Agreed. I’d also totally vote for The Derek Zoolander School for Kids Who Can't Read Good and Who Wanna Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too.

Even Apple finally admits that 8GB RAM isn't enough ( www.xda-developers.com )

There were a number of exciting announcements from Apple at WWDC 2024, from macOS Sequoia to Apple Intelligence. However, a subtle addition to Xcode 16 — the development environment for Apple platforms, like iOS and macOS — is a feature called Predictive Code Completion. Unfortunately, if you bought into Apple's claim that...

disguy_ovahea ,

I think you mean gigabytes, not gigabits.

8 Gb = 1 GB

disguy_ovahea ,

That’s true. Data transmission is usually measured in bits, not bytes. Gigabit Ethernet can only transmit a maximum of ~128 MB/s.

disguy_ovahea ,

That all depends on how much work they want to put into troubleshooting it for her. I got my mom a Mac Mini when her PC needed to be replaced. It’s way less responsibility on my part. I mostly just answer the occasional how-to.

I love the etymology of the word Cajun. They’re Louisiana Acadians saying Acadian with a southern accent.

disguy_ovahea ,

You’re assuming that everyone would be equally rich.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

Since the term “rich” is relative, I assume the question is in relation to other nations.

If it’s a capitalist nation, I don’t think it would last long. Low incentive to work, coupled with strong international purchasing power, would allow those who spend to drive down their net worth while those who invest increase it. It wouldn’t take more than a few years to begin a notable separation of classes.

disguy_ovahea ,

Internationally. The entire nation can be wealthy in relation to other nations, but not necessarily equally.

disguy_ovahea ,

John Bobbitt somehow turned that into a low-quality porn career.

Options for non-smart TV in UK 2024?

I am considering replacing my old 50" 1080p TV which I use with (external) Chromecast and Roku. I would like a 4K display 60" or greater but I really, really don't want any smart features. I am aware that I could purchase a commercial display to achieve this and that's my fallback option. Can anyone here make any useful...

disguy_ovahea ,

Look for commercial televisions for hospitality or signage. They have the added benefit of handling long uptime with low failure rates and multiple inputs.

Ice Ice Baby has a pickup in the phrase that isn’t in Under Pressure. It’s an easy way to know what’s coming. It’s how Vanilla Ice won against Queen’s copyright infringement lawsuit.

disguy_ovahea ,

I remember hearing the opposite a long time ago. Thanks for the correction!

It’s a shitty rip off from a musical standpoint. I’m glad he has to pay.

disguy_ovahea ,

Some of the more advanced color correction tools can drastically change an image. There’s a lot of gray in that line as well.

disguy_ovahea ,

An adulterer who lied about it, and stole money to pay someone else to lie about it.

It’s a threefer.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

I didn’t list that because it’s unconfirmed. It was just part of Pecker’s testimony regarding the doorman. If it’s true, then you’re right, that’s a fourth commandment.

disguy_ovahea ,

I just read through the linked conversation. I’m sorry, but it’s been clearly decided by groupthink that you are not allowed to learn anything or form new opinions. I hope you understand their decision and its effective permanence on your growth.

Israel Has “Systematically Violated” Laws Regarding Civilian Harm, UN Finds ( truthout.org )

Israeli forces have demonstrated a pattern of systematically targeting densely populated civilian areas across hundreds of attacks in Gaza that likely violate international wartime laws, the office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) found in a report released Wednesday....

His border policy is certainly more progressive than Trump’s. Trump banned Muslims and “suspected Muslims,” while deporting parents of immigrants and detaining their children to be sexually and physically abused. The legal cases from Title 42 are in the tens of thousands now.

Biden left the border open, while pressing Congress for immigration reform, until sanctuary cities could no longer meet housing needs before restricting entry again. There’s not much else he can do when we have homeless migrants and no federal funding to supplement the overextended states with sanctuary cities.

In all fairness, the psychology of addictive medicine is pretty sound. The underfunded bureaucratic implementation found in social services is a shadow of what psychologists recommend. You’re more likely to find help in local support groups or expensive rehabilitative retreats than in state-mandated rehabilitation centers.

disguy_ovahea ,

I think we have an obligation to provide Iron Dome defensive munitions as long as there is threat of attack on Israel. Despite common opinion, there are plenty of innocent Israelis that are not behind Netanyahu or Zionism that deserve to live without being bombed, just like Palestinians.

Edit: Those of you that paint all Israelis with one brush are no better than Netanyahu labeling all Palestinians as Hamas. Just sayin.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

Ask yourself. Were you an American citizen when when Trump enabled the sexual abuse of tens of thousands of immigrant children, or currently while Biden supports the Israeli genocide? Has your nation’s government ever acted in hostility against your interests? Are you complicit? Do you deserve protection from bombings?

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

What power do Israelis have in uninstalling Netanyahu? They’re protesting in the tens of thousands to remove him. It’s doing nothing. He was elected prior to Oct. 7 and the subsequent genocidal response. My point is, the actions of a government do not represent the entirety of its people.

Netanyahu has a favorability of 32% in Israel.

Trump is currently polling at 42% in the US.

disguy_ovahea ,

It doesn’t matter if you look to the left or the right. There’s always a sickness that allows people to justify killing. It’s loathsome.

disguy_ovahea ,

I completely agree that the US should defend Palestinians, as well as assist in their reconstruction needs. I was talking about amending munitions agreements. In that respect, I think the US should exclusively provide Iron Dome defensive munitions to Israel. They deserve no support in attacking other nations.

