It bugs me when people say "the thing is is that" (if you listen for it, you'll start hearing it... or maybe that's something that people only do in my area.) ("What the thing is is that..." is fine. But "the thing is is that..." bugs me.)...

Seen a lot of posts on Lemmy with vegan-adjacent sentiments but the comments are typically very critical of vegan ideas, even when they don't come from vegans themselves. Why is this topic in particular so polarising on the internet? Especially since unlike politics for example, it seems like people don't really get upset by it...

It's an issue of the loud ones standing out the most. I can easily say the same thing about many carnivores I know, who moan and complain if there's as much as a piece of corn in their meal.

I'd like to share my perspective as a professional performer, since we're essentially forced to use Instagram. Specifically, we have to go where the general public goes.

At best, we tolerate Instagram but in reality most of us absolutely HATE it and die inside using it. Instagram imposes the ethics of a celibate Amish priest on performers- especially queer performers and performers of color since we're more likely to get reported. It's entirely EXPECTED to get censored heavily or shut down for innocuous bullshit. Most performers are on their second, third, or fourth accounts.

I've had videos flagged as sexual activity because I said the word "breasts" while dressed in street clothes. Pasties may as well be full frontal. Hell, my bio is currently flagged as inappropriate.

Fuck Instagram.

On a personal note, IG thinks I'm obsessed with popping and maggot extraction videos (I'm not, they're disgusting). My suggestions are entirely influencers I don't care about and gross shit. IG is also actively censoring any criticism of Israel.

Working retail in highschool in an area that is fairly low income but also intersects an area famous for celebrity vacation homes. The rich families would buy $1000 iPads for spoiled brats without any kind of breakage protection (after screaming at the retail workers for the screen not being indestructible, of course). The poor families always spent extra for protection because they valued their devices and couldn't easily afford another one.
