“US took part in raid that murdered 210+ Palestinians in #Nuseirat, used ‘aid’ jetty: Israelis disguised trucks as aid delivery vehicles before killing hundreds of Palestinians and several Israeli captives, to free just four. #Biden silent on Palestinian victims as he praises Israel, but Israeli families slam Netanyahu”
“Israeli occupation troops were directly aided and abetted by US forces as they hid inside a fake ‘aid truck’ to launch the raid on Nuseirat refugee camp that killed hundreds of Palestinians. #US troops used the US-built supposed ‘aid’ jetty to provide support for the raid.
The Israelis also killed several of their own citizens in the assault and managed to free only four – who would certainly have been killed before they were ‘rescued’ if the Palestinians were interested in killing them. The Israelis paraded in front of the cameras appeared well fed and cared-for, in a territory where two million people are in famine.”
#Palestine / US House passes Republican bill to sanction International Criminal Court over Israel
the U.S. House of Representatives passed a Republican-backed bill aimed at sanctioning the ICC over its investigation into alleged war crimes committed by Israel in the Palestinian territories. The bill, which still needs to pass the Senate and be signed into law, has sparked controversy and raised concerns about the U.S. commitment to international justice.
Netanyahu’s Mafia State—by Haaretz Editorial
Netanyahu used Mossad to spy on #ICC and to threaten prosecutors.
The Natanyahu government also went after Haaretz. I will post a few articles from Haaretz in this thread. @israel@palestine
@yumna speaks with Hassan Ben Imran, a member of the Governing Council of Law for Palestine, about Palestinians' long effort to access international legal institutions and the impact of this development.
#US / Child of Famed Jewish Family Funded Pro-Palestinian Protests
A significant amount of funding for anti-war activist groups involved in recent campus protests in the U.S. has come from the #BafrayungFund, controlled by Rachel Gelman, a 33-year-old from a prominent Jewish-American family.
The most revealing aspect of this story is the involvement of the Israeli-funded 'Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy.' Insisting that criticism of Israel's policies equates to antisemitism is a flawed tactic that will inevitably backfire. Labeling anti-war protests as merely "pro-Palestinian" or "anti-Israel" is a pathetic tool to dismiss their motivations, especially in light of the #ICJ and #ICC findings.
#ICC / Israeli Mossad chief threatened ICC prosecutor over war crimes inquiry
[…] "You don't want to be getting into things that could compromise your security or that of your family."
The allegations detailed in the Guardian paint a troubling picture of alleged intimidation tactics and excessive pressure applied by Israeli intelligence against an ICC prosecutor.
Cohen's covert contacts with Bensouda took place over several years leading up to her 2021 decision to open a formal #ICC investigation into alleged Israeli war crimes.
A close ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Cohen personally led the #Mossad's efforts as part of a decade-long campaign by Israel to undermine the ICC probe.
The efforts escalated in 2019-2020 with Cohen allegedly showing Bensouda photos of her husband taken covertly and suggesting the ICC probe would hurt her career.
[…] Another Israeli source briefed on the operation against Bensouda said the Mossad’s objective was to compromise the prosecutor or enlist her as someone who would cooperate with Israel’s demands.
[cont’d] Ex-Mossad chief ‘disappointed’ over alleged threats against ICC prosecutor
Upholding the rule of law and complimentarity 🤔 … A little bit more about Israel’s kosher-nostra (originally Eastern European Jewish mobs of North America):
[…] “There are things that spy agencies do not do, […] Things that they won’t do, and that are forbidden for them to do. And this is one of them. I don’t want to think that anyone who works for the organisation in which I served for 36 years, let alone a person who headed it, was involved in the event that was described in the media.”
#Spain and #Ireland are the largest and most politically influential #EU nations to recognize Palestinian statehood, joining a few other European countries that have already done so.
While largely symbolic, the three nations hope their move will gather momentum and spur more EU countries to follow suit. The #UK, #Australia and some other EU states have indicated they could also recognize Palestinian statehood. However, #France said now is not the right time, while #Germany sided with the #US in rejecting a unilateral approach, insisting dialogue is needed for a two-state solution (the model, the Oslo accords, favored Israel and the status quo at the expense of Palestinian right for self-determination).
@Alexandrad1 sure... he could have just be specific and say that...
Especially now that ICC, ICJ indicated what they think of Israel's actions, and the investigation into Israel's criminal authoritative operation to threaten the #ICC has been exposed by the Guardian (+972 and Local Call).
What's left to doubt about the fact that Israel is not interested in peace rather a continued conflict, especially armed, which it can call terrorism and maintain/expand the occupation....
#icc vs #icj
"The ICC considers cases against individuals and as such has to be distinguished from the International Court of Justice, which rules on disputes between states, such as the case brought by South Africa against Israel in January 2024 under the 1948 Genocide Convention."
#Palestine / Norway, along with Ireland and Spain, to recognize Palestinian state (to be followed by Slovenia and Malta)
With over 140 UN member states now recognizing Palestine, the wave of European support signals growing impatience with the stalled peace process and a willingness to challenge U.S.-backed insistence on direct negotiations favoring Israel's position.