Kremlin bots spam internet with fake celebrity quotes against Ukraine ( kyivindependent.com )

Russian bots with a Kremlin disinformation network published 120,000 fake anti-Ukraine quotes falsely attributed to celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston and Scarlett Johansson, in one day, the independent Russian media outlet Agentsvo reported June 15....

disguy_ovahea ,

They haven’t committed a crime posting on privately owned social media sites. The celebrity first needs to file a complaint.

disguy_ovahea ,

And neither one can stop a government agency of under 100 people, who live in a country that can't make a CPU over 8 bits, from shit posting on the internet? Not fucking possible.

How do you expect the FBI stops people from creating fake accounts and sharing false information? Those are not crimes. Fraudulent misrepresentation is a crime, but the misrepresented person first needs to report it.

TikTok has briefly suspended the account of Hey Jane, a prominent telemedicine abortion service, four times without explanation. Instagram has suspended Mayday Health, a nonprofit that provides information about abortion pill access, without explanation as well. And the search engine Bing has erroneously flagged the website for Aid Access, a major seller of abortion pills online, as unsafe.

Seems like someone is paying a lot of money to suppress access to information. Anyone have insight as to how to find out who specifically?

disguy_ovahea ,

I don’t just want AI news to fail, I want it to take the web-scraping trending post news bots down with it.

Bring investigative journalists back to news media.

There was also a program that would open the CD-ROM drive and play a raspberry noise at random intervals. It was a fun prank to set it to run at login.

iPhone XR & XS were released 6 years ago. That’s solid support longevity.

It makes sense that Apple Intelligence only works on current and next-gen hardware. The A17 Pro chip has a 16-core Neural Engine performing at 35 TOPS, twice that of the A16 Bionic’s 17 TOPS.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_A17

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

That’s incorrect. M-Series chips are used in Macs and iPads. iPhone uses A-Seres.

The iPhone 15 runs an A16 Bionic chip, and the iPhone 15 Pro runs an A17 Pro chip, as I wrote in my above comparison.

https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/?modelList=iphone-15-pro,iphone-15

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

That would make sense if it only ran on M1 Macs with 8 GB of UM.

I’ve been meaning to ask, has anyone ever told you your F is a tad sharp for equal temperament? I’m not suggesting you change. I think your clean beat frequency makes you pretty cool just the way you are.

I went to Affinity Photo and Illustrator years ago, and I’m a fan. One time purchase, easy to use, and full tutorials from the creators on Vimeo. Only downside is that it’s only available on Apple devices. Turns out it’s available on Windows now too.

disguy_ovahea ,

It’s that exact reason that the US right wing continues to liken Oct. 7 to 9/11. They believe that disproportionate retaliation is somehow justice.

If Trump wins in November, you can be sure Israel will bomb and pave every last bit of Palestinian territory.

disguy_ovahea ,

That’s probably because your president is committing mass genocide of Ukrainians by abducting 700,000 of their children to be raised as Russians.

I completely agree. Not all people are as open minded. I know an Israeli-American with dual citizenship that protested Netanyahu at NYU. People are absolutely not defined by their government. Russian elections are clearly rigged, so it’s even less likely she’s in favor of Putin. I wouldn’t criticize her unless she personally spoke in support of his actions. Unfortunately, I know enough people to be aware that it’s just not how everyone operates.

disguy_ovahea ,

Don’t you find it hypocritical to criticize support of Israel for committing genocide, while advocating support of China who is committing genocide?

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

They’ve been doing this for months. It began with Indians, then they moved on to Cubans, now Africans. They say that those enlisted won’t see the front lines, and offer high wages to be paid out monthly. Then they stick them on the front lines so they don’t last long enough to be paid.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

It completely depends on their implementation. Apple released Local Snapshots for OSX with Time Machine in 2007. Granted, they’re created hourly rather than every few minutes, but there hasn’t been a vulnerability or exploit as a result of the feature.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/102154

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

I assumed the Copilot integration was elective. The article states it’s not on by default.

Otherwise it’s the same. Local backups through Time Machine can be accessed a la carte through a screenshot-based GUI, so the screenshots are part of the Local Snapshots stored on your local drive. They’re password protected and decrypted at user login.

disguy_ovahea , (edited )

Have you used it with an application? You can look at all revisions made to a document in Pages, a spreadsheet in Numbers, etc. It makes Local Snapshots of foreground applications.

I used to get bad sinus infections from Sudafed. It took me years to figure it out. Apparently it causes inflammation that was obstructing the natural flow of my sinus passages, and the stagnation resulted in frequent infections. Just sharing in case anyone else is struggling with the same.

disguy_ovahea ,

No joke! Looks like he was fighting a crosswind on the approach no less.

Over the last 15 years, scientists have updated the theorized appearance of thousands of species of dinosaurs to have feathers. Most of these species are in the theropod family. You’ll be seeing updates in natural history museums as time goes on.

https://www.amnh.org/exhibitions/dinosaurs-among-us/feathers

There’s also the chicken’s talons to consider. Birds with similar claws are called raptors due to their similarity in appearance to the dinosaur. This does not mean they are direct descendants, however, but that they have a genealogically shared ancestor.
