Edit: to everyone downvoting me. Most of the Chinese themed events in Toronto are round about funded by the CCP who commits acts of genocide against its Muslim populations daily. But you guys aren't really pro Muslim/Arab human rights, just anti Israel.
Here you go moron. Most of the Chinese themed events such as the season festival. Taste of Asia, etc. in Toronto are round about funded by the CCP who commits acts of genocide against its Muslim populations daily. But you guys aren't really pro Muslim/Arab human rights, just anti Israel.
"I'll piss off some of my voters either way, so best not to take a principled stance." It's disappointing she won't denounce genocide, but not particularly surprising.
Tbh, policing of criticism of the Israeli government and their ongoing colonialist genocide of the Palestinian people has been so profoundly pervasive and oppressive in Canada (and US, Germany, and other countries), at least the half year or so, that I consider Chow's comments and non-participation pretty courageous and commendable actually. Like you, I certainly would have liked a more principled stance that explicitly denounces genocide, but given the almost absurd level of censorship and whitewashing that's been going on, I think she's perhaps saying and doing as much as she can. It's clear to me that this is much larger than her. I'm glad she's mildly voicing dissent about the flag-raising at Toronto City Hall. It's a @#$%ing travesty
That's fair. Maybe I'm putting too much of the systemic problems at her feet, when in fact I'm more disappointed in almost all of our leadership. And you're right, it's better than nothing.
Yeah, we should instead be spending $500 per person per day to securely confine asylum seekers and give daily whippings to men, women, children who are trying to escape hardship.
Good? 140$ per night for a hotel room is roughly what I would have expected, it's not like this government (or the Conservatives) would ever consider building and operating their own housing, so this is the only option...
I imagine the problem here is that we need more government workers hired to process asylum seekers, but once again would we expect the Conservative government (the one that has been on and off criticising the number federal workers we have) to actually hire more people to fix that?
I'm so tired of reading these low effort "news" pieces
Conservatives would really prefer to force Holiday Inn to house asylum seekers for 10$/day because they apparently hate the free market. Their words - not mine.
CROSSING THE BORDER AT AN UNOFFICIAL ENTRY POINT TO CLAIM
ASYLUM IS NOT ILLEGAL.
To enter Canada without prior authorization for the purpose of seeking asylum is not a crime under international and Canadian law.
Why?
Because it is not always safe or even
possible for a person running for his/her life to obtain proper travel documents to reach
safety in another country.

The NP and PCs have to bigot, because bigots gotta bigot.
I think the bigger problem is the amount of people seeking "asylum" vs the people actually needing asylum. In both the US and Canada it is being used as a loophole.
There's some reporting at the US border. The cartel brings you to the border and tells you what to say for a price in the thousands per person. They put you through and you tell them you are in specific personal danger if you return.
You can tell how smart somebody is by their level of self awareness. Idiots almost always tell you to do something they are already demonstrating they cannot do themselves.
It's an election year and I haven't heard a damn thing out of jagmeet Singh except when this issue comes up. It's clear he only cares about the south Indian community, and doesn't want to be the PM of Canada
