If a party is consistently a close third or even second in some opinion polls, the media HAS to cover them more. Not only to be representative, but also to scrutinise.

If only someone could have foreseen such a problem arising. 🤔

Options for non-smart TV in UK 2024?

I am considering replacing my old 50" 1080p TV which I use with (external) Chromecast and Roku. I would like a 4K display 60" or greater but I really, really don't want any smart features. I am aware that I could purchase a commercial display to achieve this and that's my fallback option. Can anyone here make any useful...

Jackthelad ,

What's wrong with just "not connecting it"?

Jackthelad ,

Don't update it then? 🤷

Jackthelad ,

It's just the ultra paranoid on here, who think that someone knowing they watch The Mandalorian is going to be used against them in some way.

Jackthelad ,

Well, this blows the "if you've not done anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about" argument out of the water.

I got lucky in a sad way recently with discovering a song I'd had stuck in my head.

It was "Peter Gunn" by Duane Eddy, and I finally got the name of the song but only because of the news of his death.

My Pixel 4a's battery is on the wane, so this may be my next phone.

Probably wait for a price drop though because I'm not desperate for it at the moment.

Jackthelad ,

Lol. I'm sure this will definitely work.

Jackthelad ,

Employers do this partly to make sure you can follow simple instructions, and so they know you're paying attention to the job you're applying for.

Jackthelad ,

It's an online petition. If petitions actually had the power to change anything, they wouldn't let you sign them. The response will always be some mealy-mouthed rubbish.

Frankly, this isn't anything to do with the government anyway, nor should they be getting involved.

The Lemmy devs are a bunch of tankie weirdos, so I'm definitely not going to give money to them.

Jackthelad ,

Lemmy.ml is the devs instance, and they have a habit of banning anyone who even slightly differs from their opinions. Basically, if you're not a tankie like them, they will likely ban you.

They're not interested in free discussions.

This is why I don't understand all the hysteria about this.

If I don't want to see Threads or I don't want Threads to see me, I can go to a Threads account and click "block threads.net".

But obviously that's too complicated and it's easier to just whinge to your instance admin about how Threads federation will be the death of us all. 🙄

Jackthelad ,

And still people are crying about this.

You can literally change to another instance. That's the entire point of the Fediverse. If you don't like a decision the admin has taken, you can move elsewhere.

The entitlement of some people these days is ridiculous.

Workers at companies that tested out a 4-day workweek are happier and more efficient — and firms made more money. One lawmaker says it's 'here to stay.'::The latest data shows that workers and companies prosper under a four-day workweek. Rep. Mark Takano wants to make it law.

Jackthelad ,

I mean, did this really need testing to find it would work?

Working fewer days is obviously going to make us happier and, as a result, work better.
