EDIT: ah, me and Blaze were commenting at the same time, it seems.

Greats minds think alike

Yes, that's unfortunate. Lemmyverse is a very useful resource, if it is not maintained anymore, it would be detrimental 😔

Rust is a niche language

It's like starting a book club in Esperanto compared to English. Sure, Esperanto is supposedly a better language, but very few people know about it

I believe there is some work being done on an alternative code base written in python with flask it has lots of promise and i recon with a bit of extra work it might allow for mastodon integration into one server which would be cool af.

https://piefed.social/ ?

Otherwise, for Mastodon integration, there is mbin with https://kbin.run/ for instance

Why would they be paid for a software that can be used for free, to create larger servers than their owns, with completely separate communities they have nothing to say about?

Doesn't seem like a very effective strategy

I hate how reddit lies to you about if your post was actually posted on a subreddit

i posted a fairly obscure support request on an obscure sub and instead of just saying the post isn't live, etc etc, it'll fake-show me the post as #1 on the hot page of the sub, #1 on the new, but then if I open the sub in a private window it isn't there -- so it either wasn't approved at all, or hasn't been approved yet. why...

Shadowbans are really frustrating

Blaze ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Ah, that too, especially for new accounts

/r/France implemented a limit of 4 posts per day a while ago.

I'm actually surprised it wasn't the case on the UK one

Blaze ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Oh, interesting. I guess now it should probably be added back

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Thanks @SorteKanin and I think @OpenStars who made me realize not everyone was aware of this

I am curious: how did you even know to try that - is it written in the docs somewhere, or you just tried it and it worked?

Someone else told me this. Seems like it's kind of a secret Lemmy technique that is passed from person to person ha ha

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

I mean, I saw it on a post somewhere

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

This comment might answer your concern, but I'm not a scientist so I'll let you have a look: https://lemmy.world/comment/10548651

Spez? You might have heard about him around here

"It's like email. You can have an account on Gmail and still send emails to Outlook".

Edit: just saw that you mentioned email, so that's usually the easiest analogy.

About success stories, I don't have many, people I know IRL weren't interested in Reddit, so Lemmy is the same.

Blaze ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Definitely. People don't care what's behind. They just want an app or a website.

Blaze ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

complaining that reddit is too negative.

Isn't that a good thing?

I heard a lot of heavy Civ IV and V players criticize VI as being worse than those two (especially with mods), what is the general opinion on this?

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Damn, I knew I was missing someone!

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Nice, I'll update tomorrow with their birthday post!

Happy birthday!

Blaze OP ,

Oh, nice, I missed it because I was looking in the announcement community!

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Oh, you guys are back, that's nice!

Blaze OP ,

Interesting, seems pretty standard on my side. On which continent are you?

Pigeon lobby getting stronger every year

Blaze OP ,

Strange, I guess a large part of the userbase must be in NA too 🤔

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Which country is that ha ha

Blaze OP ,

They denied two requests, I'll follow up on the most recent one just because I'm curious.

Might be nothing indeed, we'll see.

Even if they restore the sub, this post would still evidence that they struggle to find moderators.

I updated the title to be a bit more accurate.

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

No idea, I don't follow that sub that closely

FYI, an update on the !fedigrow post on the !privacy community: https://lemm.ee/post/34088759?scrollToComments=true

Long story short, !privacy is a nice option, it even has more active users per week than the LW equivalent (376 vs 346)

Thanks!

Following the other post, which lemmy.ml communities don't have alternatives on other instances?

Following the other thread (550 upvotes and 366 comments at the moment: https://lemmy.world/post/16211417), one of the complaints that people had what that some communities only exist on lemmy.ml and don't have alternatives on other instances....

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Indeed, it is.

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Thanks!

And happy cake day to you!

They are always on r/RedditAlternatives steering people towards the Fediverse too, along with a few others. Unfortunately most people there are resistant, and the heavily leftist-leaning nature of the content here turns a lot of people away (many instances including reddthat.com do not block either hexbear.net or lemmygrad.ml by default for new users, so all those posts promoting literal violence against e.g. landlords show up immediately in their All feeds), but it is still awesome to see them trying!:-)

Yeah, some people there have the worst bad faith I've ever seen. Anyway, at least some other people can read the comments and learn about Lemmy.
