For a long time, Germany treated any mention of nazis or depictions of swastikas as basically infohazards, scp style. You can't become the fascist if you don't know what a fascist is, or so the thinking went. Imo a lot of what was really happening was German guilt and attempting to hide history from their youth.

We have answered the question: can you scream with no mouth?

The answer is yes. The scream is coming from the eyes.

Tesla is recalling its Cybertruck for the fourth time to fix problems with trim pieces that can come loose and front windshield wipers that can fail | The new recalls each affect over 11,000 trucks ( apnews.com )

The company says in the documents that the front windshield wiper motor controller can stop working because it’s getting too much electrical current. A wiper that fails can cut visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The Austin, Texas, company says it knows of no crashes or injuries caused by the problem....

No, 11,000 were effected by the recall. There's way more morons with money in this country. I'm in CA and I saw 3 of them on my 10 minute drive to my favorite pizza joint.

What do you think the Great Filter is?

The Great Filter is the idea that, in the development of life from the earliest stages of abiogenesis to reaching the highest levels of development on the Kardashev scale, there is a barrier to development that makes detectable extraterrestrial life exceedingly rare. The Great Filter is one possible resolution of the Fermi...

Time itself is the filter. I don't think we are the first, but I don't think we will every find any other intelligent life. The universe is too big and our lives are far too short to make any sort of attempt to travel or communicate across those distances ourselves. I'm also not entirely confident our idea of what a society is will last in any meaningful way over the timespans required. Our longest lasting dynasties rarely make it more than a couple hundred years. Space is just too big for us to work with using our current understanding of physics.

Pushing Ice by Alastair Reynolds is one of my favorite scifi books and it deals with this question in an interesting way. It proposes that Time is the great filter. Life exists in this galaxy, but intelligent life is so fleeting when considering galactic distances that the probability of one sentient lifeform finding another during their "peaks" is vanishingly small. Extinction, societal collapse, evolution to a higher form, whatever you want to imagine, it all gets in the way of the fantasy of meeting a thinking being from another planet.

The only thing I vividly remember from this movie is the pretty lady just about sitting on Hugh Jackmans face.

Why not serve fried chicken on Juneteenth? How is it different from serving corned beef on St. Patrick’s day? ( old.lemmy.world )

Disclaimer: I am not trolling, I am an autistic person who doesn’t understand so many social nuances. Also I am from New Hampshire (97% white), so I just don’t have any close African-American friends that I am willing to risk asking such a loaded question.

NDA's are legally unenforcable anyways. You know what's totally legally enforceable? Shunning plague carriers. Lmao I honestly hope you get out of yout typhoid mary phase before you kill someone you care about, but we all wish bad things happen to bad people.

LordGimp ,

That's how virus carriers work. Blood clean of any way to stop the spread. Lmao gimme that muddy bloody soup full of every antibody known on this planet. My body is full of legions of Rambo mfs looking to fuck up any intruder on sight. Your blood is an open field with a welcome mat and a bottle of wine. My infection is killed off in hours while yours sets up a nice summer home to come back every year.

You know where clean bloodlines end up? On headstones.

Picked up MW5 Mercenaries the other day and liked it so much I picked up all thr DLCs for it too. Not sure that was the best move as a few early mechs have some annoyingly powerful equipment

Welder. I make the sparky sparky hot and sticky with the metals.

Do you worry about UV exposure from the sun?

You can block the vast majority of harmful welding radiation with a long sleeve tee shirt. Throw on some sunscreen if you're paranoid about it. I generally wear a lab coat and that's plenty.

If you want something to worry about, worry about gas exposure. You can't see it, generally can't smell it, and if you can feel it, you're probably already fucked. Argon asphyxiation is particularly insidious. Close ur eyes for a little snooze on the job and wake up to meet God.

With the recent issues of transgender people in sports, why don’t we move some sports over to a weight-class system?

Obviously this won’t work for all sports, but things like football, track, soccer, it would allow for de-gendered team, even allowing athletes with the skills but not the genetically-endowed physical attributes to have a place to play....

The bigger difference imo is the brain development due to hormones in the womb. Old TLC program had a whole section on this suggesting it's why STEM fields are generally male dominated. Turns out hormones that determine biological gender also very much effect the development of the brain, and the male chemicals tend to develop the spatial reasoning part of the brain faster/more thoroughly than those who get don't get the male chemicals and stay female. This average higher spatial reasoning capacity creates an advantage in tasks or objectives where complex visualizations are necessary, like visualizing chess moves in your head.

It's not some massive, overwhelming difference, but it's enough to tilt the table. Play out that average enough and you have 42 women out of 2500 chess grandmasters

LordGimp ,

Bro they had a lot of wild shit back in the day. I remember that term specifically because they couldn't use the word "sex" on the program and had to bend over backwards using every other possible phrase.

LordGimp ,

I just watched a whole Astrum video about this. It's less about one being hotter than the other and more about the seasons being more extreme. The orbit of our planet is actually a little egg shaped, and the closest we pass to the sun happens to be in early January. In the north, due to our tilt, it happens during winter, giving us a more mild season. In the south, the opposite is true. They have hotter summers and colder winters than we do.
