Joked with my work ND group. "So, who's watching the old cis white men going at it tonight?" My co-workers laughed, but then we discussed the failings of the current guy, but how we were all going to vote for him anyways -- because the alternative was just horrible! Especially for folks who are (which a lot of us are).

TBH, between my work support group and @actuallyautistic here on Mastodon, I've finally found the community support that I truly needed. I know I'm not alone, I'm able to articulate my experiences, and I'm not filtered by commercial/consumer algorithms. So grateful!

Fellow was part of the protest on 6/22/2024!

"Amid her calls for governments to act on climate change, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg has spoken openly about her Asperger’s syndrome and obsessive-compulsive disorder. She is not the only environmental campaigner to speak about being neurodivergent (having a neurological condition or disability) – something Thunberg describes as her 'superpower'.

"In the UK, naturalists and have both discussed their autism. Packham has said that it has been 'enormously beneficial' to his career.

"In my doctoral research, I interviewed 23 youth activists, conservation workers and environmentalists to examine the link between nature experiences and mental health in an era of climate breakdown. My findings shed light on the motivations and intentions of neurodivergent people who work in the environmental and conservation sector, as well as those who are drawn to climate activism.

"Many of my participants had been diagnosed with mental health, psychiatric and neurological conditions including autism, and disorder. They reported finding community and a sense of purpose in the movement and through a connection with ."

So, it's cool enough that I finally have the urge to put on my zippered hooded sweatshirt again. Part of my involves being comfortable with fabric against my skin -- and not having that (and having to wear short sleeve shirts) has been unbearable. That means it's way too hot for me.

@DoomsdaysCW @actuallyautistic have to wear socks, but hate wearing shoes indoors. Very much dislike having bare legs unless it's very hot. Absolutely hate skirts and dresses, especially if I'm outside. I wear light, summery trousers all year. I'm okay with short sleeves but usually wear a cardi or shirt over a T.

@Aerliss @DoomsdaysCW @actuallyautistic I have a problem with parts of my skin – especially on the torso and arms - becoming hyper sensitive from the fabric, touching it. It is not uncommon at all for me to take off my shirt and bra and run around topless in the middle of the workday.

One of the many reasons that remote work is important ;)

So, there is a support group for ND folks at my current workplace. Something I've been hearing again and again from fellow Autistic employees is how when we drop our masks (for whatever reason -- though a lot of the time it might be after we receive our official diagnoses), that all of a sudden we're considered "difficult" and "too rigid". In my case, I didn't have much of a mask to begin with (and even was described with those terms in a previous position, which I resigned from). I'm curious as to how many other Autists have had that happen to them -- especially after dropping their masks?

Congratulations on getting approved. That's hard to accomplish.

Also, I am sorry for how hard it has been.
