reno12 Pro).
I don't know what it is with global variants getting worse specs compared to Chinese versions. The other two dimensity SOCs would've made these smartphones much better. 7300 is midrange at best.
As mentioned earlier, the Oppo Reno12 Pro and Reno12 come with a MediaTek SoC. Oppo calls it the Dimensity 7300 Energy, which comes with the company's Trinity Engine. It uses the 'power of AI' to dynamically allocate resources to apps.
Hmm...
Lastly, the Oppo Reno12 Pro and Reno12 come with a 5,000 mAh that supports 80 Watt SuperVOOC fast charging with a proprietary charger. USB-PD peripherals can charge the smartphone at up to 55 Watts.
I have a realme smartphone with under display fingerprint sensor. I had last done setup in December for fingerprint and face unlock. It works fine without issues even now. Like the article mentioned it depends on the manufacturer and the hardware tuning. Pixels are known to have frequent issues to warrant this change.
Should it arrive to that they can still seize your devices and also force you to unlock your devices biometrics or patterns/passwords regardless. I wouldn't trust law enforcements in this regard.
My experience differs. I found optical in display fingerprint to be quite reliable. It even happens to work with slightly wet hands. The room being too dark or bright has also never been an issue since my finger covers the sensor completely.
I guess it depends on the quality of sensor used by the manufacter. Pixel phones are known to have issues.
Although Lemmy's userbase is quite large,it still is small enough that I do often see the same people in comment sections. It feels though, that I should recognise more names, because I can only remember around 5 individual ones.
The profile pictures are super tiny and I only sometimes read the names. So, for the most part I only check the post/comment and decide on a vote or comment action.
So I noticed that when you close an app, most apps, they never actually quit. Is this a new behavior? Or am I missing a setting to terminate, completely, an app when I actually close it without using Force Stop on everything.
In android 14 most apps background apps are frozen in memory. Just because you see a force stop button doesn't mean its actually doing any work or consuming batttery.
Android does memory and battery management on its own. You also get some options to further restrict apps should you desire but that may break some apps.
AI is a buzzword at this point. I wouldn't read too much into it. Everything that's been called AI has been in existence way before the general people even new the A in AI.
GPU drivers especially those on mediatek are a mess. My dimensity 7050 smartphone is running on Rp32 GPU driver version. Which makes it not vulnerable because it runs on an older driver version!
The affected driver versions are Bifrost and Valhall drivers from r34p0 through r40p0 for Bifrost and Valhall gpus
I get that there won't be any security updates. So any problem found can be exploited. But how high is the chance for problems for an average user if you say, only browse some safe websites? If you have a pc you don't really care much about, without any personal information? It feels like the danger is more theoretical than...
Can you elaborate more about this "harmless history stealing" bit and how did you find it? Also, was the OS outdated in your case?
Like a sane person I use a system wide adblocker (Adguard) and unlock-origin in firefox. I also disable 3rd party iframes by default to reduce the crap being loaded by default on all my devices.
