Is this the 2nd or 3rd incident? I'm losing track!

Removed, internal US news is not World News... plus, this source is super sus. Each article is simply "Who is..." with a persons name from the news with what appears to be compiled information from other sources, possibly AI compiled.

Shouldn't be made.

The farther it gets from the source material, the worse it gets. There is no source material to cover what they want to do here.

We have a lot to lose because it's taking money away from other projects that aren't likely to suck.

Reported as "wrong world", but technically the only locational rule is that it not be internal US news... and it's not...

Probably more suited for News or Science, but fine...

What song should I play for my bathroom neighbors?

The work bathroom is currently a warzone, on their phone speakers people like to play music, play games at full blast, and one guy likes to chill to ambient rainforest. What song can I play to passive aggressively make it known that I don't want to listen to their tik tok feeds while I work out my demons?

@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Fun fact... we had to vote on it TWICE.

The first ballot measure passed 51.31% to 48.69%, which prompted the legislature to refer it back to the voters 3 years later...

Where voters upheld the law 59.91% to 40.09%.

Pentagon says none of the aid unloaded from US pier off coast of Gaza has been delivered to broader Palestinian population ( www.cnn.com )

None of the aid that has been unloaded from the temporary pier the US constructed off the coast of Gaza  has been delivered to the broader Palestinian population, as the US works with the UN and Israel to identify safe delivery routes inside the enclave, the Pentagon said on Tuesday....

The only surprise here is that the pier hasn't already been "accidentally" targeted by Israel.

Our jobs have always been at risk from outsourcing.

Fortunately, they don't (currently) appear to be good at it.

In the end, it doesn't matter how he defines it. We are signatories to the UN and the UN definition in Article II of the "Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide" is:

https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/genocide.shtml

"In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

a) Killing members of the group;

b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

Note the language: "ANY of the following acts".

Israel is now 5/5 with the relocation of children from Gaza to the West Bank.

"intent to destroy in whole or in part".

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/israel-mp-no-innocents-gaza-should-burn-now

"I don't think there are any innocents there now, not now and not when I said those things," Vaturi said.

“I urge you to do everything and use Doomsday weapons fearlessly against our enemies,” Gotliv wrote on social media platform X, calling upon Israel to use “everything in its arsenal”.

In November, Galit Distel Atbaryan, Israel's former public diplomacy minister, called for Gaza to be “erased from the face of the Earth”, stating that the besieged enclave should be “wiped out” by a “vengeful and vicious” Israeli army.

Last week, lawmaker Moshe Saada said that widespread calls he had heard from the Israeli public to “destroy all Gazans” had proven that the “right-wing was right about the Palestinian issue”.

They really need to focus on doing better work. The best days of Pixar are long behind them at this point.

Up was 2009 and that looks to be the high point. It's been down-hill from there.

Coco was beautiful but utterly predictable in 2017.

Toy Story 3 was OK. I still argue that "When She Loved Me" from Toy Story 2 is better than the entirety of Toy Story 3.

Inside Out I had major problems with. I didn't buy that a kid could get to be that age and have ZERO negative experiences. No dead grandma? No dead pet? Nothing? Moving is the most traumatic experience they ever had? Meh.

Soul and Elemental I didn't even finish watching.

Never Cry Wolf ( lemmy.world )

This movie was made in 1983 and I used to have it on video tape as a kid, but I hadn't seen it since the 80s and I re-watched it as an adult yesterday. It was such a moving film. It was stunningly beautiful both visually and thematically. The running with caribou scene was some really incredible animal footage which must have...

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

I saw it in the theater when it came out, lots of good movies from back then.

IIRC the gag was everyone was worried that the wolves were eating caribou and he discovered they were living on mice instead.

His whole "eating mice" thing was a proof of concept. Can a higher order mammal subsist on a mouse diet? Apparently, yes!

But 1983 was a tough year for films. It was at the box office. Same year Return of the Jedi was #1, Tootsie, Flashdance, Trading Places, War Games, Octopussy, Risky Business, Mr. Mom... eesh.

If you want another great, overlooked film from '83, check out - The Year of Living Dangerously.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Year_of_Living_Dangerously_(film)

The story is about a love affair set in Indonesia during the overthrow of President Sukarno. It follows a group of foreign correspondents in Jakarta on the eve of an attempted coup by the 30 September Movement in 1965.

Linda Hunt won the academy award for best supporting actress for her role, and would later go on to be the iconic bartender in Silverado.

Being reported as sketchy information, but the basic premise of plastics being a synthetic estrogen is sound, at least as far as BPA is concerned:

https://www.breastcancer.org/risk/risk-factors/exposure-to-chemicals-in-plastic

"BPA is a weak synthetic estrogen found in many rigid plastic products, food and formula can linings, dental sealants, and on the shiny side of paper cashier receipts (to stabilize the ink). Its estrogen-like activity makes it a hormone disruptor, like many other chemicals in plastics. Hormone disruptors can affect how estrogen and other hormones act in the body, by blocking them or mimicking them, which throws off the body's hormonal balance. Because estrogen can make hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer develop and grow, many women choose to limit their exposure to these chemicals that can act like estrogen.

BPA also seems to affect brain development in the womb. In 2011, a study found that pregnant women with high levels of BPA in their urine were more likely to have daughters who showed signs of hyperactivity, anxiety, and depression. The symptoms were seen in girls as young as 3. It’s not clear why boys aren’t affected in the same way."

I'm on my second, it got dropped and one of the rivets on the strap buckle popped beyond my ability to repair.

But I liked it enough and it was cheap enough, to just buy another one and a slightly bigger one for the Steam Deck. LOL.

In 2001 I was a teacher and I had my TV set to automatically turn on as my alarm clock set to the local news/traffic/weather.

So the TV turns on and it's a plane crashing into the tower, and I'm like WTF? Why are they showing a movie? Where's my news and traffic?

Then the 2nd plane hits and OMFG. That's when it sinks in.

They closed Manhattan. There's talk of a dirty bomb. Nobody knows what's going on and Bush is flying all around like a scared bunny rabbit.

That first night, we knew we were going to war. We didn't know with who yet, but it was clear we were going to war, and if we were super unlucky, Bush might just nuke somebody.

I didn't sleep for a week.
