EXCLUSIVE: “You Have Been Warned”: Republican Senators Threaten the ICC Prosecutor over Possible Israel Arrest Warrants ( zeteo.com )

A group of influential Republican senators has sent a letter to International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan, warning him not to issue international arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, and threatening him with “severe sanctions” if he does so....

France has quite a few W moments recently

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

As a European, I find it insane to have an app that warns you about gunshots, like wtf

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

True

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah I know, but god damn just getting a notification about gunshots is fucking crazy

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I know about cell broadcast, it's common in many countries. But where the fuck do you live that you get so many alerts?

You can find a backup of Yuzu (and other stuff like Ryujinx or Dolphin in case it gets taken down at some point) on Suyu's Forgejo (the same software that's used by Codeberg) instance: https://git.suyu.dev/yuzu-emu/yuzu

It’s also available via Tor as an onion site: http://suyudev2qxj5x7mroamgwf4hqunz4pups27z2kl77x4ioqhh5yhpshad.onion/

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

They should really switch to Mastodon and host their own instance, just like the German public broadcast service: ard.social

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Btw I just realized that the BBC and NPR are also experimenting with Mastodon, the BBC even has their own instance: https://social.bbc/about

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Damn, didn't realize that. That's pretty unfortunate.

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I never use the YouTube channels to watch their content, I prefer to watch that stuff right from the ARD/ZDF media library using an open-source application called MediathekView (GitHub). There's also a web version.

3.5mm jacks don’t cost much materially

They take up quite a lot of space (for a phone) that could otherwise be used for a larger battery. I'll happily take a few hundred mAh of battery life over a headphone jack. I find bluetooth headphones much more comfortable to use anyway. But I understand that some people prefer wired headphones.

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

By removing the headphone jack and saving space, everything can be laid out in a way that creates more room for a larger battery, many manufacturers do this.

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Just look at the inside any modern smartphone, it's full of battery and other stuff, basically no empty space. The iPhone 7 was the first generation without a headphone jack, it still used the old case design though. Look at the iPhone X which was completely redesigned, it's just marginally larger than the iPhone 6/6s/7/8 (they all use the same case design) but has a much larger battery. They went from 7.45Wh (1960mAh) on the iPhone 7
https://blogs-images.forbes.com/aarontilley/files/2016/09/inside-iphone-7-front-back-1200x801.png

to 10.35Wh (2716mAh) on the iPhone X. https://news-cdn.softpedia.com/images/news2/ifixit-teardown-reveals-what-s-inside-the-iphone-x-518369-3.jpg

@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

No. Most of the iPad lineup uses LCD displays which are relatively thick. The headphone jack only fits in old iPads, because of the large bezels. On newer iPads, the headphone jack would need to go under the display, making the entire device much thicker. With OLED, you don't have this problem, but Apple either uses LCD or Mini-LED for iPads.

Germany had enforced a Schengen-wide ban on his entry to Europe

Why the fuck is this even possible? One country shouldn't be able to decide over all of Europe, what the hell

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

And you know what's the worst thing: The opposition is even worse. Friedrich Merz is basically German Donald Trump and the AfD with people like Björn Höcke is just the spiritual successor to the NSDAP

Unfortunately there are websites that try to detect vpns and block you. Fuck those websites. Don’t encourage them by giving them eyeballs or money.

It's mostly CDNs like Cloudflare and Akamai that are notorious for blocking VPN and Tor users. Fuck CDNs, they destroy privacy and centralize the internet.

If you don't need to log in, I would recommend a private frontend like Redlib (fork of Libreddit) together with the LibRedirect browser extension

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Redlib works perfectly, I think they use IPv6 address rotation to evade IP bans

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The official instance is hosted at https://redlib.matthew.science

It’s already broken.

Their server is down, but I haven't seen a Redlib instance get blocked by Reddit. Try another instance like safereddit.com or check out the entire list of instances: https://github.com/redlib-org/redlib-instances/blob/main/instances.md

LibRedirect should also automatically fetch the list and allow you to choose instances you like

Btw you can also use normal third-party clients with your custom developer API key, there's a patched version of Apollo for iOS/iPadOS (you can download it from AltStore using their custom repository, it's explained on the website) and ReVanced offers a patch for Infinity on Android. The patched Apollo version has a quick guide on how to get an API Key, it works with all apps that support these custom keys though:

  1. Sign into your Reddit account and go to the link above (reddit.com/prefs/apps)
  2. Click the "are you a developer? create an app..." button
  3. Fill in the fields
    • Name: anything
    • Choose "Installed App"
    • Description: anything
    • About url: anything
    • Redirect uri: apollo://reddit-oauth
  4. Click "create app"
  5. After creating the app you'll get a client identifier which will be a bunch of random characters.

You're fine, it's basically just rebranded Mullvad VPN

But at that point, you can just cut out the middle man and use Mullvad directly, I think their clients are much better and offer more features. They also don't require your email address and you can pay anonymously with crypto.

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

IVPN and AirVPN are also very trustworthy and pretty popular in the privacy community

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It's owned by Kape Technologies, the same companies that owns other garbage VPN providers like CyberGhost and PIA

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That's not a VPN provider, just a protocol

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Ok that makes sense, but wtf I just realized that it's $10/month, Mullvad is 5€ which is $5.38 and they even give you a 10% discount if you pay with crypto

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

LibRedirect automates most of that for you. Also, I've been using safereddit.com for over 6 months and never had any issues. Just try it out and see if it works for you :)

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It fetches an updated list of working instances. It also has a built-in tool that let's you ping all instances and remove the broken ones. I'm pretty sure this will work well, even if you remove all instances except for safereddit.com. That's another way you can use it: Just find one working instance and remove all the others.

They claim not to save your chats and not to use them for improving the AI model. Using GPT-3.5 Turbo through DuckDuckGo is definitely better than using your phone number to sign up for an OpenAI account, so yes, I think it makes sense to use this. But ideally, you could just run an AI model offline on your own hardware, I recently saw a Lemmy comment that explains this very well: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/comment/10348570

You can also use @db0's AI Horde as explained here: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/comment/9295041

Unfortunately it's broken all the time because it gets IP-banned by Google. Perhaps they could implement something like the Invidious smart-ipv6-rotator to prevent this.

How can I use a local LLM on Linux to generate a long story?

I'm interested in automatically generating lengthy, coherent stories of 10,000+ words from a single prompt using an open source local large language model (LLM) on low-spec hardware like a laptop without GPU and with i5-8250U, 16GB DDR4-2400MHz. I came across the "Awesome-Story-Generation" repository which lists relevant papers...

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Sure, a userscript is one way of solving the issue. But native clients with built-in adblock are another, legitimate way of doing the exact same thing. I really don't understand your issue with FOSS YouTube clients like FreeTube, NewPipe and LibreTube.
