For me, there is little that is more inspiring than opening my bedroom curtains in the early morning and being greeted by this kind of stunning beauty.
This is why I keep a camera upstairs - these moments are so fleeting, but so very rewarding.
An afternoon drive in Fjallabak, the "back mountains" in southern #Iceland. We stopped to look at Landmannahellir, a well-known cave, and our guide parked overlooking Löðmundarvatn lake.
The sheltered flanks of Löðmundur (473m/1552ft) still retained some snow, even in August.
Going on holiday in 2 weeks and my brain won't relax until I pack but if I pack I will run out of summer clothes for the next 2 weeks so I am now stumped about how to proceed. @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd
@niamhgarvey@actuallyautistic@actuallyadhd Ah I understand.
In that case, short of applying a touch of ‘soft soaping’ to your hubby & persuading him that a quick trip to the outfitters of your choice for a new summer collection is in order , I’m stumped !
In terms of height this lovely falls is relatively small, with only a gradual 6m drop, but it stretches across the mighty Þjórsá river. It's the country's most voluminous waterfall at 360m³/s even though the water volume has been diminished by ≈ 50% because of the 5 hydroelectric dams built upstream.
Urriðafoss ("Trout Falls") in Flóahreppur, southern #Iceland.
Ok back from seeing yon Dr about ASD dx letter, much better than last time!
Short version (long version will be in tonight’s diary) is that ThunderSquirrels are GO !
I’m really quite chuffed. 😊
Gonna go get a coffee (seems that coffee is the beverage of choice now. ) sort out the ADHD forms , then I’ll get back on here & catch up with you lovely Peeps !
I've been Tooting a lot about my current struggles relating to: moving/changing life/changing routine/being social on social media. Maybe you've noticed... 😉
I'm looking for peeps to follow! Peeps to chat with. Maybe you've been in "my" situation, maybe you'll be in "my" situation (soon), or maybe you just wanna try out your social skills (like I do).
Please drop me a Toot!
:blobCat_angel:
This time, this Toot, I will be brave and tag the Actually Autistics group for a boost :boosts_ok_gay:
Be warned, I either Toot my fingers off, or I'll lurk from a safe hiding spot...
"Lord, how mine eyes throw gazes to the east!
My heart doth charge the watch; the morning rise
Doth cite each moving sense from idle rest.
Not daring trust the office of mine eyes"
Sunset in September. Queen's View, possibly named after Queen Isabella, wife of Robert the Bruce. A spectacular view over Loch Tummel to Schiehallion and beyond.
Pitlochry, Perth and Kinross, #Scotland.
This is lovely Fláajökull, the "Sloping Glacier" in south-western #Iceland.
This creeping glacier is an outlet from Vatnajökull, and reached its maximum expansion in ≈ 1894. It has receded ≈ 2 km (1.25 mi) during the last 100 years, leaving a glacial lagoon at its snout.
This was one of the first times we'd visited gorgeous Seljalandsfoss, and we discovered when we arrived that we were almost the only visitors at that time. Imagine that - the whole place to ourselves.
The little figure in a black coat on the path to the 61m/200ft falls is me!
September, Rangárþing eystra in southern #Iceland.
For what sort of toots could I use hashtags like #ActuallyAutistic or the previous two I just used?
I Toot quite a bit about me and my quirky way life. But I never really know if I "should" add any ND hashtags as the "silly" things I Toot about are quite normal to me. If that makes sense 🤔...
I'm proud enough, these days, of who I am. But I wonder if and when it would be good to add some of these tags... Maybe it could help connect with other peeps like me 😇.
@PixysJourney@actuallyautistic Use the tags that make sense to you - that’s the way I do it. I,m not sure (as @pathfinder said) that there are any hard n fast rules.
This beautiful canyon was created by erosion from glacial meltwater cutting through the palagonite over millennia. It has carved strange, twisted pillars of rock standing on either flank of the river. A well-laid walking trail climbs the eastern side for about a mile, ans contains many observation platforms.
