Lots of programming actually. Rewrote a thing from scratch and now it's so much better. Feels good. :)

Dymonika ,

What language? I recently restructured a URL tracker-purging script in AutoHotkey; trying to use arrays more!

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

This may surprise you, but in Lua!

I used to be a big user of neovim and heavily into plugins and messing with my configs, and lua is the language built into neovim for doing things like that.

One of my neovim plugins had annoying bugs due to evolving to support more and more features, and it was time for a rewrite to make it all clean again.

Been a while since I posted one of these, things are going well, work is keeping me busy and my free time is kept busy by my girlfriend. Time is just flying by, but it's fun at least.

Teamwork counts for a lot especially with Beehaw; but this endeavour was really all GW. Their hardworking and efforts handling this has been tremendous. Way more work than should have been required.

That damn bastard making me look bad. /s gonna b& them.

Not the best. Have some kind of recurring fungal infection that I've just been slapping with OTC cream, but it keeps popping back up in random places. Had two yeast infections this month. I don't think I'm particularly unhygienic so I don't know what's going on, but I've racked up enough medical bills and my savings are gone due to moving expenses.

Speaking of moving... no progress. My friend who owns a van forgot they were going to help me on my day off 🙁 I think I'm getting depressed being stuck in my current place surrounded by boxes.

I'm also lonely. I lied and told my long-distance friends that I'm taking a screen break to focus on moving, but actually I needed time away from them. I have moral scrupulosity OCD and they know it but keep doing things that aggravate it, like reading these really intense moral stances into things I say and self-flagellating for not conforming to what they think my opinion is. One of them told me outright that he bases his morals on me. (I'm a mean, paranoid dropout with no background in ethics, social sciences, or philosophy, so this is a baffling choice.)

I know my mental health is my responsibility and it's not their fault I have OCD, but my mind tortures me when I'm around them. I feel like a cult leader. Like I'm going to break them, or lead them into trouble. On top of that, they can't stand the rituals I developed before talking to them. So in this case I think taking responsibility for my mental health actually means fucking off. I'm focusing on befriending my coworkers and keeping it extremely casual. I never want anyone to be that invested in me again.

I hope next week I can post about how I'm happy in a new place and my coworkers liked getting sushi.

rozwud ,

Congrats on taking control of your mental health and distancing yourself from people who make that hard to do. I hope you're able to have some fun times with your coworkers!

Alice ,

Thank you ❤️ it makes me sad though, because I know my friends act the way they do because they have trouble controlling their anxiety. Now that I've thought about it, I don't hold it against them because that's exactly what my disorder is.

It just sucks because I don't want to let this shit control my relationships, and I doubt they do either. They're all really funny, creative, passionate people, and they deserve safe friendships as much as I do.

rozwud ,

welp, time to explain why I don't have a desktop after my post two weeks ago that I had to put new parts in.

the short version is that the motherboard's AMD bracket was covered mostly by a plastic piece that said "REMOVE" so I did that, but it wasn't clear that I was supposed to put it back on. ultimately when I kept trying to put things together and they didn't work, some of the motherboard's CPU pins got crushed, and now I have to hope I can get another. I'm trying to return it to amazon and use the money for a second one, but we'll see how that goes. the CPU itself might be damaged too, it's not clear, and I have no way of testing it without the motherboard. I feel really dumb for not knowing that the bracket was supposed to go there. and I can't just buy a new one right now because being on disability sucks.

originally I thought it had been the RAM since I was told the motherboard was finnicky with it, but I had to take two sets of it back after I found out it was the motherboard. thankfully my cousin looked at it and is willing to put things together for me again. it's just waiting on amazon is killing me. I spend a lot of time at my desktop (especially because it's going to be over 90 degrees here for a while) and my laptop is a low end gaming one from 6 years ago. it can't run much, including my favorite game, although I can play it for very short periods of time. I broke out my nintendo switch to play, but that's not helping the depression too much.

some issues with my partner popped up, as well as some with my mother, and I just don't feel great. been trying to do what I can for that (like making some posts here) but it's a battle and I wish I didn't have to have it. I hope the week improves but I'm just tired already.

