Windows beats Mac on price.
Windows beats Linux on compatability.

Really all there is to it.

If you want to spend 3x the money, get a Mac.

If you're comfortable dealing with software incompatibility, install Linux.

Worked under Windows, not an ISP problem.

These are the sorts of things you have to accept as a Linux user and figure out workarounds.

It happens all the time with job search sites and government sites. Happens to Safari users on Mac as well.

European far-right leaders gather ahead of EU elections ( www.theguardian.com )

International far-right leaders, including France’s Marine Le Pen, Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, Italy’s Giorgia Meloni and Argentina’s Javier Milei, came together in Madrid to rail against socialism and “massive illegal migration” three weeks before hard-right parties are expected to see a surge in support in June’s...

My only beef with Space Babies was that they kept saying "SPACE BABIES!!!" over and over.

They did explicitly explain the catching of the tube with putting the foot down though.

Although how funny would it have been to make him do the episode on one foot? ;)

Zelensky: 'Our partners fear that Russia will lose this war' ( kyivindependent.com )

President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Ukraine's partners "are afraid of Russia losing the war" and would like Kyiv "to win in such a way that Russia does not lose," Zelensky said in a meeting with journalists attended by the Kyiv Independent....

It sounds silly until you see him single handedly move a barn(!)

4ish years ago when I bought a house I was convinced not to get a house inspection, would it be crazy to get one now just to make sure it's all good?

Was 25 and super nervous, so when the realtor was like "oh yeah they just check for basic stuff, but I looked around and it looks great" I was like "Oh okay, this is so astronomically expensive every penny saved is good..."...

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

We did an inspection before we bought.

They found a gas leak in the attic.

They also found that while radon mitigation equipment was installed, it was never connected to power.

The roof was 20 years old and only had a 20 year lifespan. No leaks... but... yeah.

It was easy, the fly was circling the living room and she'd leap into the air every time it was over her head. She had to have done it 15, 16 times in a row.

The hard part was not knowing if I got the shot until the film was developed.

Do companies store facial and voice recognition data from the thousands of hours of zoom/teams calls that their employees use?

I heard a person call into a show the other day, voice only, and talk about some poor working conditions at a factory. Made me think about how it would probably be so easy for nefarious bosses to be able to identify that person through voice recognition SW with all of the data that comes from us looking directly into cameras and...

"Spanish" - It's Latin, guys... LATIN.

@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

It was a little more than "Cato hated Carthage."

He was a Roman Senator and every time he had a speech, he ended it with "CARTHAGO DELENDA EST!" - CARTHAGE MUST BE DESTROYED!

Even on speeches that had fuck all to do with Carthage.

It helps to understand what was going on... Rome and Carthage were on opposite sides of the Mediterranean and at odds politically and economically:

At their peak, Carthage controlled all of North Africa and parts of what is now Spain:

After the Punic Wars... yeah...

https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/f366cb5b-afb1-43fe-a55d-b2c1495f2840.jpeg

The legends of Rome literally salting the earth of Carthage to ensure permanent destruction is largely a modern myth, but yeah, they tore the hell out of it and made slaves of the survivors.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salting_the_earth

"At least as early as 1863,[7] various texts claimed that the Roman general Scipio Aemilianus plowed over and sowed the city of Carthage with salt after defeating it in the Third Punic War (146 BC), sacking it, and enslaving the survivors. The salting was probably modeled on the story of Shechem. Though ancient sources do mention symbolically drawing a plow over various cities and salting them, none mention Carthage in particular.[3] The salting story entered the academic literature in Bertrand Hallward's article in the first edition of the Cambridge Ancient History (1930), and was widely accepted as factual.[8] However, there are no ancient sources for it and it is now considered legendary.[1][9][8"

It would be a little like today if, I dunno, Lindsey Graham ended every speech and interview with "BEIJING MUST BE DESTROYED!"

Why Didn't Democrats Do More When They Controlled Both Houses of Legislature, The White House, and The Supreme Court During Obama's First Term?

I've been wondering for a bit why during the time the Democrats controlled the legislature, executive, and judicial branches during Obama's first term in 2008 more wasn't accomplished. Shouldn't that have been the opportunity to make Row V Way law and fix the electoral college? I understand the recession was going on but outside...

Because "control" doesn't mean much in the Senate unless you have 60 votes to break a filibuster.