Fjaðrárgljúfur ("Feather river canyon") in Skaftárhreppur, southern #Iceland.
@ashleyspencer@actuallyautistic I recently got my assessment & diagnosis for being autistic. The consultant wrote that he recommended an ADHD assessment too!
While I have wondered if I was autistic for a while , I’ve never really felt any strong link to being AuDHD.
Until I read this!
Which is me!
I’d put the ADHD assessment on a back burner because the GP was - unhelpful when I went to see him about it. But if there is treatment then I need it !
@ashleyspencer@actuallyautistic Honestly I’m not in denial, it was never something that added up for me & my wife - a mental heath social worker , is adamant that I’m not. (That said she never caught that I was autistic & we’ve been together more than 20 years 🙄🤦♂️ ) (1/2)
"His qualities were beauteous as his form,
For maiden-tongued he was, and thereof free;
Yet, if men moved him, was he such a storm
As oft 'twixt May and April is to see,
When winds breathe sweet, untidy though they be."
The volcanic sands of Reynisfjara, near Vík í Mýrdal in southern #Iceland.
This strand regularly features in lists of "World's Top Beaches" due to its cleanliness, water quality and sheer loveliness.
If it was rated for swimming and sunbathing, it would get 0/10 every time!
The basalt stump in the centre is Arnardrangur (Eagle Rock) and in the distance are the famous Reynisdrangar.
There are some lovely and quite famous valleys in southern #Iceland, this one is unusual because the entrance is blocked by a large, dome-shaped rock.
Stjórnargljúfur (𝙎𝙩𝙮𝙖𝙬𝙣-𝘢𝘳𝘳-𝘨𝘭𝘺𝘰𝘰-𝘷𝘳𝘳) gulley also contains a river and its waters cascade beautifully over this block.
Stjórnarfoss waterfall (49 ft/15 m high) in Skaftárhreppur. The guy in the shot is my partner!
"Old Smoky" - from the cloud of smoke ("reek") that was always hanging over it due to smog and the sea haar inversion holding down the home fire and industrial smokes.
Interestingly, the Icelandic word "reyk" means "smoke" so Reykjavík is literally "bay of smoke."
Both are from Old Norse "reykja" = smoke/steam.
Lang may yer lum reek!
Photo taken from the south, at Craigmillar Castle on a beautiful day in February '24.
November: A shot from a plane flying at 6500m between Reykjavik to Akureyri. The accumulation of snowflakes on the top of Hrútfell (1396m) eventually flows as part of a glacier - Hrútfellsjökull.
The other mountains are Innra-Sandfell and Femra-Sandfell. Bláskógabyggð in the western Central Highlands of #Iceland.
February: Crossing the Tröllaskagi peninsular on a beautifully crisp day. The main ring-road, Route 1, passes between multiple 1000+ metre high mountains as it winds between Skagafjörður and Eyjafjörður in the north of #Iceland.
I particularly love this spot, dropping down into Öxnadalur from Krókárdalur, but I'd never seen the road picked out so clearly before.
This is Gluggafoss, the "Window Waterfall". A slab of near-vertical rock interrupts the drop of the water, causing it to bounce from one face to the other.
The little concrete bridge across the river Þórðará at the bottom right is still functional, although it doesn't look it!
Svínafellsjökull ("Pig Mountain Glacier") in the midday sunshine, farm buildings at its foot lending scale.
The dark lobe near ground level at the snout is from a landslide - the glacier shrinkage has left the side walls dangerously unsupported, and the collapse is accelerating the melt of the ice beneath.
Literally the "Help Waterfall" because travelling by horse across the Highlands via Sprengisandur was long and difficult, and this was one of the first vegetated areas they reached to water and graze their horses.
The geology surrounding the falls is fascinating, the eruptions of nearby Hekla have left beautifully twisted basalt columns all around.
