I was originally unimpressed with #Evil but then it went from "sorta creepy but formulaic" to "I have no idea wtf to expect from this show" and I gotta say, it's definitely growing on me.
And a guest star from Wickie (Renée Elise Goldsberry of Girls 5eva) didn't hurt it, either.
I've got some audiobook credits before I cancel my account (just not worth it when the #library is there 🥰). Could someone recommend some good audiobooks?
What I am looking for:
✔️Cozy mysteries or cozy horror
✔️If romance, nothing 🌶️ because I can't listen to sex scenes being narrated to me without giggling like a middle schooler.
✔️Female main character = bonus
✔️POC protagonist = bonus
✔️YA or New Adult recs okay
A year or so later, I got it as an Audiobook and am amazed at the level of depth and understanding of the characters, the setting of 1900 New York City, and the writer's ability to get inside the minds of a Jinni, a creature of Fire born in the desert, and the Golem, a creature of clay built to serve her master, able to read minds and desires of those around her with the strength of 10 men.
I'm excited to learn there's a sequel. Thanks for that.
@mvilain@SallyStrange@himantra@bookstodon@horror Yes! Both The Golem and the Jinni, and its sequel are wonderful "Must Own The Print Copy" books for me. The stories deal with some tough subjects at times, but with so much compassion that they are a pleasure to read.
Happy #Pride!
(I still haven't decided if I agree with this theory- I need to watch this again, either way- but I have zero problem with it and it DOES make a lot of sense...)
@KentuckyConjurer@stina_marie@horror@horrorfilm nah they're just goofy buddies. I have watched it a million times. But yeah if people want to think of them as a couple that's fine with me!
I watched Abigail last night and I feel like this has been done before. The titles escape me at the moment but I have seen more than one movie where kidnappers end up finding out that it's not really a child they are holding for ransom. @horror
@KentuckyConjurer@horror yes! I was thinking it might have been like an old episode of Tales From The Darkside or Tales From The Crypt but I think you are right that it was an anthology movie not a tv series
Nostalgia is a plague, especially when the people pushing it either remember it incorrectly or weren't even alive to see it...
Feel free to bring back the 90's in makeup and fashion, though: my eyebrows will thank you and I can continue to just wear what's already in my closet, only now I won't be an outlier 😂
📣 🚨 PSA for anyone who didn't know/realize: this is a Twilight Zone-esque #horror anthology from the Indonesian director that made IMPETIGORE, SATAN'S SLAVES, & SATAN'S SLAVES: COMMUNION
I've watched one so far & it was entertaining with some cool imagery & creatures. But even if these wind up being uneven and lacking, you DEFINITELY should check out his movies (on #Shudder) because they are FANTASTIC
I'm watching a 1989 Skinemax vampire movie I thought was the height of sexiness and romance in high school and, holy shit, the love interest has the most ridiculous mullet. Like, straight-up Nic Cage Con Air hair but w/ teased bangs. I keep getting the giggles 😆
I loathed The Lodge but thought Goodnight Mommy did a good job of being tense AF. I hope they do way better adapting this than Shyamalan did with Paul's last film.
@ElizabethLeeCo@horror@horrorfilm Haven't seen "The Lodge", but really enjoyed "Goodnight Mommy" (glad, that we got a good Austrian Horrormovie!), so I'm excited, what they'll do with "A head full of ghosts". It's my favourite Tremblay novel! 😍
I'll probably get a thinner mat at some so it doesn't cut off as much of the art but I lurve it so much. Also, please ignore my wonky photograph skills...I was trying not to be reflected in the glass 😆.
Eight-year-old Bela is the only child in a dysfunctional family full of secrets. Bela has also been keeping her own secret from Mommy and Daddo. She's been talking to an entity that hides in her closet. Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman brought back all of my childhood nightmares. I had to step away from this book more than once because it was scaring me. My review is posted at https://wellwortharead.blogspot.com/2024/05/incidents-around-house-by-josh-malerman.html#horror@horror@horrorbooks
@Well_Worth_A_Read@horror@horrorbooks I am not happy about it triggering night terrors in you but this is a good sign I may actually find it scary so I appreciate this info 😆
