What's in your cup this week?
Hello out there, fellow caffeinated Lemmings!...

Seriously, where do I go?
I live in an affluent part of South Carolina. It’s become completely overrun with Trump assholes and degenerates. I don’t know how much longer I can take it. Where can we go?...
What's the most stupid trend (or fad) you participated in yourself?
Am I the only one preferring low quality media over high quality one?
I have a very slow Internet connection (5 Mbps down, and even less for upload). Given that, I always download movies at 720p, since they have low file size, which means I can download them more quickly. Also, I don't notice much of a difference between 1080p and 720p. As for 4K, because I don't have a screen that can display 4K,...

TIL about Roko's Basilisk, a thought experiment considered by some to be an "information hazard" - a concept or idea that can cause you harm by you simply knowing/understanding it ( en.wikipedia.org )
Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment which states that an otherwise benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI) in the future would be incentivized to create a virtual reality simulation to torture anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to...
Who is a fictional character that is loved you find either overrated or you don't get the appeal ?
Photographers Push Back on Facebook's 'Made with AI' Labels Triggered by Adobe Metadata. Do you agree “‘AI was used in this image’ is completely different than ‘Made with AI’”? ( lemmings.world )

I lost four spokes on my morning commute when the chain decided to jump off the big cog. Of course I don't have a spoke protector. (Who needs a dork disc? Bad things won't happen if you keep your bike maintained. /s) I was lucky to skid to a stop rather than crash when the rear wheel locked up....
Has Elon Musk made any sexist remarks?
I know this may seem trivial to many, but I have not found any remarks by Elon Musk that are definitively sexist (including transphobic, homophobic, misogynistic, etc.)....
EU Council has withdrawn the vote on Chat Control ( stackdiary.com )
Moritz Körner, Member of the European Parliament, disclosed the decision on Twitter. Swedish publisher SVG said, “The question was removed at the last moment from Thursday’s ambassadorial meeting in Brussels”.

Help with removing freehub ( i.imgur.com )
Long story short: completely stripper the hex slot on the back of the freehub body while trying to remove it. It’s incredibly tight. Can I just take a pipe wrench to it from the front or do the teeth seen here on the new part lock with the wheel hub making it impossible to turn?
Do you recognise any usernames on Lemmy?
Although Lemmy's userbase is quite large,it still is small enough that I do often see the same people in comment sections. It feels though, that I should recognise more names, because I can only remember around 5 individual ones.
If you don't work IT, retail, or food service what do you do for work?
Sometimes on Lemmy these seem like the only jobs that actually exist, but I'm sure there's a lot of people here with different and unusual lines of work.
YouTube is experimenting with Notes, a crowdsourced feature that lets users add context to videos ( techcrunch.com )

Blew my freehub muscling up a steep incline. This is why I ride with half of my workshop in my backpack. Had zip ties packed up specifically incase of this happening....
Is it just me or do Lemmy communities tend to skew left wing? Why might this be?
I can't say I've been using Lemmy for long, but from the get-go it seems that the communities, memes, opinions that get upvoted seem to reflect left-wing ideas....
SponsorBlock (and DeArrow): "YouTube is currently experimenting with server-si…" - Fosstodon ( fosstodon.org )
YouTube is currently experimenting with server-side ad injection. This means that the ad is being added directly into the video stream....

Are business cards still a thing?
Do people still hand out physical business cards at events or is it all digital now?...

If human skin was sometimes completely patterned (eg. spots, stripes, etc.), what pattern (if any) would you want to have?
Is there any significance to people using emojis that match their skin tone?
I'm asking because as a light-skinned male, I always use the standard Simpsons yellow. I don't really see other light-skinned people using an emoji that matches their skin tone, but often do see people of color use them. Maybe white people don't naturally realize a need to be explicit with emoji skin-tone or perhaps it's seen as...
