If you wany a rural setting you're probably fucked.

If you're looking for a SC kind of 'city' I would suggest perhaps Colorado, or something like Bend Oregon, or Spokane Washington. More isolated cities without large populations and also surrounded by that rural character.

...The Portland State Univerity's Library?

The safest possible place with the least possible chance to reach a critical audience for this shit.

Dev of cancelled Life By You game shares some information, including just two weeks notice of cancellation after being given the thumbs-up a few weeks prior ( www.linkedin.com )

I cannot share specific numbers, but I can say that we had an internal metric we were aiming for that had been approved, and that we exceeded that number by a significant portion. We also got a thumbs up a few weeks before launch.

They seemed great up until around that time in 2016 they went public.

Before that you had all the Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron games, Cities Skylines they helped make, not to mention Pillars of Eternity eoth Obsidian. Up through 2015 they were great.

One of my good friends was raised Republican and actually worked for the California Republican Party until he finally got so fed up with their shit he finally rejected politics overall and started homesteading. (I.e. when he broke ties with his freakshow parents.)

From his time there he would describe the insane shit he experienced. Like the local party leader had an unwritten rule for all meetings: the water pitcher on his table always had to be the most full out of anyone else in the room.

The GOP is weird man.

Some folk identify the .ml (or the pronouns of hexbear users) and work backwards from there.

Simply: the bad faith was having .ml there in the name. I'll take him for his word and bet that's what was meant.

*edit
And it isn't like I haven't seen wingnuts go ".world eh? More like .nazi!" as well. It is just that whole general vibe with the people who all up and comment about blocking shit.

Lemmy.ml tankie censorship problem

I feel like we need to talk about Lemmy's massive tankie censorship problem. A lot of popular lemmy communities are hosted on lemmy.ml. It's been well known for a while that the admins/mods of that instance have, let's say, rather extremist and onesided political views. In short, they're what's colloquially referred to as...

ZombiFrancis ,

Over the past year on Lemmy I have witnessed a constant fight between people on hexbear, lemmygrad, and ml and people on communuties like tankiejerk, meanwhileongrad, and the like.

Both appear to constantly brigade and overmoderate their respective areas of control. Since my instance: sh.itjustworks, is some combination of defederated to hexbear and lemmygrad, I mostly just see threads like these complaining about tankies. I only assume the effort is being matched by those instances I don't see to warrant this problem being so persistent.

So to me there's so much active bad faith behavior between the camps I assume they all just have a paranoid view of the fediverse and are mostly just perpetuating a cycle of bad faith. Maybe that relationship is terminal if just people can't handle each other.

ZombiFrancis ,

The fundamental source of conflict is that developers of Lemmy, who are also admins of .ml, describe themselves as marxist-leninist. Their very allowed existence is a conundrum for some, regardless of what they do.

So there is absolutely interest in the elimination of instances like .ml from the Fediverse, especially as things like Meta's Threads moves in to centralize communities and standardize discussioms so everything can start aligning with thr valuation of their investment.

ZombiFrancis ,

So you say uou've heard complaints about Lemmy devs, who run the instance in question here, for four years.

That is a direct illustration of what I mean: from the start of Lemmy there's been complaints of the devs.

As the Fediverse becomes bigger, this type of stuff isn't going to be wanted by any entity especially not ones owned by Meta.

ZombiFrancis ,

At first I was all, "Oh fuck this nonsense here."

Now I just want to see this crazy kid fly.

ZombiFrancis ,

This is the faction a lot of our elected leaders think should be 'strong'.

ZombiFrancis ,

So fucked it is even happening but at least we should get a good picture over which members of Congress are devotees to a foreign power so we can never vote for them again.

ZombiFrancis ,

The United States and Israel are probably the two entities least able to criticize China's response to Islamist terrorist attacks.

Everyone else? Uh sure, go nuts.

ZombiFrancis ,

See back then and for centuries after even: the default mentality for existing was not as zero-sum as it is today.

Resources and generally speaking: 'the world' was seen as expansive and functionally infinite. I.e.: non-zero-sum. One's acquisition of resources did not inherently detract from another's resource. Societies would just exile people and consider them dead and gone into the ether.

So a warlord could easily let some shit like this slide. No fight, free castle.

ZombiFrancis ,

We could still have this thinking today.

The scarcity of resources is largely one of distribution and access: not production or availability. There are more than enough resources. We destroy clothes and food for going unsold. People go homeless and hungry for lack of money or employment, not a lack of shelter or food. Famines are policy decisions.

Only in the immediacy of natural disaster scenarios where infrastructure itself breaks down are we really faced with the kind of reality where there isn't wasted excess.

If you're interested I suggest an easy but short read: Operation Manual For Spaceship Earth by Buckminster Fuller. It is old as hell but it does a good job of portraying how such a mindset could work for modern civilization.

ZombiFrancis ,

Regardless of the technicalities and nuances in the reporting: this is a good thing.

ZombiFrancis ,

Or: dose them both the fuck up. Let's see the both of them up there rolling like the old lady from Requiem for a Dream.

Hell I just mix strong black coffee with hot chocolate and add half and half or whipping cream for added decadence.

Bulk, cheapest grocery outlet store coffee and any hot chocolate that isn't nestle because fuck nestle.

That doesn't seem like a great construction method. These seem difficult to maintain which imperils how long thoae awnings and cables will last.

But still a green roof strategy on a more structurally sound awning though? I would be down with that.

Crazy enough I am actually familiar with the story from a college class that seminared on the evolution of non-reproductive sex. One group talked about interspecies intercourse with various other stories and mythologies where characters transform into animals and fuck, and used Bear as a modern example.

I remember it because it was the more audacious presentation until the guy after me argued dinosaurs were gay and physically challenged disagreement.

ZombiFrancis ,

If I remember the argument: homosexual behavior can be identified in both species descended from dinosaurs as well as in species that appear to have evolved significantly separately from them, indicating if homosexuality is an inheritable trait then dinosaurs were a gay common ancestor.

I can't quite remember the link they made but I remember I found the argument more valid for obligate nonreproductive members of a species evolving but not necessary homosexuality in and of itself.

Alex Jones would've liked that class to be honest.

ZombiFrancis ,

That's a heavy sentence. I am curious if she is the most sympathetic case or what are the situations with those other 12 who appear to have received lesser sentences?

The court also announced sentences of between four and 14 years for 12 other participants in the demonstration for the same crimes.

ZombiFrancis ,

Being the leader of the nation that defeated the Nazis gets you a lot of credit. Moreso when Nazis start cropping up again.

I think these days his iconography tends to just trigger those who would ultimately roll with fascism over communism.

The orientation of the mug handle to the desk and chair for the picture bothers me regardless.

ZombiFrancis ,

Left side of desk for mug then. No reason to cross all that paperwork with a full mug.

That mug was posed, dare I say it.

ZombiFrancis ,

It has been 15+ years since I have drywalled but that looks absolutely fine. Yeah it's a clear seam but it's straight and along an edge. Paint and the general noise of decorations and wall hangings will make it disappear just fine.

Don't mind me just mowing my roof. ( lemmy.world )

Zero percent chance any of it, at the very least the septic, could be permitted after the fact. It is nice Bo is at least disclosing it has an unpermitted on-site septic system, but a bootleg OSS is more expensive than no OSS at all.

Human history is not really a constant war, but that is how Americans have been taught history: as a sequence of wars.

What's relatively new are the concept of mass conscription, economic warfare, and total war. The ability to enact war and destruction on a global and constant level is new. The brief cessations in conflict aren't peace, you're right, but it is also a newer concept that we are constantly in a forever war.
