It's not even that their results suck, per se, but they straight up ignore most of my search query and focus on one or two words only. Obviously that makes your search results suck.

What the fuck is this bullshit article? China gives subsidies for green tech? GOOD! And then they want the EU to stop is? See, this is why we can't have nice things. When we lay parched on our barren sun baked fields this is who we can thank.

TIL about Roko's Basilisk, a thought experiment considered by some to be an "information hazard" - a concept or idea that can cause you harm by you simply knowing/understanding it ( en.wikipedia.org )

Roko's basilisk is a thought experiment which states that an otherwise benevolent artificial superintelligence (AI) in the future would be incentivized to create a virtual reality simulation to torture anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to...

So, capitalism? If you don't participate you're screwed (tortured via poverty). So you have to work on the system: working for money, buying from companies (advancing the system), continuing the trend to make poor people suffer.

Of course the only difference is ignorance of capitalism doesn't make you safe from it. Although you can argue that societies that don't know about capitalism (at all, so no money) have no poverty.

Doesn't matter what is required if you buy things from aliexpress or similar sites. You can also buy poisonous kids toys there and no one bats an eye.

Obscure screw added so appliance cannot be disassembled ( lemmy.world )

Basic blender went bad (motor ran but spindle wasn't rotating). I wanted to disassemble to see if it could be repaired. Three of the four screws were Phillips head. I had to cut the casing open in order to discover why I couldn't unscrew the fourth. It was a slotted spanner.

Just a basic security screw. It's so kids (and people who don't know enough about repairing appliances to know about security screws) don't disassemble the dangerous machine.

‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services ( www.theguardian.com )

*What rights do you have to the digital movies, TV shows and music you buy online? That question was on the minds of Telstra TV Box Office customers this month after the company announced it would shut down the service in June. Customers were told that unless they moved over to another service, Fetch, they would no longer be...

I don't know which company I would trust developing my brain implant, but it sure as hell isn't Tesla. Their software and hardware history is less than stellar.

Leds bulbs are definitely made to be break in a few 1000 hours. They push them to their max specs so they don't last as long. But this way of course they sell more, no one wants to sell a bulb that lasts 10 years of continuous use.

Cars are like 5% of co2 emmisions. Until they ban dirty ship oil and curb industry emissions (world wide), nothing will change.

It's good but I'm hoping the posts mentioning Reddit will stop.
