Yes, a lot of bug fixes, such as cross-posting now working on 0.19.4

Mothers’ care is central factor in animal, human longevity. In species where offspring survival depends on the longer-term presence of the mother, the species tends to evolve longer lives and a slower ( news.cornell.edu )

The relationship between mother and child may offer clues to the mystery of why humans live longer lives than expected for their size – and shed new light on what it means to be human....

Scientists have discovered that a type of white blood cell exists as a single large population of cells that move throughout the body looking for, and repairing, damaged tissue | Discovery of ‘new rul ( www.cam.ac.uk )

From the article: This overturns the traditional thinking that regulatory T cells exist as multiple specialist populations that are restricted to specific parts of the body. The finding has implications for the treatment of many different diseases – because almost all diseases and injuries trigger the body’s immune system....

The comment link works on other platforms (e.g. mbin) on top of Lemmy

"Moderation tools are nonexistent on here. It also eats up storage like crazy [...] The software is downright frustrating to work with" - Can any other instance admins relate to this?

After a year online the free speech-focused instance 'Burggit' is shutting down. Among other motivations, the admins point to grievances with the Lemmy software as one of the main reasons for shutting down the instance. In a first post asking about migrating to Sharkey, one of the admins states:...

I was around when a user when the CSAM attacks happened. That was crazy stuff, sorry you admins had to go through it.

Kbin.run runs mbin, the name is historical

Nice suggestion

To me it feels like a big drop in activity on Lemmy over the past 6 months? So the weekly and monthly post are being forgotten and some are letting standards slip.

Number of active users is more or less stable, but it definitely feels like some people left (at least temporarily) indeed.

Maybe people are just taking vacation.

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

The most active one hasn't been around for a month, so I'm a bit worried they might be gone.

But that's not an issue per se, someone else can take over

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Hello,

Good to see you are still around!

Happy cake day, and thank you for your work on Mbin!

Shout out to Piefed and its 75 monthly active users: https://piefed.fediverse.observer/dailystats

Negative. It was usually quoted by ActivityPub skeptics who were looking for a centralized solutions, "easier to use".

I was never aware of the numbers, I'm surprised how much smaller it is.

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Guess they never heard about emails

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

IMAP/POP3/SMTP are protocols, ActivityPub is a protocol too.

Are you pointing to something else?

Blaze OP ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

I'm really not sure what point you are trying to make.

Would I have said "Guess they never heard about Gmail and Outlook being federated", would that have been better according to you?

Good advice

Even when Beehaw will switch to another platform, it will probably stay compatible with Lemmy (the way Mbin is).

I personally blocked all politics and news communities, found much less bots and trolls since then.

Blaze ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

some of the other conservative ones

Which instances are conservatives? Genuinely asking, when people ask me if there are conservatives on lemmy my only example is !conservative

Blaze ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

It’s like the tiniest step that could possibly be done, and it leaves the ability for Lemmy.ml users to place comments in every post across the Fediverse too - unlike a bona fide instance block, although to my knowledge there are no major instances that actually defederates from them.

The fact that even Beehaw admins haven't defederated from them is probably an indication that their users are not that problematic.

Blaze ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

A reminder that this is not about Beehaw

We are on Beehaw, and you complained about the lack of instances defederating from Lemmy.ml.

Blaze ,
@Blaze@reddthat.com avatar

Indeed.

I just had the look, the most notorious one is burggit.moe, which is closing soon

My main argument about Rust being a niche language is how few contributors there are to the Lemmy codebase.

Mbin (PHP) has more spread across its contributors:

But maybe Rust isn't that niche, but the Fediverse apps and projects are niche themselves.

I guess Reddit and similar link aggregators are just much smaller than we all think they are.

I have been banned from Reddit now it's brought me here.

So ban me over my pro-Palestine stance and well the rule I broke was basically depicting child abuse/neglect. But that as well has me going cause it's like when it comes to the war how can it really be define as child abuse to show how the children of Palestine are suffering. Anyway I hate reddit so much right now and have even...

[META] Creating a new community is easy, but to get people on board, you need to create some content.

If you create a community, please try and populate it with content. I see a lot of new communities with 0-1 posts from the mod. That's not nearly enough to get people engaged - users are going to see that it's a ghost town and leave....

Just create a post about it

If you mean about getting it featured on LW, you should ask that to Lemmy.world admins
