Thunder because I think it has the most features, the UI is designed pretty well and I like the user experience it offers. They are working on amazing new features like notifications over UnifiedPush and moderation tools (I think no other app has mod tools). It's completely free and open-source and available on F-Droid via the IzzyOnDroid repository. And unlike Sync, it doesn't have ads.
I recently also learned that it's one of the few open-source (and still actively maintained and developed) Lemmy apps, which is quite sad. I don't understand why so many folks use proprietary apps like Litoff, Summit, Connect, Boost or Sync. Sync is especially bad, because it has ads and trackers.
I tried Jerboa before I switched to Thunder and hated it, it just feels like an incomplete and buggy mess with poor UI/UX.
Without uBlock Origin? Not really. Not Firefox's fault, the internet just transformed into a massive ad-infested shithole, but still, it's unusable without an adblocker.
I stumbled across this today and thought it was worth sharing. I have used every one of these ROMs except /e/ and they are all good projects in their own right.
Even though this question has probably been asked countless times in other communities, I still want to know: what tool do you think comes closest to ShareX? I'm particularly interested in features like image capture, video recording, GIF creation, and OCR reading all in one tool for Linux.
I wanna make some games but idk where to start. Thinking of gbstudio but the hardware limits would make making a card game hard, any other easy tools? Is there a gbstudio eqivament for 16-32 bit systems?
Visual Studio is meant for C/C++/C#, IntelliJ is made for Java (as the name might suggest). JetBrains has IDEs for C (CLion) and C# (Rider) though. All JetBrains IDEs are available for Linux. Visual Studio isn't, Visual Studio Code is. I recommend using an optimized version of Visual Studio Code called VSCodium.
And Microsoft really sucks at naming things. Windows 10 wasn't the 10th Windows version, the Xbox One wasn't the first Xbox, there are many more examples.
It's very different from Windows, and thus harder to learn for new users. Linux Mint (which uses Cinnamon) is basically made for Windows users, it has a more familiar interface and is easier to learn how to use. My personal favorite is KDE, it is also quite similar to Windows but allows for unlimited user customization. It follows the concept "Simple by default, powerful when needed", which in my opinion is a good representation of the entire Linux ecosystem. Pop!_OS is not the stock GNOME experience, in fact, it's quite different. It adds some functionality and changes how GNOME works. It's better than normal GNOME, but not perfect.
Bluefin is based on uBlue, which is based on Fedora Silverblue. It's really cool because there's a special version of it that's optimized for the Surface.

In Germany, there is a conservative/far-right party that actually sees things that way. The AfD, the self-proclaimed "Alternative for Germany" (literally the spiritual successor to the NSDAP, the party of Adolf Hitler) once posted this picture on Facebook: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/pictrs/image/210a79d6-c21d-4968-be2e-17fae6138f16.png
It shows a map of Germany, divided in two parts. The east, where the AfD has many supporters labeled as the Federal Republic of Germany, and the West where the AfD has been losing many elections labeled as an islamic Caliphate. These Nazis actually think that half of Germany is controlled by migrants and islamists. This insane view of the world is so fucked up, I can't really describe it.
Fun fact: An AfD member of the German parliament has been caught accepting large sums of money from Russia. Their MPs repeatedly traveled to Russia during the invasion of Ukraine, including the illegally annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. They also think that Russian elections are totally legit and Putin the war criminal has been legitimately elected by the Russian people. Their MPs also work for the Chinese intelligence service btw: https://lemmy.world/post/15121591
You. don't. need. a. dumb. phone. to fix your social media addiction
Basically every modern smartphone has features that allow you to restrict your usage of distracting apps/websites. You can recreate a minimalistic dumb phone on your smartphone using free & open source software or your operating system's built-in tools/features. There are a few good videos about this:
I understand why, but dumbphones aren't good solutions for most people's problems. They have many disadvantages, for example they don't offer secure (encrypted) communications (except for the Punkt MP02 which has Signal support, but it also has other issues), you don't get a proper keyboard, no touchscreen, and you often can't even look something up on Wikipedia. You can't listen to music/podcasts, use the phone for navigation or take notes. Most people just end up getting frustrated by a dumb phone, and switch back to a smartphone and continue wasting their time on social media. A decluttered smart phone with restrictions for social media usage is much more effective. The videos I linked in my original comment explain this pretty well.
I've been to Chicago once (visiting a family member), it's absolutely crazy. I could never even imagine living like that. Never before in my life have I been genuinely scared that if I left the house at night, I wouldn't come back alive.
It's pretty normal during the day, but at night, once you hear gunshots a few blocks away, I would really avoid going out. I've never seen something like this before.
Anyone else think the play store has had such a constant decline to the point where you can barely find an app without being flooded with ads. I pretty much only use f droid at this point because the quality of apps is just higher
As you said, F-Droid is the way to go. But if you want to browse the Play store without ads, use Aurora. It's an open-source client for Google play that doesn't show ads and doesn't even require you to log in with Google.
