For those interested, before the Very Special Military Operation, the 83rd Airborne Brigade had about 40,000 men.

It's my second week drinking that Four Sisters Donut Shop Blend from Grocery Outlet, and... It's okay...

It's not completely awful, and it's definitely functionally caffeinated, but without a paper filter it's bitter.

With a filter, it does have a sweetness and fruity acidity that's nice.

As if it's made as a filter coffee, which sounds weird, but I suppose it must be possible.

Speaking of paper filters, I started using a mesh filter in my aeropress, and... The result tastes very similar to my French press...

I got a pack of two mesh filters: One 250 microns, the other 200 microns, and the 200 micron filter doesn't let any fines through at all.

I am alternating days between the two, and I have to say the paper filter in the Aeropress makes a huge improvement in smoothness and taste.

There's supposed to be a heat wave here next week, so I might have to start my own experiment with cold brew too...

Without fuzes, which are only screwed in just before firing, modern artillery shells are really difficult to set off.

If you think about it, the act of firing a shell out of a cannon and sending it miles away is pretty violent, but the shells don’t explode in the cannon.

Without the correct fuzes, the shells won’t even explode when they land.

The official reason for the introduction of the six-day work week is that there is a shortage of skilled workers on the Greek labor market as the population keeps shrinking and the country losing scores of thousands of workers who fled during the economic and austerity crisis in search of jobs in other countries.

So "The austerity and beatings will continue until morale improves."

zabadoh ,

Might also be a sign of a stalemate this is in this area.

Don't blame the writers, some of whom are long dead, and some titles are long out of print.

Another opinion from a random pro-Russian idiot's website.

What is going on with the tankies posting here today?

zabadoh ,

BOO!!! A pro-Russia channel. Massive tankie comments.

zabadoh ,

This is likely fake news.

If true, this would be an important story, but it hasn't been picked up by any major news outlets as far as I can tell.

I am corrected by @sprack and retract my comment.

zabadoh ,

I stand corrected, thank you!

The AI has announced that its first bill will be the Kill All Humans Act.

Requires installation of weird undefined "CutoutPro" shit.

That's a nope from me, dawg.

zabadoh ,

Yes, I did try to install it on Windows.

Still, that really disqualifies it from being open source...

Like "free" software requiring installation of weird browser toolbars back in the day. I still have nightmares about those things.

Many people are just siloed into social media rabbit holes.

If you happen to fall down the wrong one, bam, you're off to join ISIS, or support Russia, or vote for convicted felon Donald "unified Reich" Trump.

zabadoh ,

Yes, that's happening in all advanced countries due to declining birth rates.

I wish that made me more confident that they can make decent Trek movies and TV, but it doesn't

Russia's intervention in Syria in 2015, initially aimed at supporting President Assad’s regime, during the civil war, has led to a permanent deployment of thousands of Russian troops there.

Moscow relocated some troops and equipment from Syria to the Ukrainian battlefield last autumn of 2022, potentially making their troops in Syria more vulnerable to Ukraine's attacks in the region.

At the same time, given a prolonged presence in the region, the Russians have created multiple recruitment centers for the deployment of Syrian mercenaries in Ukraine.

The recruitment of mercenaries is conducted under the supervision of the “Center for the Reconciliation of Opposing Sides and Refugee Movement Control” from the Russian-occupied Khmeimim Air Base.

There, mercenaries are issued Russian passports and then mobilized into the Russian Armed Forces.

In May 2023, HUR Chief Kyrylo Budanov vowed to “destroy Russian war criminals anywhere in the world, wherever they are.”

In addition to Syria, Ukrainian HUR special forces continue their hunt for pro-Kremlin Wagner PMC mercenaries in Sudan.

Ah, I was wondering why they would do this...

Yeah I know right, what Bradley? That could have been anything firing off screen to the right.

That could have been John Wick off screen firing at them.

Where do y'all recommend looking to find no-disc game patches in general?

Mostly asking because I've never used these before due to never needing to. That, and I have a few old disc based PC games that I'd love to be able to straight up boot without the game disc. These are games I could just pirate, but I figure I already own them in disc, so I'd rather see if there are any reputable places with...

zabadoh ,

Those no-disc patches can be sketchy and infected, so watch out!

My preferred way to play games without CDs was virtual disc emulators, so you can store a copy of your game disc on your hard drive, and virtually pop that game's CD image into the virtual drive in when you want to play that specific game.

