It's a nightmare scenario for Microsoft. The headlining feature of its new Copilot+ PC initiative, which is supposed to drive millions of PC sales over the next couple of years, is under significant fire for being what many say is a major breach of privacy and security on Windows. That feature in question is Windows Recall, a...
As expected, there is no evidence that this is "the straw that broke the camel's back". Don't waste your time reading this article.
MS has been doing this kind of shit for decades and their market share has never changed significantly.
Was it stupid? Yeah. Are people upset? Sure. Is anyone going to do anything about it? No, because the vast majority don't care or they would have stopped using it a long time ago.
Twitter is a great example of the exact opposite being true. Are people upset? Absolutely. Did they leave the platform? Nope. Maybe a small percentage.
Home Assistant is incredibly powerful but also incredibly complicated.
After about a year and several hundred dollars spent on hardware I had to give up. I just can't continue to dedicate so much time to something that is supposed to help me do the opposite.
I dunno if this is within your wheelhouse but what I'd really like to see is a manual weighting by community.
So, for example, if you're mildly interested in Linux, you can give those communities a 3/10 weight and that way you'd only see the most popular content rather than having it dominate your entire feed.
And then a gaming community 10/10 weight so you'd see every single post.
Maybe you can combine the 2 and just make the automatic "for you" weighting visible and manually adjustable.

I know that. I think the problem is, specifically as it pertains to Threads, is that "alternative frontend" can mean different things. Moshidon is an "alternative frontend" for Mastodon. The backend is all the same. So if I were to be advertising this project, I would be making sure to make that distinction somehow. Probably by including "private" somewhere in the title.
Regardless, does this allow you to generate a personal feed or is it just supposed to be a redirect like Nitter?
Greenpeace remains adamant, however. “There are specific problems with Golden Rice,” said Wilhelmina Pelegrina, head of Greenpeace Philippines, last week. “Farmers who brought this case with us – along with local scientists – currently grow different varieties of rice, including high-value seeds they have worked with for generations and have control over. They’re rightly concerned that if their organic or heirloom varieties get mixed up with patented, genetically engineered rice, that could sabotage their certifications, reducing their market appeal and ultimately threatening their livelihoods.”
Pelegrina added that relying on a single-crop system to alleviate malnutrition reduced resilience and increased vulnerability to climate impacts – a serious problem in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries. “If things don’t work out, it’s the farmer and the consumers who pick up the tab.”
There are also more practical, tried-and-tested solutions to tackle vitamin-A deficiency such as food supplementation programmes and supporting people to grow a range of crops including those rich in vitamin A, she claimed. “That should be where attention and investment is focused.”
If you want to game, my advice would be not to bother with Nvidia GPUs. Even the ones that advertise support for it often have lots of weird issues. In my case, this includes Bazzite.
Tap to pay can be set up either through a digital wallet app or through the phone’s settings, depending on the device. On Android, for example, a user would open the Google Wallet app
I am currently using an old laptop (circa 2015) with a 250GB SSD in it, and 4GB of RAM. It runs Fedora 39 Server, and only hosts a Jellyfin instance through Docker right now (though I want to use Nextcloud later too). There is only 15GB of storage left on it, and the CPU is constantly overloaded (due to forced transcoding). I...
My recommendation would be building a Jonsbo NAS. They're relatively affordable. You probably also want a mobile CPU for better efficiency. I don't recommend ARM as it will greatly limit the variety of software you can run on it. Erying and CWWK/Topton make ITX mobos with mobile CPUs. These are Chinese brands but I don't really see anyone else making them.
The cheapest and easiest thing to do would be to just use an old standard desktop computer case that can hold a few HDDs.

Short version of this interview is that nothing is changing, other than they're going to be asking a flat fee "$5-20" for the app, rather than relying on donations. All donation platforms have been closed. However, if you choose not to, as Louis says "that's between you and your God"....
Open source has a long history of commercial backing. Ever heard of a little project called NextCloud? Matrix? Nothing changes. It all works the same way, because it's still AGPL license.
