From my understanding of this it means client side signing of actions would be supported?
It seems that accounts (actor objects) can now just be a static file hosted anywhere which lowers the bar for entry of self hosting.
Id love to see something about supporting .onion addresses when looking up this file would allow self hosted anonymous identity while not requiring support for a whole instance as a hidden service.
After a year online the free speech-focused instance 'Burggit' is shutting down. Among other motivations, the admins point to grievances with the Lemmy software as one of the main reasons for shutting down the instance. In a first post asking about migrating to Sharkey, one of the admins states:...
I have an old Brother laser printer that's been doing fine and doesn't need to be replaced, but it only supports USB. I believe there is some work being done on an alternative code base written in python with flask it has lots of promise and i recon with a bit of extra work it might allow for mastodon integration into one server which would be cool af.
Really want to get to the stage where an account is just a private key I hold and all federated services can work with a single username.
Imagine having a single username which is for all services.
I recommend u try one of those free online python programming learning things with inbuilt quizzes etc they tend to explain programming in a way that someone who doesnt program can understand better than a programmer ever can. Once u know how to program one language u pretry much know em all and are now completely incapable of describing thibgs without thinking about it as a programmatic proccess.
Cos if so why can I see a whole bunch of mod actions on the lemmy.ml mod-log but not here? If it doesn't how/why would any other instance respect a moderation action by another instance let alone know about it?
Thats not comforting. I checked the documentation and that seems to think its federated. I heard that .ml is selectively federating the modlog is that perhaps what's going on if so idk why its still effecting other instances?
The wife and I are getting older. We have been working for decades at this point. But we are too young to retire, and we had kids late. A user on the online forum 4chan has leaked a massive 270GB of data purportedly belonging to The New York Times. This leak includes what is claimed to be the source code for the newspaper’s digital operations.
Thats a lot of data but surly its not all their articles cos I'd very much like to train mixtral7x8b on it along with 4chan data and shir from the dark web. Surly there is a project where such a model is public and being trained on literally everything regardless of legality.
Do it defederate the bloody bastards. Admins are now banning people from all .ml communities for disagreeing on a different community. I believe some guy got banned from all .ml communities for posting things .ml didnt like about tianamin square.
Ive seen a bunch of people saying their software is riddled with malware or at least that their adobe master collection is. Is this true cos reddit has been losing its shit over this?
We invented multi bit models so we could get more accuracy since neural networks are based off human brains which are 1 bit models themselves. A 2 bit neuron is 4 times as capable as a 1 bit neuron but only double the size and power requirements. This whole thing sounds like bs to me. But then again maybe complexity is more efficient than per unit capability since thats the tradeoff.
Its the polarisation of the masses to the point they no longer wish to interact in a civil manner when disagreeing. I remember the days when u could talk to people who are fundamentally opposed to ur ideology and have a civil discussion. Now everyone jumps at the oppertunity to label everything as something awful without a single attempt to engage in good faith.
A purported leak of 2,500 pages of internal documentation from Google sheds light on how Search, the most powerful arbiter of the internet, operates....
We also need shareable blacklists if they federate as well then that would be ideal. Surly someone can write a community thats a bot that gives democracy to blocklists.
A big biometric security company in the UK, Facewatch, is in hot water after their facial recognition system caused a major snafu - the system wrongly identified a 19-year-old girl as a shoplifter.
If bits aren't same then i dont want it to tell me they are the same. And python just has one implementation for int and float.
I like python cos everything's an object i dont want different types of objects to evaluate the same they are fundamentally different objects is that not what u would expect?
So this is just a hit piece calling the guy a far right extremist. Do people not get wah im kidding means. Can he not discuss a firearm that has been associated with an organisation to the extent they wrote a fucking song about it.
The article brought in the whole uvadale thing have u seen what he said about that or just associating him cos he likes guns?
