Next time you listen to it, imagine the situation that is being presented. The singer said that all the words are literally what the guy at the department store was saying without knowing who Mark Knopfler (the singer) was. Add in the video (in a time when computer graphics were very primitive) and it's really one of those great stories.

TIL about Roko's Basilisk, a thought experiment considered by some to be an "information hazard" - a concept or idea that can cause you harm by you simply knowing/understanding it ( en.wikipedia.org )

Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment which states that an otherwise benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI) in the future would be incentivized to create a virtual reality simulation to torture anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to...

It was better when Frank Herbert decided it in Destination: Void

Are you saying you don't like 50 different items of the same object with the Rock's head?

The ridiculous items need to be moderated out for sure.

I hope they have enough sense to keep a handful of sunflower seeds in their pockets.

Does the USA have any open market cellular options that are legitimate pay-as-you-go and only for what you use options like Europe yet?

I've lived under a rock for 10 years. I did Metro ages ago while most were still on contracts. Surely we've reached true capitalist open market freedom by now. Is it still total closed market, noncompetitive, privateering corruption?

Ting

I've used it for years. I'm never changing.

IDK, I haven't had a need to do that. But it's a pay for what you use type of bill. Their support is real people, last time I used it was very pleasant. They might have something in their FAQ.

One of my grandmothers told me that if you know how you came from her, even if you only have a drop of her blood left in you

You are Lakota.

I think that applies for all the Native People of the Americas.

Could be a lot worse but yeah it is often very disappointing.

my work quit on AirWatch and jfc was that a beautiful day. I have been in IT since 1997 and I have never seen a worse UI than that POS

I imagine he will be an old and gray man and someone will ask him his opinion and it will probably be like

I have a very similar problem but in my case the coworker is my boss. I have basically had to tell him he is wrong and that nothing he is going to say to me is going to change my mind and that I want no more of that conversation, I then change it to something work related. Sadly this has become the new normal. Thankfully my boss is expected to retire in December so I just need to wait it out.

My coworkers tell me that I am the hero of the group for shutting the boss down in such a loud and aggressive way. But its so exhausting.

It's one rich dudes toy is how I see it. It's a good distro but once I tried to uninstall some things and it wouldn't let me and so that was the end of it for me at home. I use the server version at work for one machine.

I still had this on my clip board from earlier, when I mentioned it in another thread. One of my favorite parts of one of my favorite songs. The Dead Kennedy's Stars and Stripes of Corruption. If you have never heard it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=983DwAOCXRI

But what can just one of us do
Against all that money and power trying to crush us into roaches?
We won't destroy society in a day
Until we change ourselves first from the inside out

We can start by not lying so much and treating other people like dirt
It's so easy not to base our lives on how much we can scam
And you know it feels good to lift that monkey off our back

If you don't know the song, its chalk full of cynicism and angst. But it ends with a good message. The fast beat and quick rythmic delivery of the lyrics with the beautiful surf guitar...

    If we don't try
    If we just lie
If we can't find a way
    To do better than this
    Who will?

Editables from the cannabis dispensary. Just feels wrong paying so much for a few pieces of candy.

    thisbenzingring ,

discussions like this always bring me back to the Dead Kennedy's song Stars and Stripes of Corruption

Not only is the music one of their greatest, but the lyrics are Jello Biafra's best. If you have never heard it, imagine surf guitar, fast pace and a poet that can unleash lyrics at bullet speeds while staying in tone and driving the beat. The end of their career finale and IMO their magnum opus. The lyrics are just so good. Here is one part that I really think about alot...

The Area X series (Southern Reach Trilogy) is fucked up!

Ok let me give you a couple reasons if you haven't read it

There's this place, and it seems to be growing that has a weird effect on reality and the longer you stay there the stronger the effect. It centers around a lighthouse in a rural area. The government runs experiments but it's hush hush and nobody knows anything about it. BTW it's getting bigger.

People that leave the area x, might be doppelganger or so changed, it's the same to outside observation.

It's seriously a really good stuff and absolutely fucked up

    thisbenzingring ,

did you read the second book? Control goes into that storage room and he realizes that there isn't a storage room there and then he realizes its the scientist is in in the wall and maybe its the doppelganger hiding there and its trying to close the room on him essentially eating him! That part is seriously fucked up. And then WTF happens to Control when he gets to the bottom of the lighthouse stairs? My wife thinks he turns into one of the white rabbits.

    thisbenzingring ,

The film is a fun but I liked the books a little better. Both are hard to follow but the movie was even more so for me.

    thisbenzingring ,

Eh, I knew it when I bought it. I didn't know better and signed up. I wasn't tricked and we all started the game that first time and were told about it

    thisbenzingring ,

It wasn't added after launch. You could bypass it. Now they are changing that.

“The idea of Putin being not being informed and not approving killing Navalny is ridiculous,”

Oh .... thanks for clearing that up

Red Dead is a work of art. It's just shameful that Rockstar has neglected it.

Starfield is such a piece of shit, it actually gets me upset thinking about how bad of an experience it was. I finished it just so I would know how it turns over and I'm still angry about it. Thankfully I waited until it was less than $50

    thisbenzingring ,

It's always a sad thing to hear but 94 and leaving a mark that puts him up there with the greatest minds of all time. Bravo, sir. Bravo!

    thisbenzingring ,

I love Jarvis, he is such an interesting character. The song Fat Children is a great from that album.

But This is Hardcore was a peak 90's moment. The world of my memories will always find that time to be my salad days. I listened to that album a lot after a breakup with my first love and it was my therapy whenever I was depressed.

Oh for fuck sake! This is crazy old fashioned bullshit right here.
