... It did not indicate when the child died or their specific age.

So we just know they were somewhere between 0 and 5.

The tldr says 2013, but the full article calls it "the first such death in the province since 1989, when tracking began."

I don't recall being warned away from facebook, google, etc. when it was revealed that all of the data they collect is accessible by the US government. China is supposed to be an adversary or whatever but the US has a much greater track record of meddling in affairs outside their borders...kinda feels like this is just ideology on display.

And comments like this show the damage done by such whitewashed reporting. The most documented genocide in history is happening before our eyes and Canadians "don't have a dog in this fight."

Note that 'authoritarian' tendencies only need to become visible when the people broadly turn against the ruling class. It's like Ford's "any colour you want, as long as it's black." Sounds like freedom until you start demanding a red one.

I am a former immigration minister. Unsustainable population increases won't solve Canada's underlying issues - The Hub ( thehub.ca )

The bottom line is that immigrants, students, and workers chose Canada over centuries because we sustained high levels of growth and high standards of living. Canada’s declining affluence over the past decade undermines this pull factor.

This is anecdotal, but I've known several people who immigrated and then chose to return to their home country. In at least one case, specifically because of the cost of living.

This makes me think of movies, the scenes when like Godzilla or the stay puft marshmallow man or something shows up and everyone just gets out of their cars and runs away on foot. Movies are silly but in a panic scenario the car could easily become more of a hindrance than anything.

eatCasserole ,

What do people who don't own cars do in this scenario?

eatCasserole ,

I almost have the proper gear for this... I'm sure I could make it work in an emergency. A good contingency idea. I think I've done about 80k in a day before, and it wasn't particularly strenuous... you can cover a lot of ground on a bike if you just keep going.

This reminds me of watching a Vietnamese YouTuber talking about getting through a major typhoon. I don't think they explained how the buses were organized, but there were buses.

It's not just remote places that can get evacuated.

I don't live in the north, don't own a car, and don't worry about it, but if something catastrophic were to happen here, I hope there would be options for the many non-car-having people.
