Genocide is bad.
Oppression is bad.
Racism is bad.

Those don't seem like difficult concepts to grasp.

Every time I see these generational memes I think of this one.

How do you get people to wash their vegetables when you're at their house and you don't wanna seem rude?

So awkward, but come on it says right there on the package to wash those mushrooms or whatever it is… You’re not their mom but you don’t wanna eat feces or whatever ended up on the produce. A quick rinse is never going to be perfect but it’s better than nothing....

JoMiran ,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

I sweat the mushrooms in the microwave before I sauté. They release a ton of water, which I use on another dish's preparation (rice, pasta, kale, etc).

Everything about modern Republicans screams middle school.

what's your current linux distro?

wanting to hop into the world of linux on a dual boot method (one of my favorite games unfortunately cannot be run on linux at all, and it's a gacha. I don't want to gamble with my account being banned, so I'm keeping windows for it specifically.) this'll be my second go at it, I used Pop!_OS briefly but had some issues with...

JoMiran ,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

My first choice is Pop!_OS because my graphics cards are NVidia, but you said that you don't like their DE. My second choice is LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition). It is boring and stable and gets out of your way.

Because the end user is the product.

Apple gets a free service that would cost an insane amount of money if they were to pay API fees or build their own data centers and models...

All true.

OpenAI gets free advertising by being included in millions of Apple devices.

Also true but woefully incomplete. They also get millions of Apple devices and users to train their models at no cost. When I say you are the product, I mean that Apple sold access to you and everything you do to OpenAI in exchange for OpenAI functionality at no extra charge. I have no doubt that Apple will make a best efforts to anonymize data, but OpenAI absolutely will have deep access.

It made me think of this old Michael Keaton movie, "My Life", in which he leaves a treasure trove of video tapes to his unborn child.

All of it sounds like marketing and I have serious doubt's about their commitment to, or ability to respect privacy when one of their previous points is that they plan to integrate third party systems. So...I have doubts.

I used to replace the disk drive before handing it in. That way, for a minimal investment, I'd get to keep my data and they got a never before used drive. That's only possible if your laptop has an upgradeable. drive rather than a soldered on one.

Pirate today, buy tomorrow...unless its a AAA dumpster fire. Always pirate AAA games. The gaming experience tends to be better because pirates remove all the anti-cheat and other BS.

He is the "cool pope"... when compared the literal Nazi one before him or the sexual predator protecting one before that. They are all horrible, this one happens to be the least horrible in a long time...possibly ever. Less horrible is still horrible.

JoMiran ,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

Exactly.

JoMiran ,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

It really does. John Paul II and predecessors were the one who did most of the covering up of sexual misbehaviour, the theft of Irish children, etc, the Nazi inherited the mess, didn't know what to do with it and rage quit. The latest guy came in well after the shit had hit the fan.

I have reached a place where I genuinely don't care about anyone seeing my browser history.

FBI: "Mr. JoMiran, did you spend an hour browsing through Peggy Hill cosmic horror hentai?"

Me: "Meh. I found most of the tentacle detail work lacking and the exaggerated breast size off-putting."

JoMiran ,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

You got downvoted but you are correct. I had to re-crimp more than half of the cables in my house. Before I did, whoever worked was gimped at 100mbps.

JoMiran ,
@JoMiran@lemmy.ml avatar

I recently bought a house with Cat-5e. I noticed that my switch was registering dead ports and a lot of ports st 100mbps instead og 1gbps. It turns out that most of the cable ends were crimped incorrectly. I would suggest you check your lines with a double ended cable tester.

Due to the nature of our work, my firm has had early access to most LLMs including Bard (now Gemini). I might be short on imagination but I honestly cannot see how LLM general search implementations can ever be fixed. There is too much garbage data for any system to be able to intelligently parse and the results of our tests were laughable. Now, if you offer LLM search that is restricted to curated datasets like "The Library of Congress" or peer reviewed scientific papers, I can see the value in that. You'll probably still have to triple check your results, but at least it can get you 80% of the way there rather than sending you in the wrong direction.

EDIT: For context, our clientele are all enterprises with very large, mission critical systems. They are not the type to use some buggy trinket just because it's new and cool.

My wife and I were piss poor and getting finance degree at a third rate state college. I was paying my way with PC support. One day I spent money I didn't have to buy a Wndows NT certification book and used the university's T1 line to pirate NT 4.0 for myself and MS SQL and Oracle 7 for my wife (I also bought a CD of Red Hat Halloween).
Almost thirty years later we literally saved a presidential election and are the ones keeping significant parts of the US infrastructure from falling apart. All thanks to piracy.

Yes...but there is such a thing as a work addict. My father is in his eighties, hasn't had to work in decades, but still works like more than forty hours a week. I have no doubt that if he stopped, he'd be dead within the year.

My wife is also a workaholic but she's the equivalent to the alcoholic that wants to stop drinking but cannot. She just can't help herself to the point that she'll turn her own leisure time into a job.

I used to be the same but heart surgery and cancer cured me of that bullshit.
