My brain actually computes it first as 7 + 5 = 12 + 1 = 13.
I add 5s together a lot at my work (14, 19, 24... 63, 68, 73....) hard to explain why, but my brain jumps to 5s very easily for addition because of it.
12 is a great number isn't it. I remember one especially boring job I had for a while I would spend large amounts of time counting in base 12 on my fingers (using my thumb to tap the three segments of my four opposing fingers) into the thousands and start over.
Definitely. Deserts can have incredible biodiversity. A lot of species of cactus, sedges, euphorbia, composite flowers, wrens, songbirds, the list goes on.
Barren deserts probably are so destitute and lacking in humidity that practically nothing can grow there.
Not the first time this week an article written in that archaic newsspeak style confused the shit out of me. "Journalist shot in 2020 protests dying from injuries."
So, are they protesting the idea of dying of injuries? Are they dying of injuries incurred in the protests from back then? A simple "is" would have clarified everything but can't have articles in our article headers!
A YouTube channel that discusses Missing 411 style content: people disappearing under mysterious circumstances.
A running theme in their show is that overwhelmingly the RCMP are criminally negligent in their duties, are very quick to write off missing persons as runaways, do absolute garbage tier investigation, and that's where my comment came from.
I find Germans have an easier time replying to things very frankly and without garnishment or humor. I can ask a German, "How are you?", and he may reply with "I'm fine" and it can be taken at face value.
Americans tend to be more, I don't know, conflict avoidant in their replies? There's more expectation of subtext, of irony, and it's not as typical to take "I'm fine" at face value.
"Can't complain" is another good one. It's often heard as, "I can't complain [because nobody would listen anyway]". Tone is important, as is environmental context. Blue collar workers at the site say this, yeah their day is going to shit. Your buddy says it over drinks, maybe he's having a neutral, normal time of life, or maybe his life is going to shit and he's giving the ironic answer to avoid diving into his real issues, while still communicating that things are not perfect.
Last week I was asked how my day was. It had been a perfectly normal, decent day, good time at work, beautiful weather, and my reply was "Life's a peach". I got back, "That bad, huh?" Yeah, the American habit of taking genuine expression and searching for a darkness under it can be tiring sometimes.
There is a lake on Victoria Island in the arctic archipelago that I am reasonably sure has never been seen by a real person, and it is unnamed. Furthermore, the lake has a small island on it. One of my life's goals is to see this lake and island someday.
The lady across the street from us used to own a small dog, I think it passed and she recently got an XL bully. She struggles to walk it, always looks angry with the dog, it's always barking and glaring at me and my family. I have been carrying my gun more recently because I'm waiting for the day that dog decides to try to make a meal out of my two-year-old.
Why are dognuts the way they are? Just get a fucking pom.
To claim that it's entirely environmental is to flaunt longstanding understanding on how genetics works. Nobody looks at border collies, with their high intelligence, and say "oh it's just environment", or chihuahuas being territorial little shits and say "oh it's just environment". These dogs were ENGINEERED to be this way, it's in their bones.
Pitbulls have been specifically bred for their toughness, their aggression, their locking jaw, and because you happened to get a couple good ones doesn't invalidate the fact that they are statistically one of the most dangerous breeds to own.
Not true, it specifically states in the article that, for example, one user had over 300 photos reappear, "some of which were revealing". This is obviously not great but it isn't likely as scandalous as it's being made out to be.
There's so much misinformation online, sure it could have been a joke but it's so easy to just be lazy, read the comment straight and move on acting like there's some kind of operation going on at Apple stealing your nudes. I don't really care if it's a joke or not, and you're not even the OP so who are you to say it's for a fact a joke?
Oh look, another article pointing the finger at the meager consumption habits of citizens and completely ignoring the massive ocean of CO2 production by large companies.
Don't people get tired of seeing this same argument being made? The amount of carbon produced by barges carrying cargo over the Atlantic so far greatly exceeds the consumption of many millions of people every single day but I'm supposed to feel guilty for eating a piece of steak today instead of some semi-edible "impossible meat" bug protein?
ETA: Nice, my first blowup since leaving reddit. Very refreshing to see some people arguing passionately. I appreciate the vigor and the quality of argumentation, everybody. The quality of discourse here is so much better than on reddit.
I'm willing to admit the "semi edible impossible meat bug protein" gamut was a bit tongue in cheek, but I recognize how it can sound genuine. I do think Impossible Meat is disgusting, but that's neither here nor there.
I eat plenty of plant matter and I regularly forage in the local forests to learn about edible plants. But I'm not going to stop enjoying steak just because it might put a bit more CO2 (why do people keep writing it as C02 online?) into the atmosphere. If removing subsidies and putting more pressure on the meat industry to be less wasteful, less environmentally impactful and more ethical towards animals causes steak to rise to $40/lb as some here have stated I'll gladly pay.
FWIW, I get my steak from local farms that are free range and grass fed. Grass feeding is healthier for the cow than the typical grain, it produces less CO2 and the steak is better quality. Plus the cows are better taken care of. Again, thanks for the great messages (generally).
I tried to explain ADHD math to someone and they didn't understand at all
Edit: it appears that this is not exclusive to ADHD....
