I don't like pairing it to an app but the fact it's described as barebones means it's focusing specifically on the function which is a bit of a relief.

In Canada, external hard drives of 8-20TB capacity show up every now and then for a rate of C$20/TB (US$14.50) so it won't take more than 3 months to offset that cost. As a backup, online s3 storage might be reasonable.

The one rule I would dream of seeing is soft speed throttling to ensure that cars and trucks stay a safe 3 second distance or more apart from each other. That should be relatively easy to do with basic distance sensing and calculations.

I agree, it is double counted.

However, when it comes to emissions, the buyer and seller should bear half (or something close to that) of the responsibility each. Take the number and divide it in half if you wish, but the producer shifting responsibility to the buyer is not a fair share of the blame, and figures like this help give a sense of how much this is being done.

Starcraft 2 has the best control scheme out of all the RTS games that I have played. I wish Age of Empires 2 could put the map on the left, then I would be way better at using it.

If it's anything like Toronto Pearson International Airport it's a crapshoot.

Step 0: With kids, corralling the children takes a while and can be like herding cats.

Step 1: Just getting to the airport, from 40km away if you are driving/Taxi, it will take from 20 minutes or 2 hours+ to get to the airport. People who use YYZ often live further than that so add any additional time from that. The Union Pearson Express train is only useful if you are trying to get from Union to Pearson or somewhere between. The 900 bus from Kipling, local TTC routes, Go Bus, MiWay, Brampton Transit all feel second class and you get the same rush hour traffic.

Step 2: Check-in. Domestic flights are fine because not as many people check bags and the counter is quick or you can often skip it entirely. International flights have long, long lines at the counter so add an hour.

Step 3: Security. Another crapshoot depending on whether you are there at peak time. Could be 5 minutes, could be an hour or more to get through.

Step 4: Attending to food and washroom needs. Since it's not possible to know exactly how long this process will go, if unprepared, random food and bathroom stops may be necessary.

So all in all preparing for the worst by leaving/preparing to go at 6:30 for a 14:00 flight is not unheard of when flying via Pearson.

Right now I just play with things at a level that I don't care if they pop out of existence tomorrow.

If you want to be truly safe (at an individual level, not an institutional level where there's someone with an interest in fucking your stuff up), you need to make sure things are recoverable unless 3 completely separate things go wrong at the same time (an outage at a remote data centre, your server fails and your local backup fails). Very unlikely for all 3 to happen simultaneously, but 1 is likely to fail and 2 is forseeable, so you can fix it before the 3rd also fails.

Hmm, I have no clue how to get JUST the date format to show a certain way, whether it's 月火水木金土日, MTWTFSS, LMMJVSD, and pick very specific parts of the locale like that. Is using the "Japanese" way common in some regions in China?

Perhaps related is getting dates to display like 19 June 2024, June 19 2024 or 2024/06/19 without changing your region?

Around Nanaimo, Victoria and the Vancouver Islands seems like the perfect spot for being the first places to replace shorthaul fossil-fuel-based flights and small ferries with electric planes.

I expect it to grow from there.

Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver I could see a congestion charge working. (Vancouver already has TransLink parking fees and other things).

The TTC or GO needs to run frequent orbital bus routes in dedicated lanes around the 401, DVP, Gardiner, and 427 ring (connecting Oriole GO/Leslie, Science Centre, Castle Frank, Union, Long Branch GO, Kipling GO, Etobicoke North GO, Yorkdale) ASAP to cover these perennially congested routes. Maybe a second ring for 407, 404, 401, 400.

Ottawa, Calgary, Québec and other cities don't have well enough developed transit to justify it, yet. Maybe once they finish their current planned projects.

In my experience, the existing lemmy servers really started taking off from the dozens of active users that were there into the hundreds, with each day after May 31 having exponential growth. By the time Lemmy.world started around June 17, we were into the thousands. This was a huge change many of the users and admins weren't expecting, and the servers were barely ready for.

I've been playing Civ 6, with and without the mods. Custom Leaders and many combinations of mods tend to make the game desync after 100 turns on quick speed, but I enjoy it.

I've enjoyed civ 5 too but just haven't played as much I guess. The DLC being so numerous, my rating of Civ 6 against 5 would depend on which "edition" you have. It bugs me that it doesn't show which civs you didn't own don't appear until after you select them in the menu.

Has native Linux support, but if you are playing with friends or other online multiplayer I would recommend the proton version as sometimes updates lag behind.