Aloomineum ,

It sucks when life feels like a smash mouth song and the hits don't stop coming. Hope you can fix your mobo/cpu problem without spending any extra money. Sounds like things are tough right now, I hope your week improves too :)

Gormadt , in Unsure where to post but does anyone else think beehaw is s little too closed off?
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Because of it being so closed off I've hopped instances

And honestly I'm probably going to hop again because having down votes disabled isn't very good IMO

Edit: 1 big thing though that I wish existed Lemmy wide would be if you have a comment or post removed (hell even bans) you get a message to your inbox. As it currently stands it just happens and unless you check mod logs you'll never know.

How is blahaj zone?

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It's pretty chill in general and is well moderated

It's has the occasional instability day here and there but it gets sorted out pretty quick

They don't federate down votes and you can't give them out which IMO isn't the best

But I'd say it's a nice place overall

You are mad at the person who said that, upon hearing them say it, for being wrong and then made a post about it which is the appropriate response.

Seems it's possible to me. You've just done it, OP.

I'd say it's going well! The sun decided to come back out, literally and figuratively, which is great for my new plane photography hobby lol. Mother's Day was alright, we went to my aunt and uncle's with my dad to barbecue. First Mother's Day without my mom, which was rough, but it's just a celebration to capitalism more than anything, so keeping that in mind helped when seeing all the cards and flower displays at the store. I did allow myself the opportunity to feel sad by walking up to the card section and picking out the one I know I'd have gotten her (it had butterflies, which she loved).

Thanks for letting me journal like this. It really does help to write it out, kind of like writing a letter and not sending it to anybody.

Anyway, have some pictures. I'm getting into photography again, and I'm excited to share :)

xilliah , in I've noticed a lot of chill religious people on Lemmy.
@xilliah@beehaw.org avatar

I run into anti religious people sometimes and then I like to mention that I feel we can all make it our own. It's just a human thing.

Of course it is nice when you have a community too but you can still be religious without that. Take the Bible for example. You don't have to be into what your local community is saying. You can get into that stuff in your own way, just the way you think is right. Nobody owns that.

Cube6392 , in Unsure where to post but does anyone else think beehaw is s little too closed off?
@Cube6392@beehaw.org avatar

So... Yes and no. Yes from the perspective that there can be a feeling of FOMO and some entire communities on the big instances that see a lot of activity that you can't access here. I use slrpnk.net to see those. But the thing is when I log into slrpnk (which is VERY well moderated) it doesn't take me long to find some horrible awfulness that has found a platform here in the fediverse. Genocide denial, alt right bullshit, authoritarian communist bullshit (which isn't even communism, GODDAMMIT), it's all out there right under the surface across some of the biggest Lemmy instances. Its bad enough it makes me not want to log into log in to see what's going on on Lemmy most days, so I don't. I probably check beehaw about once a week and slrpnk about once a month.

I'm very excited to see where sublinks goes and if they can put together a version of a federated link aggregator with moderation tools that work

sleepybisexual OP ,
@sleepybisexual@beehaw.org avatar

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@discuss.online avatar

One thought is to try user blocking Lemmy.ml. Unlike an instance block a user one is not sufficient bc you can still view the comments, and I'm pretty sure that they can still downvote you (occasionally they have been known to coordinate mass downvoting campaigns on Matrix too, people say), so all it really does is block communities from those instances from showing in your All feed, and if someone replies to you then you won't receive a notification to that effect. Otherwise it's back to blocking users one by one...

I wish there was a major, known instance somewhere that defederated from Lemmy.ml. Even Kbin.Social does not though.

It will indeed be interesting to see how Sublinks will improve things.:-)

I'm aware of the cliche. What is why I drove from Portland to Tsawwassen on Thanksgiving night 1999 to catch the ferry over to Vic and bring my Canadian girlfriend down for the rest of the weekend.

I just thought that would be the end of it.

Alice , in how's your week going, Beehaw

It's been more of the same, but that's not a bad thing. I've been remembering my food prep, hitting by gym goals, and even drawing a little bit. Just sketches of my own characters and some embarrassing nude studies, but sketching is the fun part anyway.

I did get into an argument at the start of this week and in hindsight it was completely my fault. I notice that I'm a lot better at talking to people when I'm on adderall; I have an easier time listening, and I can think about what I want to say clearer. I only have it in my system for about four hours a day, though, so I'm gonna start being more careful outside that window. Never realized I had this problem until I suddenly started having better conversations with my coworkers.

Getting a little restless as they just told me that I need 22 more weeks of refinement on my dental aligners. I get insurance through my work so I can't quit until I'm finished with all my dental work, but I'm so ready to go to tech school!
