It's also memeable due to Louis Slotins blasé approach to safety, as the demon core was kept from going critical merely by shoving a screwdriver between the two half-sphere neutron-reflectors that it was kept inside.

If, or rather when (because it occurred twice), allowed to completely enclose it, they would cause it to go critical, emitting lethal amounts of radiation, instantly.

Louis and one other researcher died due to incidents involving accidental supercriticality. Many more were severely irradiated.

The blue light is caused by all radiation in the correct conditions.

So uh..... Fun thing about Transistor.

As the credits roll, Red sings for the first time in the game. The death of her lover at the beginning of the story turns her mute, which is why she only ever hums to the music in the game. During your first play-through. At the end of the game, the credits roll to the tune of "Paper Boats" which is the first song in the game to have lyrics, sung by Red.

It's an emotional high point that hits hard. She can sing again!

But there's more.

In new game+ Red no longer hums during all pause screens. She now sings the previously unheard lyrics of several songs in the game!

Even if someone did steal a mars-bar... Banning them from all food-selling establishments seems... Disproportional.

Like if you steal out of necessity, and get caught once, you then just starve?

Obviously not all grocers/chains/restaurants are that networked yet, but are we gonna get to a point where hungry people are turned away at every business that provides food, once they are on "the list"?

That is some serious "capitalism can solve anything and therefore will, if only we let it"-type brain rot.

This "solution" relies on so many assumptions that don't even begin to hold water.

Of course any utopian framework for society could deal with every conceivable problem... But in practice they don't, and always require intentional regulation to a greater or lesser extent in order to prevent harm, because humans are humans.

This particular potential problem is almost certainly not the kind that simply "solves itself" if you let it.

And IMO suggesting otherwise is an irresponsible perpetuation of the kind of thinking that has led human civilization to the current reality of millions starving in the next few decades, due to the predictable environmental destruction of arable land in the near future.

They, and also this meme, make the mistake of equating fewer cars with no cars.

Cars can and do access pedestrians places, but when doing so reduce speed to a crawl. They can and do do this in order to pick up or drop off large objects, or when transporting the disabled.

The same way pedestrians can use roads, cars can access pedestrians places as long as they are built wide enough, when needed.

No part of building primarily for pedestrians use requires that cars never be used, it simply means you build based on the fact that the vast majority of the time, they aren't needed. And that as such, they should be a secondary, not the primary, consideration.

The sad thing is, the food isn't even that good.

By far the most appealing food is the stuff I make for myself, after learning exactly how to make something to meet my own preferences.

These foods might awaken all kinds of cravings, but walking into the local grocer, nothing in there that's ready to eat, will actually leave me satisfied afterwards.

Food is literally just getting worse, even as it's designed to entice us into eating more than ever

This could work. "We only scan your shit with your permission" might placate enough people for them to not realise that to make that possibly at all, security has already been compromised, as required by law.

This does not alleviate the issues of the original proposal in any way whatsoever.
