For mainstream distros it's pretty easy

  1. Download an ISO
  2. Install Rufus or another media writer
  3. Write the ISO to a flash drive
  4. Boot the flash drive
  5. Click install
  6. Follow the prompts until it's installed

Reddit is a high proportion of tech issue search results. "just use lemmy" doesn't solve anything

Sadly this is just a dev kit. It has soldered memory and only works with emmc storage

Android already has support*

It just doesn't have that many files anymore, since not that many people use it. 1337x.to is more popular now

Vimms Lair is getting removal notices from Nintendo etc. We need someone to help make a rom pack archive can you help? ( slrpnk.net )

Vimms lair is starting to remove many roms that are being requested to be removed by Nintendo etc. soon many original roms, hacks, and translations will be lost forever. Can any of you help make archive torrents of roms from vimms lair and cdromance? They have hacks and translations that dont exist elsewhere and will probably be...

It explicitly sets it to that to help disguise the fact that it's a script rather than a browser

Netflix Windows app is set to remove its downloads feature, while introducing ads ( www.techradar.com )

Netflix has managed to annoy a good number of its users with an announcement about an upcoming update to its Windows 11 (and Windows 10) app: support for adverts and live events will be added, but the ability to download content is being taken away....

ReveredOxygen ,

They're talking about the fact that Netflix isn't removing the feature from their Android/iOS apps

It doesn't really matter if you make piracy more difficult if you don't make it impossible. Only one person has to figure out how to rip it, then everyone else can watch it

I believe instances generate the preview as soon as it's federated. The problem is that if you have many followers, each of their instances will try to generate a preview at the same time

I know you can get most of the KDE Connect features with GSConnect. I assume clipboard sharing works too?

ReveredOxygen ,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

Correct. But if you install gnome, it comes with default configs

ReveredOxygen ,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

You can get the switcher in KDE, but you can't get a real equivalent to gnome's view. In gnome you can press super to get the overview, but you can also type to open programs. There's no way to do that in KDE afaik. It's the main thing keeping me from KDE

ReveredOxygen ,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

In the case where you took everything out though, there's no bags for it to get stuck on. There's no need for it to slam itself

Windows just sucks at handling Bluetooth. It's ridiculous that you can't change audio codecs, or choose between handsfree and high quality audio. You have to let windows guess at both

ReveredOxygen ,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

You can change flatpak permissions with flatseal (you'll need to install it). A lot of them have absolutely braindead defaults
It's really not great to get in the habit of installing random debs from the Internet. Aside from being a massive security issue, you'll never get updates. If mint repos don't get updated though, I suppose that's the easiest workaround

ReveredOxygen ,
@ReveredOxygen@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah when you're downloading from sites like those, there's not a security risk anymore. The thing is that Linux software generally expects you to be using a package manager, so it doesn't update itself. When you download and install debs, you lose auto update functionality. But when you're on a distro like mint with old packages, that doesn't really matter since you're not getting up to date software through the repos anyway

if you've touched polynomials ever, you'd expect the exponent to be before the negation. If you write x³-x² you don't mean x³ + (-x)² = x³+x², you mean x³-(x²)
