yeah

fossphi ,

That tumblr screenshot on the top hits so close, it's really dejecting

fossphi ,

Third day in a row, let's freaking go. It's for science at this point

fossphi ,

No, that'd be too easy. We can't have that. Please buy new chips.

fossphi ,

That's interesting. I rewatch psych (as my comfort show) all the time and couldn't really think of anything egregious. Mind sharing which episodes?

fossphi ,

I'm not so sure. I talked to some people who knew about threads, a couple even had accounts. These are not tech oriented people. Moreover, I quite often see memes/screenshots of bluesky posts right here.

Make of that what you will. I have no numbers or anything, but it seems like they're not as dead as we might think.

fossphi ,

Oh that's a shame. I used that website a lot to find active communities across instances

fossphi ,

You can use rclone to mount your mega drive like a regular folder. Works like a charm. It's a FLOSS command line utility

fossphi ,

Please do not resist, it's for your own safety.

fossphi ,

Can not reproduce with stock Breeze theme on Arch

fossphi ,

It's the complete loss of control which panics me. It's quite understandable that people also get anxious over maybe forgetting to remove stuff (from their bags which the security wouldn't let through) or rechecking if they've everything. Because if not, you have to run around a lot and potentially miss your very expensive flight with likely no monetary compensation

fossphi ,

Wouldn't jump into a running vehicle. But wouldn't try to try to climb up a cliff

Introducing brand new world's first phone with 1 year 2 weeks and 4 hours warranty. And it's got electrolytes!

Shower thoughts are wasting water.

My city is in the middle of the worst drought in recorded history. My showers are typically under 2 minutes and I have to shower with a bucket to catch otherwise wasted water to use to flush the toilet. I also shut the water down when I am wet enough so I can scrub myself without having unneeded water flowing then start it...

fossphi ,

Welp, I'm going to bed now. Would be interesting to have an amputation in a dream. Let's see

fossphi , (edited )

I like fediverse for its plethora of optionsto curate one's feed. Please just block the stuff that you don't want to see

fossphi ,

Again, you can very easily block content/users/communities/instances which bother you

fossphi ,

Is that really necessary here?

fossphi ,

I have a cheap logitech mouse with a non working middle click, too

fossphi ,

Guys, my appointment day is coming. Once again I thought that this time would be different and I'd be ready...

fossphi ,

Did you manage to go?

fossphi ,

Nice! That's usually how it ends up for me too. Enjoyable, but the activation energy is insane.

Unfortunately this time, the appointment isn't a fun one, but it's a work thing. I need to present something and I had a couple months to prepare but I did jack. And now it's in a week

fossphi ,

I don't think I can get an extension. And to be honest, a part of me know that I probably can crunch/grind and finish it in time. I just hate myself for half assing and doing the bare minimum again instead of actually doing it properly

fossphi ,

I too listen to the Linux after dark podcast

fossphi ,

Maybe it's not as essential as one is led to believe. The book Debt by David Graeber deals with the very question you asked. I highly recommend you check it out.

I can't really summarise it well since I haven't finished it myself, so maybe peruse the Wikipedia entry. But the first couple of chapters try to answer your question

fossphi ,

I think it's a play on the chord being a minor?
How to finger a minor

fossphi ,

So people know how expensive a computer is at the address. What could go wrong

fossphi ,

The disclaimer at the end of your comment doesn't render properly. At least, on Thunder

fossphi ,

I don't think this meme is like that. Just seems to be some funny harmless dad humour type banter

fossphi ,

I use the wayland session on an Intel machine with no dedicated GPU, works flawlessly for me.

fossphi ,

It's such a sadness, it was so useful and (kinda) decently organised. I don't wanna go looking to shady telegram groups and stuff. And they're not indexable by search engines!

fossphi ,

Shell and python scripts are also code which is executed. HTML (at least back in the day) wasn't really a network shipped executable, but more like markdown file which is just parsed and rendered

fossphi ,

I really don't think so.

For the sake of simplicity, let's go back to the time when websites were not full of JS and other modern web stuff

You could in principle just wget the html file from a server and parse/render it without having to run that file. Like I said, it is like a simple markdown file.

In terms of modern web, a crude analogy would be to look at the output from static site generators. In those, the server essentially doesn't execute code, hence a lot of cloud providers can host your static sites for free

fossphi ,

As long as I'm not inconvenienced, you can keep doing your protests

fossphi ,

So can I write my own implementation and talk to other people via rcs? If not, then I don't think it deserves being called an open standard
