Obscure screw added so appliance cannot be disassembled ( lemmy.world )

Basic blender went bad (motor ran but spindle wasn't rotating). I wanted to disassemble to see if it could be repaired. Three of the four screws were Phillips head. I had to cut the casing open in order to discover why I couldn't unscrew the fourth. It was a slotted spanner.

Here’s the link, it’s helped me out a bunch of times in the 6-8 years I’ve had it.

2 notes though

  • these are hard cheese grade metal. Don’t plan on removing any high torque, Rusty or partly stripped screws with them, they’ll either break or round off.
  • if the screw is too recesses down a narrow hole, these won’t help. The bit holders are too wide to fit in. I have a Honeywell Air Purifier with one security Torx that is 3-4” down a hole that this set failed me on.

Carter built houses for 4 decades after his presidency mismanaged the Iran hostages, energy crisis, and 70s inflation (though I’m not sure he deserves credit for the last one).

Bush is eating playing with paint and hiding from his mismanagement of the 9/11 attacks and subsequent unrelated war he started.

I know most people that were on reddit at the time are fully aware of this and won't be surprised but don't dismiss the findings out of hand. It's important that studies are being conducted and the fact that the finding match our lived experience is still noteworthy.

They’re mostly just conservatives who like drugs.

Or wear yourself out pacing and lay down for a nap or distraction and end up 5 minutes late.

I’ve been saying this pretty much since I started working in tech in 2005.

They paid too well for a while and gave nice lunches and free lattes while sucking 60-70 hours per week out if us.

I quit and fix cars now with hardly any retirement funds and shit health and dental care.

There used to be a Mazda 3 driving around Cambridge, MA with .14159….. added to the nameplate.

The license plate was MMMMPI

It’s an old bug. Your more likely to clip through the floor pan. Or heater channels down the sides.

nilloc ,

Yeah, more of a facade, than just a sign.

nilloc ,

But you guys have to find a way to keep water out of the second floor.

The Weeds and The Gray Area are also decedent topic driven interviews. Except generally with actual experts and well researched interviewers.

Massachusetts has had decent right to repair for a decade too. And had universal healthcare way back too. They just got legal weed recently, but like the others, cost of living is rough there. Boston, Somerville and Cambridge housing, but you’re stuck in Boston.

I rode clipless pedals for mountain bike racing (cross country). It is so much more efficient and they have shoes with thicker soles and deep treads which makes them more comfortable to walk in.

They also make jumping over small obstacles and rocks easier and safer.

The noise alone should make them hard to use near homes. High rpm spinning carbon blades aside.

Stack overflow has been one of the consistently reliable googleable sites for decades.

It’s a shame Quora has strayed so far from their initial cloning of SO’s site. It seems to be turning into AskYahoo 2 fast from the results I’ve seen lately.

Bought a PS 2, Gran Turismo 4 and the GT4 Logitech steering wheel and pedals when I graduated college.

Just dug it all out to show my 6 year old how fun driving can be. Looked better than I expected even with component cables.

Lead acid batteries seem to be less and less reliable lately. The warranties are shorter and shorter as well, which is the best supporting evidence I have beyond needing batteries more often for the 4-5 vehicles I maintain.

Sounds like a job for the torque test channel.

nilloc ,

Yeah those are some weird-ass tools.

And also weird ass-tools if you’re into that

I started in 2006 web design & development, worked till 2019 when my company dissolved, 5 months before the pandemic.

I moved out of the city and I’m fixing rusty old cars for peanuts. It’s nice, but can still be stressful. Just in a totally different way.

I could imagine them letting AI (or offshore workers) manage everything, and keeping the managers around with chatbots reporting in to the managers, so they wouldn’t know they were being replaced.

If he left a solid red or blue state, it doesn’t really matter. Our minority representation, first pst the pole voting and electoral college means that a lot of smart people from cities or solid blue areas can leave and nothing will change.

Plus OP’s an outlier, most of us can’t afford to relocate like this.

At least the charging network. We can buy it off Tesla no problem (we already have them a $17 million down payment).

Then start printing up new stickers to cover the Tesla logos.

I don’t even own an EV and I support funding this. It’s probably cheaper than the existing charger network plan anyway and would allow actually standardizing around the smaller smarter Tesla plugs too.

And not being a raging narcissist. But then he wouldn’t be a billionaire, so it would be a win win.

Or way more obnoxiously loud. I’m pretty sure a large portion on Harley buyers at both deaf, and want everyone around them to hear how deaf they are.

The alt text isn’t aging as well. USB-C might be it. But in actuality I suspect USB-A will never die.

Yup lawyers who take these kinds of cases that are easy wins, do it on contingency. If they don’t think you have a good case they tell you, and then charge you hourly.

nilloc ,

No that would still make my kid worth $9.8 million. My kid will be lucky if he’s worth 1/200,000th of that asshole (not accounting for inflation).

Not well at all, but they might help avoid a crash in some places what being extra visible is valuable.

Not great for ceramic coatings though.

Ours is like this and is at least 12 years old. I believe the plastic is over molded directly onto metal handle which sits about 1.5 cm into the plastic.

I’ll take some of that government EV. Maybe fill it with government cheese too while they’re at it.
