Why not serve fried chicken on Juneteenth? How is it different from serving corned beef on St. Patrick’s day? ( old.lemmy.world )

Disclaimer: I am not trolling, I am an autistic person who doesn’t understand so many social nuances. Also I am from New Hampshire (97% white), so I just don’t have any close African-American friends that I am willing to risk asking such a loaded question.

Serious question: how do I tell the difference?

Thank you! TIL Black people were mocked for liking those foods. They are the best, racists are only hurting themselves if they don’t eat it!

Why?

THANK YOU for your input! My dad was born and raised in Missouri, and I was taught at an early age how to make “real” fried chicken, which is amazing. I couldn’t understand why it would be denigrated, but your reply explains it so well. And TIL watermelon should be salted!

Thank you, this helped a lot!

Good point!

Because of a thread that is linked to the question.

His initial response was basically, “I married you, no matter how you are described!” He started reading up on autism though, and a couple of days later, he said very seriously that he had heard that many autists don’t like to be touched much, and since his “love language” is pats and cuddles and hugs, he wasn’t sure if he could handle that well. I replied that since we have been happily married for 38 years and have had three children, that I don’t think our snuggling habits are going to suddenly change. And they haven’t!
