I don’t know what I’m doing, either.

I do a fair amount of boosting which, for me, means “this post has value”, so not necessarily that I agree with it.

Following is open, no worries if you dip in and dip out. I tend to wait to follow until I’ve interacted with you a bit first.

@actuallyautistic Do y'all know if it's an autistic trait to be super skeptical of stuff? Like, for example, my parents watch some questionable "health" people on YouTube, and when they show me a video from said people, I can tell IMMEDIATELY that they are grifters in it for money. Idk what gives it away but it's like a flashing warning sign in my brain.

I wonder if it has to do with social influence and the effects of charisma/agreeableness that NDs might not fall for.

@AutumnWitch @chevalier26 @actuallyautistic Joke’s on you, advertisers! My card’s in my wallet and wallet is in my pants in the laundry basket because I forgot to switch stuff over into new pants so good luck getting any dough from me anytime soon!

@chevalier26 @actuallyautistic It can be easier to reject someone trying to schmooze you when you’ve grown up knowing you are Weird and therefore Unworthy before you had a word or diagnosis for it so if someone’s trying to be nice to you, it’s because they want something.

@maggiejk @AutumnWitch @chevalier26 @actuallyautistic Ditto that; half the time, by the time I get there, I’ve talked myself out of it.

The other half it’s like “eh it’s only $10, that’s fine” which, if you pull that shit multiple times a week, becomes Not Fine real quick!

I sometimes thought my father thought he could't die while he still had books on his pending pile (a stab at immortality I seem to be replicating)... so, it was strangely touching to see Tom Gauld has had similar thoughts.

@ChrisMayLA6 @bookstodon 4th panel: Cut to the library circulation desk.
Librarian: “No, the card doesn’t work, but they’ve been returning books in a timely manner and the deathly chill as they pass by is a nice break from the stuffy shelves in summer, so we’re fine with it.”

If you've ever wondered what it's like being autistic with ADHD, it's a bit like this for me. (I always assumed everybody thought like this).

@Richard_Littler @actuallyautistic Also if you hyperfocus on trying to hear them, it’s like reading a ransom letter with magazine text cut out: each word is eyecatching but it’s fricking exhausting to read a single sentence, and good luck actually parsing it!

@paninid @histodons “Did you know that Romans used a sponge on a stick after pooping?”
“…and what will the lady be having this evening?”
    “The check.”
    “You haven’t ordered anything…?”