[...] "In the middle of a war, with tens of thousands of dead and injured, we must keep alive the only thing that can provide a safe home for both Israelis and Palestinians: two states that can live in peace with each other," --- Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere (#Norway)
Israel swiftly condemned the move, recalling its ambassadors from Norway and Ireland, and warning of "dire consequences" if Spain follows through. The Israeli Foreign Minister accused the countries of "undercutting Israel's sovereignty and endangering its security."
The #ICC can issue for signatories countries an arrest warrant on #Netanyahu because it has jurisdiction over international crimes committed in #Palestine since 2012
BUT
If #Israel doesn't recognise the #ICC, its territory isn't included in the jurisdiction, and the crimes of Hamas where carried out there, then how can the #ICC issue a legally binding arrest warrant on Hamas leaders?
Thank you very much for the screenshot. The paragraph b) is undeniably clear and my question is solved 😎
The #ICC recognises Palestina as a State and, hence, it can issue an arrest warrant on Hamas leaders independently where did they committed the crimes👏
#ICC / Prosecutor asks for arrest warrants for three leading Hamas leaders, as well ass Netanyahu and Galant
[...] The office of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court on Monday said it was seeking arrest warrants against three leading Hamas militants for their alleged roles in the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Watch: ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan explains the charges against top Hamas and Israeli leadership in detail in this excerpt from his interview with @amanpour this morning at The Hague
The ICC prosecutor's bold move has ignited a geopolitical firestorm pitting international legal accountability against national sovereignty claims and U.S./Israeli opposition to prosecuting their leaders. It is a pivotal juncture for the ICC's credibility.
Like Trump’s 2020 sanctions over the ICC's attempts to prosecute U.S. personnel in Afghanistan, self proclaimed leader of the “Free World” (meant to designate countries aligned with democracy, capitalism and human rights 🤔 during the Cold War era) #Biden has signaled it will back Congressional efforts to sanction the ICC for doing its job regarding Israel’s self evident war crimes in Gaza.
European allies like France, Germany, Spain, and Belgium voiced support for the ICC's independence, setting up tensions with the U.S. and Israel.
[cont'd] Attorney General and State Prosecutor in first statement against The Hague Prosecutor
"The State of Israel is a democratic state, fighting terrorism and defending its security while adhering to the binding legal rules and with a deep commitment to the law. The security forces, including the IDF, fight with full commitment to the rules of international law."
"The legal counsel to the government and the State Prosecutor's Office of the State of Israel thoroughly examine any serious allegation of violation of law by any Israeli state entity, and enforce the law. The judicial system in the State of Israel is prepared to examine any serious allegation, both regarding policy issues and regarding specific incidents. As the State of Israel has clarified over the years, the Court lacks any jurisdiction to conduct an investigation in this matter. In any case, the request at the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants against the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister is baseless."
A prime example of how the Israeli legal system whitewashes the crimes of its leaders and provides a facade of a functioning democracy with a robust and independent judicial system. Attorneys general have provided legal justifications, and military advocate generals have whitewashed these overt and well-documented actions for years now.
#UK / Defying PM, British Lawmakers From 11 Parties Want Solid Backing for ICC
A cross-party group of 105 MPs and peers (members of the House of Lords) in the UK sent a letter to the Foreign Secretary, urging the government to support the International Criminal Court (ICC). This comes after the British Prime Minister Rishi #Sunak criticized the #ICC's decision to seek arrest warrants for Israeli and #Hamas leaders as "deeply unhelpful."
In their letter, the MPs and peers from 11 different parties called on the government to clearly oppose any attempts to intimidate or undermine the independent and impartial ICC. They want the UK government to firmly back the ICC, despite the Prime Minister's criticism of its recent actions regarding Israeli and Hamas figures.
[cont’d] Hungary says ICC warrant against Israel's Netanyahu 'unacceptable'
[…] "It is wrong to use a court as a political tool, and it should not be forgotten what led to what is happening in Gaza, and that is a ruthless, dishonest and vile terrorist attack on Israel," he said.
How not even ironic coming from a Hungarian official, given their shared passion with Israel for undermining the judiciary and targeting NGOs and civil society. But hey, at least #Israel and #Netanyahu can count on the support of their neo-fascist pals.
#Israel on trial?
This is not what the #ICJ organises. Its role is to establish the law.
A halt of invasion?
In 2022, the ICJ issued a condemnation on the #Russia invasion, to no consequence.
Kate Ferguson: “Will it be enough to stem the tide of atrocity crimes? No, of course not.” https://www.kcl.ac.uk/people/dr-kate-ferguson@israel
"#Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, ran its own parallel operation which sought out compromising information on [the court’s preceeding chief prosecutor] Bensouda and her close family members in an apparent attempt to sabotage the ICC’s investigation. The agency’s former head, Yossi Cohen, personally attempted to “enlist” Bensouda and manipulate her into complying with Israel’s wishes […] causing the then-prosecutor to fear for her personal safety."
