How is it possible, that Signal still only provides a .deb package and no .rpm, or even better AppImage or Flatpak? There is an unofficial Flatpak but is it secure?

There's a funny vid by DerBauer exposing the completely useless AI branding at Computex. There were PC cases with AI branding. Their explanation was something along the lines of 'you can put a PC in here that runs AI processing".
Actually, really liked the Apple Intelligence announcement. It must be a very exciting time at Apple as they layer AI on top of the entire OS. A few of the major themes....
I mean don't get me wrong, these things are a huge QoL improvement. It's just that they should be embarrassed to be lacking such basic functionality on such insanely expensive devices. And people should be embarrassed to carry them around. There are still tons of basic features missing.
The long-awaited day is here: Apple has announced that its Messages app will support RCS in iOS 18. The move comes after years of taunting, cajoling, and finally, some regulatory scrutiny from the EU....
Honestly that will be the least of your concerns. I will be very surprised if it's anything more than basic interoperability. Photos and videos and such. Probably not even group text. Apple will comply maliciously just like they are with app stores. You'll have to drag them kicking and screaming.
You use a reverse proxy. Configure your DNS (GoDaddy in this case) to forward requests to your domain to your WAN IP. Set up port forwarding on your router to send HTTPS requests to your server, then the reverse proxy processes the request and directs it to the proper container.
This is honestly the most confusing and complicated part of self-hosting.
It's also all made very simple using Yunohost.
Also please move away from GoDaddy as soon as possible. Popular alternatives would be NameCheap or Porkbun.
If Pixelfed actually siloed itself into its own network it would make a lot of sense. As is, it's chock full of pictures and text from Mastodon and other federated platforms that are not remotely artistic in nature.
The whole idea of IG, in it's infancy, before being taken blatantly and completely off the rails by Meta, was to have photographers and artists and beautiful content.
On top of that, it's just a copy-paste of IG, including all the dumb shit.
And on top of all of that, it lacks any of the copyright and AI protections that Cara is squarely aimed at.
Apple network is not super reliable either. I've seen videos of people using them in crowded cities and you'll only ever get a ping every couple of hours.

It's a nightmare scenario for Microsoft. The headlining feature of its new Copilot+ PC initiative, which is supposed to drive millions of PC sales over the next couple of years, is under significant fire for being what many say is a major breach of privacy and security on Windows. That feature in question is Windows Recall, a...
Twitter definitely lost a ton of users and tons continue to leave.
Define "tons"? As a percentage, it is miniscule, and it remains the place where politicians, companies and other entities make public announcements. It's also, for some reason, the only platform supported for customer support from various companies.
to the title’s implication that such trust can be earned: it kinda can’t. That’s basically the point of really good passwords and secrets
Most people use and recommend encrypted password managers on remote servers. Which is fine, so long as the encryption is open source and audited and the company has a good and long positive reputation.
LOL put the debate textbooks down and use your noggin. I'm asking you to back up your statements. In this case it would be fairly easy to prove a negative if you actually had any. If you don't have any evidence then don't say it.
We need to do something against this. The EU plans to apply a law for a chat control in the territory. The approval say that all the chats and the emails would be send to the government to do AI scanning to in fact “find the children abuses”, even when using apps with end-to-end encryption (the EU will ask the services to...
This is beyond stupid. Criminals will continue using encryption. Citizens are mandated to forfeit any semblance of privacy. This is tyranny in it's plainest form.