One good trick with these, is that you don't even need a full copy of the disc: There was some trick to creating a very small disc image that just has enough information to get past the game's copy protection, but it's been well over 2 decades since I did any of that, so you'll have to do your own research.

zabadoh ,

The full disc images worked well, and hard drive space is so cheap these days, that I'd worry about getting the virtual drive emulator working first.

WinCDEmu is FOSS, so you might look into that first.

Back in the day, I bought Alcohol 120, and it worked great.

I thought they used standard VOG anti-personnel fragmentation grenades on drone drops.

Maybe those aren't powerful enough, or he's preparing an anti-vehicle munition, or some other special-purpose munition?

I see nothing wrong with this speculation, from a US point of view: A wave of Mexican climate refugees from Mexico City could fuel the Republican propaganda machine tar Biden as being soft on the border, and help Trump. Even though sadly Republicans in the Senate are blocking a bipartisan Senate border security bill.

Although Mexico is having a presidential election too, which makes the statement somewhat ambiguous, although Mexico's election day is really soon on June 2nd, which is well before summer.

Supposedly there are former Russian POWs in both the Freedom of Russia Legion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_Russia_Legion?#History which fights under the UAF International Legion, and the right wing Russian Volunteer Corps https://www.aljazeera.com/features/2024/4/23/i-want-to-make-up-for-mistakes-the-russian-pows-fighting-for-ukraine

In the case of that Al Jazeera article, the POW who was recruited was part of a prisoner exchange and was on a bus about go back to Russia.

p.s. Thanks @MESSENGER_24 the tracks you post here are great!

Thanks, and Oh wow, that's William Goldsmith, a former KPIG and KFAT DJ. KFAT was great! KPIG is apparently still around, but you have to pay to get the stream if you're not in the Santa Cruz area to tune in.

My local Walmart has given up on Aeropress, so I picked one up today in the clearance shelves for USD$15. The price label says it normally sells for $34.98.

I'll give a report after I figure out how it's best for me to use it.

For my daily driver french press, it's back to working on that bag of Mexican organic dark roast whole beans that I got at Grocery Outlet months ago.

For a dark roast, it's smooth and sweet.

Being able to grind a week's worth of brews at a time is helping the beans retain their flavor longer, I hope.

I picked up a bag of Four Sisters dark roast donut shop blend grounds, again from Grocery Outlet, so I'll be trying that out in the next week or two.

Again looking at what's in Grocery Outlet, I just can't bring myself to buy a bag of Dunkin Donuts beans/grounds with less than a month to their best by date, when there are better options.

zabadoh ,

What kind(s) of coffee have you found work well with that recipe? Dark? Medium?

zabadoh ,

2nd attempt: It worked! Preheating the mug, half-filling the aeropress with water and grounds, stirring to wet all the grounds, blooming the grounds for 15 seconds, then filling the rest of the volume with fresh hot water just before pressing resulted in a nice hot cuppa!

The taste was about the same as last time: Strong, but without the oily aftertaste of french drip.

Things I am not liking about the aeropress: Fiddling with the paper filters before I've had coffee - They are sticking together. I'm looking into the stainless mesh filters both OEM and third party, Plastic - Although it feels well made and durable, a mostly glass or stainless steel version would be welcome for environmental purposes, and microplastics anyone? Although I suppose the silicone plunger is unavoidable, The brewing process feels bit fiddly - I'm not used to it and haven't optimized my process yet.

zabadoh ,

I have also heard that paper filters block the fragrant oils, so we'll see when I start playing around with mesh filters.

I'm still working on that same huge bag of Mexican organic that I've been brewing for the last month, so I know exactly what it should taste like.

An increase in bad seeds on Bit Torrent?

So I've been grabbing a few shows I want to watch reruns of while playing Balatro that don't have good blu ray releases. My piracy is fairly limited these days so I don't bother with private trackers (do have a VPN though). In the past, I never really had an issue with grabbing a few one offs off the popular, maybe honeypot,...

zabadoh ,

I have also noticed some dips in brightness in some shows.

Sounds like an encoding problem, or some sort of form of copy protection in the streamed video that screws up the encoding algorithms, like the old Macrovision copy protection on VHS tapes.

The drop in global fertility has fuck-all to do with glyphosate.

The article doesn't comment on linking fertility and glyphosate in sperm either way, but it's worth researching, if someone hasn't studied that already.

zabadoh OP ,

Most plants survive just fine on their own.

What spraying herbicide like glyphosate does is evolutionarily select for pesticide resistant weeds, aka superweeds. Free gift link for you.

zabadoh OP ,

It's a statement of suspicion, not a conclusion of causality towards glyphosate specifically.
