Hi, there!

💆

I was born in 1989, so I am an ancient grandpa and demand respect for my lawn. (/s ya right like I own a house)

(P.s. I am not a sexy hairy ripped daddy bear, but I do own a cat named Tammy 🐈‍⬛)

I've been playing video games for about 30 years and this is hands down one of the best games I've ever played.

Edit: other noteworthy mentions - outer wilds, the original ps2 amplitude, and NieR Automata are some other stand out masterpieces of my life.

I was instructed to bring it to the store and would not receive my refund.

How do you charge back something you bought with ebt??

FunnyUsername ,

Tbh, the game wasn't even that good. After the first 5-6 hours most people put it down. It just becomes frustrating and not fun.

What do you think about this?

Someone told me that if you keep your gaze fixed and imagine a completely black circle right above someone's head, what you are actually doing is telepathy... so far I haven't researched more about it but I have noticed that some strange things happen when I do that, I see spirals and the vision looks different, could someone...

Tldr: It's quicktime events.

Keep up on your Bayonetta, everyone!

Easy answer: kick companies the fuck off the Internet, make internet service a public utility, and provide tax supported services for the most important functions (payments, medical records, SEARCH, etc)

Where will the tax money come from? Well nowhere, the Pentagon is too busy blowing it on wars and hiding aliens. This won't happen because we don't get things like this because companies are too busy innovating civilians into shitty lives.

What linguistic constructions do you hate that no one else seems to mind?

It bugs me when people say "the thing is is that" (if you listen for it, you'll start hearing it... or maybe that's something that people only do in my area.) ("What the thing is is that..." is fine. But "the thing is is that..." bugs me.)...

"As a ________, this is my opinion about a related topic to the field in which I'm in...."

It's the Internet. No one needs your credentials. People lie about credentials all the time anyways. People cheat through college. It's a humble brag, nothing more. Just give us your thoughts, not your resume.

Every single career is literally filled with under performing unqualified workers. The Peter Principle will always be around

Edit: i had to fire a licensed physician that wanted to attempt cranial sacral therapy on me a couple months ago. The odds people are incompetent is a lot higher than people think, even among professionals.

The ps2 had THE BEST library of any console, even to this day. I am still learning about random hiddem gems ive never heard of on it, and I've been gaming for 25 years

[Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism?

Seen a lot of posts on Lemmy with vegan-adjacent sentiments but the comments are typically very critical of vegan ideas, even when they don't come from vegans themselves. Why is this topic in particular so polarising on the internet? Especially since unlike politics for example, it seems like people don't really get upset by it...

FunnyUsername ,
@FunnyUsername@lemmy.world avatar

I can barely afford Perkins let alone a vegan restaurant.

Having morals is not cheap. I feel for you having to see other people eat food they can afford, that must be really hard, but a lot of people literally DON'T have the luxury, calorie to dollar, to be vegan. And no, eating rice and beans every day is not an acceptable diet.

Many people don't even live by a store with anything other than over ripe bananas and Apples. People don't all live in cities with Uber eats delivering organics from target. For MANY people, increasing their plant intake would mean literally starting a farm at home (quite the chore!), hour commutes, or relying on canned goods.

I eat a lot of fruits and veggies, because I'm fortunate enough to have moved out of one of these produce black holes. But baby carrots, canned corn, and frozen broccoli really gets old when that's all that's there. Forever.

Meat is good for quite a long time if frozen.

Cigarette smokers must really baffle you too

Me too. I always thought of Nokia as genuine innovator's delivery good products. Not fantastic products. But good products with CONSUMERS in mind and their usage habits, rather than designing phones around optimizing selling us things.

I downloaded a third party app that re enables the windows 10 taskbar and lets you put it on the side. It's called ExplorerPatcher. Cannot believe you can't dock the win 11 taskbar on the side....what a choice....

So then why did you get married at all? Fun? Taxes?

FunnyUsername ,
@FunnyUsername@lemmy.world avatar

No, you are a misunderstanding me. The post I'm replying to was acting as if they had some new wisdom from being polyamorous and their perspective on marriage. But it sounds like they're just using it as a business move which is something a lot of non polyamorous people do as well, and nothing new. I wasn't asking what reasons could possibly exist to get married outside of romance or whatever you're talking about, I was asking SPECIFICALLY THEM why they bothered. But it seems the only actual reason they have is taxes, despite their diatribe.

I know this isn't a common takeaway, but I'm all for it.

The current state of call centers is EXCRUCIATINGLY painful for consumers and only exists in the form it does to commodify US for the company. We tolerate the shit experience of call centers, so companies don't need to pay more money to give us a better experience. That's why they exist, the only reason. If firing them all and turning them into AI makes the experience even SLIGHTLY less painful than calling your local public assistance help line, I'm all for it. If I can bypass 4 separate phone tree selection menus with 3 minutes of wait time with the crackling loud wait music between being passed around departments, I'm all for it. These are shit dead end jobs with no upside whatsoever.

The whole Reddit debacle has really made me rethink all my services. I recently installed duck duck go and still getting used to it, so not quite sure if I'm ready to make another drastic change.

I used to love Firefox in 2006 or so, but got Chrome when it was released and forgot about Firefox. I think I'll open a tab in my chrome browser for the Firefox page now...this is how I remind myself to delve deeper into stuff later. Thanks for the inspiration, everyone. Google has irked me ever since removing the Don't Be Evil mantra.

This one really shocked me, too! I got a Fitbit to monitor my heart rate because of a genetic condition, but fast forward a couple years and I'm running a mile and exercising multiple times a week.

Didn't see that coming, but a nice result!

Tbh, I hate the Fitbit though. I hate that it's owned by Google and they charge me to see my own data. I'd love to switch, but I can't find alternatives that check all the boxes from a Charge 5....

Edit: if you're looking to get a Fitbit and wanna save some money, thrift stores often have electronic sections full of em! My bf got his charge 5 for 50$ from a goodwill. Same one 100$ more in the target across the street.
