I watched tons of anime. Now everything feels like a redo of something from years before and it’s hard to get into anything. I feel the same about movies.

stoly ,

People still do this and it was never a trend. It’s classical style.

stoly ,

I recently bought a nice hand machined metal one. It helps me focus when doing email

stoly ,

I’m 48 and just bought a fancy one from Etsy.

stoly ,

You looked nice and took pride in yourself. You should remember this time fondly.

stoly ,

Remember that nirvana came from a rural area.

stoly ,

Don’t kids still play them?

stoly ,

It was all on Netflix until the studios reinforced their evil.

Tesla is recalling its Cybertruck for the fourth time to fix problems with trim pieces that can come loose and front windshield wipers that can fail | The new recalls each affect over 11,000 trucks ( apnews.com )

The company says in the documents that the front windshield wiper motor controller can stop working because it’s getting too much electrical current. A wiper that fails can cut visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The Austin, Texas, company says it knows of no crashes or injuries caused by the problem....

Don’t forget PayPal. He almost ruined it until they kicked him out.

stoly ,

This is the Netflix argument again. Netflix was first to market and then other people reacted and innovated. Now everyone thinks that Netflix sucks. No different than Paypal.

stoly ,

And is that Netflix's fault? It's not--it's the fault of the others. You know this but went for a gotcha anyway. It's like winning is more important than persuading. Too bad.

stoly ,

This is definitely a "YOU" thing going on here, whatever it is.

stoly ,

lol and made it personal for the chef’s kiss display of insecurity

stoly ,

I've always avoided spoilers. To me, it seems that someone is displaying a lack of self control if they read/see them. Be patient and enjoy the thing when it's released, don't ruin it for yourself in advance.

I seem to recall that there was a game release over the past couple years where the players were angry that the game was what they saw in the spoilers. People actually ruined it for themselves and then got mad at the studio for not miraculously having new content that wasn't spoiled.

I have very nearly accidentally spoiled an episode or two of Doctor Who. I try to avoid any place that talks about the cool thing just before the cool thing comes out.

They do understand but think that they are playing the statistics. "It can't happen to me" is the mantra of many drivers.

Even Apple finally admits that 8GB RAM isn't enough ( www.xda-developers.com )

There were a number of exciting announcements from Apple at WWDC 2024, from macOS Sequoia to Apple Intelligence. However, a subtle addition to Xcode 16 — the development environment for Apple platforms, like iOS and macOS — is a feature called Predictive Code Completion. Unfortunately, if you bought into Apple's claim that...

Mac Mini is meant to be sort of the starter desktop. For higher end uses, they want you on the Mac Studio, an iMac, or a Mac Pro.

stoly ,

Sorry, boo, everyone wants to hate Apple these days. It's the Zeitgeist. Even if you say something reasonable or perhaps factual, the people are against you and will react violently.

stoly ,

You just have to watch your favorite tablet get slower year after year to understand that a lot of this is artificial. They could make applications that don't need those resources but would never do so.

stoly ,

Funny: knowing that you only get one shot, I bought 32GB of RAM for my Mac Mini like 1.5 years ago. I figured that it gave me the best shot of keeping it usable past 5 years.

stoly ,

This is pretty much it. People really just want to find reasons to hate Apple over the past 2 - 3 years. You're right, though, your Mac can run easily for 10+ years. You're good basically until the web browsers no longer support your OS version, which is more in the 12-15 year range.

stoly ,

People do like to downplay this, but SoC is the future. There's no way to get performance over a system bus anymore.

stoly ,

The unreasonable escalation of your response really makes you come across as exceedingly insecure.

stoly ,

What is the obsession with shitting on people’s choices?

As much as people want to act like they are better than they were, say, 100 years ago, it's not really true. Humans are really just advanced monkeys running around and very few can actually surpass that nature.

stoly ,

Funny that within one minute, they state the exact same problem.

stoly ,

I’d have expected this to happen years ago.

stoly ,

Back in the newsgroup days when only people who worked for a government agency or university had access, it was all very nice. It's once the general public got in that every thing went to shit. Suddenly everyone could create their own fiefdom from which to project their internal insecurity.

stoly ,

I manage computing for a large university. One of my recently graduated students told me that he thought that technology just worked until he worked for me and saw the problems that come up. He was already a very tech-aware person and is going for a PhD in Infomatics, so if even he didn't understand this, then what can we expect from the general public?

stoly ,

And some of the engineering types are busy kissing the feet of people like Altman and Musk so they don't get a chance to even notice.

stoly ,

Magnesium for me. I don’t know why but it makes my brain work better. I feel horribly anxious, depressed, and intolerant of others when I forget to take it for more than three days or so.

stoly ,

It changed my life, seriously. I mentioned it to my doctor with one of her residents present. The resident had recently finished a psych rotation and said that she learned that most people are deficient.

stoly ,

NOW brand Magnesium Citrate, 200mg. From experience, NOW is one of those few brands you can trust.

stoly ,

My previous office was in a set of partitions put up in a library 20 years ago as a temporary measure.

stoly ,

Media definitely focused on this stuff right now.

stoly ,

It’s always people without seatbelts. I don’t get why people are so lax.

stoly ,

The seatbelt sign only means that you are not allowed to stand up. They also tell you to keep the belt on at all times.

stoly ,

How’s that different than anything else that someone operates?

stoly ,

I don’t see the problem. People can go faster without polluting. That’s a good thing. You can get a lot more people on the road safely this way.

stoly ,

Yeah this is the one that made me finally go “really Biden ?”

stoly ,

This conflict has been manufactured over a period of decades. Everyone but Palestine gets something out of it.

Republican bill aims to give Americans in Israeli military same benefits as US soldiers ( www.middleeasteye.net )

Two Republican congressmen have introduced legislation that would provide the same employment and economic protections to Americans serving in the Israeli military as US citizens who get deployed to serve in the US military....

stoly ,

Actually there are tons of exchange and cross training events with militaries from other countries. Pick any member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and look up their awards on Wikipedia. You’ll find that they carry medals and ribbons from all over the world as their careers developed.

stoly ,

Entitlement. They’ve gotten away with it for decades. They haven’t changed, the world changed around them.

stoly ,

For me the real problem is that they were too short sighted to take advantage and make tons of money off of tourists.

stoly ,

Most of the world is wide open my dude. You fill out the paperwork and register in the right places and you’re set. The US treats it like a mixture of war and prison.

stoly ,

This pope is pretty stand out. Previous one was an idiot.

stoly ,

You’re racist too. Gotcha.

stoly ,

Because eventually you will be old and sick. It’s short sighted not to consider that.
