Most older games will have 2-3 engine loops that they will blend between and pitch accordingly, however Forza 5 specifically was the first in the series to use granular synthesis which is a much more modern approach.

These will have a series of sound files including all the different parts of the engine, exhaust, turbo, etc. Then the software slices these files into tons of pieces in real-time and plays the slices based on the players inputs.

It’s tricky to explain without examples, so here’s a video that does a decent job of explaining how it works in music: https://youtu.be/ftDLRYnRYZQ?si=SEHOl55K7rimi4Eu

I can recommend myNoise if you’re looking for an app with quality soundscapes. Unfortunately not free for all of them, but they are all very high quality and they offer an unlock all option.

Screenprinting. I also did work as a quality tech for machining. Manufacturing jobs in general do not seem to get any public recognition even though they can be some of the most engaging and can cater to a lot of people that don’t enjoy the employee-customer relationship.

That being said, finding the sweet spot for management can be a challenge.

It’s a career path that’s practically ignored in schools and I wish math classes used more examples from engineering and manufacturing to answer the age-old “Where am I ever going to use this?” question.

I speak from experience that no one other than professionals should be handling their own mail servers in 2024. I worked for a mail host. The amount of spam and attacks that befall a mail provider, even a small one, is bonkers. Plus, mail is just too damn important.

I wish it wasn’t the case because the idea of everyone privately hosting their own mail servers would be pretty awesome. Sadly the modern internet makes it way too risky.

This right here is what defensive driving is supposed to look like. If you have the option to distance yourself from the other cars on the road, that’s always best.

It baffles me seeing a group of cars on the road all bunched up with less than a second between them going 75. If there’s a hazard on the road that the cars behind don’t see, they’re all going to crash into each other when the guy in front slams his brakes.

Driving is all about awareness and predicting what others might do. I just assume at any point, anyone could need to suddenly brake hard. Plan accordingly and position yourself defensively.

Okay, but their teas are actually pretty darn good and not loaded with sugar. I agree about the water though.

(Although, aluminum is essentially infinitely recyclable compared to plastic, so is probably a better alternative to bottled water)

There’s a movie called Unhinged where someone honks for too long at Russell Crowe’s character and the rest of the movie is him angrily chasing the main character. It’s absolutely hilariously unrealistic and it’s super fun to laugh at.

I’ll pitch in since no one’s mentioned Reelgood.com yet. Justwatch has been inconsistent for me in the past.

NFS OST remade for kids

One of the weird realization for me as I learnt English and listened to authors who contributed to these games, is that many remastered their tracks to exclude swear words and obvious mentions of drugs, or was it EA specialists? NFS Underground and Most Wanted games were filled with rap and metal, but still got rated for teens...

NFS Hot Pursuit 2 has some tracks from Hot Action Cop that has basically unintelligible lyrics. Listening to the originals, they’re raunchy as hell. One of them was even used as intro music.

otacon239 ,

Yesss. The way the lines all sort of sway always gives it such a unique look. I was worried the remaster would take some of this away, but it looked just as good.

I wish we could have gotten a proper sequel. RIP Clover Studios.

While less popular, Viewtiful Joe also still holds up for similar reasons.

Meta is a complete dumpster fire

Nothing profound here, just need to vent: I haven't used Facebook for several years now, but I just got my 10 year old son a Meta Quest 2 and had to activate it by linking to my Facebook account. Just two days later I got a warning that the account will be locked because they detected that a child was using the Quest with an...

While I agree it’s the better headset, the $800 price difference and the requirement for an attached gaming computer, make it easy to see why the Quest gets the attention it does.

The closest thing I’ve found to an in-between is the Pico 4 at ~$450 and doesn’t require any accounts. The game library is quite limited, so it’s not a full replacement for the Quest, but it can connect wired or wireless to a dedicated PC. Newegg seems to be the best US supplier for them.

I second Horizon. There are moments where I’m convinced the graphics are pre-rendered when cranked to the max.

‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services ( www.theguardian.com )

*What rights do you have to the digital movies, TV shows and music you buy online? That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be...

I went the route of a physical collection, but man do they make it difficult unless you get a commercial player that is likely to have ads and doesn’t integrate well into a home theater setup.

I’ve taken to doing everything I can to play things through my computer, but they do everything in their power to make them unplayable. This includes things like adding hundreds of bogus playlists so you don’t know which one to play, adding extra layers of encryption that cause image corruption a few chapters into the movies, and more.

If they just allowed you to easily watch and rip the movies that I pay actual money for, I think a lot more people would be open to a physical collections of their favorites. As it stands, I can’t really recommend it.

For DVDs, I’ve never had an issue. They just amplified the BS on BluRays tenfold.

otacon239 ,

I think something important about this is that I sometimes phrase something poorly on a first attempt. With a robot, you can tell it to ignore the original massage and rephrase it until you make your point accurately.

With people, once you say something, they will attach that context no matter what even if you need to retry again a couple times to get the right point across.

I didn’t have this realization until the Edit option in modern chat AIs.

How come liberals dont hate conservatives the way conservatives hate liberals

I constantly see angry mobs of people decrying "woke", "critical race theory", ""grooming"", and whatever other nonsense they made up this week. They march around with guns, constantly appending lib as a prefix to any word they can use to denigrate. They actively plot violence and spew hatred in the open....

otacon239 ,

To add to this, the opposite of love is not hate, but ignore.

Giving your energy and attention to hating something typically means that they occupy enough mental real estate in your day to day life that you feel the need to broadcast it on a regular basis.

The liberals I know tend to spend the majority of their free time focusing on improving themselves and the world around them rather than simply target blame somewhere else.

This is why you should use a very unique typewriter model so the extra on Law & Order gets to play the local typewriter shop salesman that can instantly identify the typeface.

otacon239 ,

This could be Incredible Machine maybe?

otacon239 ,

Old Boy is a movie that constantly has you on edge because you can tell something is going horribly wrong, but you’re not sure what it is. Once you find out, the whole thing is fucked six ways to Sunday.

otacon239 ,

Indie indie indie. It’s a play on AAA games, as far as I understand it.
