A right-wing dictator fighting another right-wing dictator. Kinda funny

It's GTK4, libadwaita is just their really weird theming stuff, but the UI toolkit is still called GTK, and version 4 of it forces you to use libadwaita. You can't change the theme, because Gnome is actually user-hostile.

That's because Cosmic is made by really cool people at System76 who actually care about their users/customers and the broader open source Linux desktop ecosystem

There's a proposal to make KDE the default in Fedora, I really hope this gets accepted.

If not, Fedora isn't that great anyway. Universal Blue-based distros like Bazzite or Aurora are much better nowadays.

Btw Suyu hosts a full backup of Yuzu (and other stuff like Ryujinx or Dolphin in case it gets taken down at some point) on their Forgejo instance

It's also available via Tor as an onion site: http://suyudev2qxj5x7mroamgwf4hqunz4pups27z2kl77x4ioqhh5yhpshad.onion/

The snapchat equivalent would be "Snapchat Spotlight"

4chan I guess. It doesn't have to be 4chan specifically, I just want a federated ActivityPub image board

I don't know, can't really describe it, but 4chan just has a different vibe. I love Lemmy, but it's closer to Reddit than to 4chan.

Or maybe I should say I wish the “existing platform” of my city government would start their own instance.

Both Germany and the EU have their own Mastodon instances for official announcements, social.bund.de and social.network.europa.eu

There's also an instance for the German public broadcasting service, ard.social

I wish more countries would do this

Ironically you can't use FreeBSD (or any BSD) to watch Netflix content. Even on Linux the resolution and bitrate get limited. What a fucking joke.

@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Fun fact: WhatsApp also used to run their servers on FreeBSD. Then Facebook bought them and now they use Linux.

Maybe try Redlib for accessing Reddit. You can also use LibRedirect to automatically redirect Reddit links.

Alternatively, use this guide to create a Cloudflare proxy for any website you want to visit that is blocked

Good. Honestly, great! The EU should do the same. Fuck the CCP and their propaganda machine that brainwashes people all over the world!

Would you teach your kids how to pirate?

My gf and I have had discussions about teaching morals to kids. In that vein, I asked myself, would I teach piracy to my kids? Yes, it’s technically illegal and carries inherent risks. But so does teenage sex carry the risks of teenage pregnancy, and so we have an obligation to children to teach them how to practice safe sex....

Absolutely. My entire network is behind a VPN, so they can't fuck up. Windows is banned in my household, so I'm not worried about malware. I'm not paying 20 bucks a month for limited access to the ever shrinking Netflix library, which I can't even use behind a VPN or share with other people. Piracy is the only way forward.

Rooting isn't recommended anyway, it completely destroys Android security. GrapheneOS is the best solution.

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I knew I would get a comment about this. Yes, I absolutely know that Linux is not at all immune to malware, but the chances of finding Linux malware on a typical piracy website are very low. That's why Anti-virus is unecessary on Linux.

Safest way of using WeChat

I live in Canada. My girlfriend is Chinese (also living in Canada), and while we are able to communicate via SMS, her mobile carrier isn't the best, and so there have often been issues for us with regular texting. She expressed a strong preference to use WeChat, at least as a backup option for when texting fails us. While I...

Basically 2 options: A work profile or a separate Android user profile. I'd definitely recommend the latter, as it has much stronger isolation. Some vendors like Samsung disable user profile support though. A work profile is still better than nothing.

Probably not the solution that you are looking for, but maybe try Signal? It's better than SMS, WeChat, WhatsApp and most other messengers. Unlike stuff like WhatsApp and SMS, Signal can even be used in China, because it has a built-in censorship circumvention system which uses special TLS proxies or can even be used over Tor.

Andromxda ,
@Andromxda@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

This feature only exists, because the people behind Signal actually care about freedom and want to help their users. Unlike WeChat, Signal is not built by any government to spy on people, and unlike commercial messengers like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, it's not built by a corporation that wants to extract money from their users by selling their data. It's a non-profit organization, created by people who are dedicated to make the world more private and secure. Just keep that in mind when choosing a messaging app.
