I have a "turn off the laser pointer" routine with my cat - nothing crazy, I just bring the pointer up right next to her and cover the dot, turn it off, and then pick it up and let her smell the end. The specifics don't matter, but she knows that that routine means the laser pointer goes away, and a physical toy comes out next to give her something to actually catch.
My then-sixtyish year old dad bought a unicycle. He also bought a pair of ski poles to help him balance while learning to ride it by traveling up and down a long hallway in his home.
This doesn't really add anything to the conversation, but I've always found it funny and rarely had an opportunity to share it.
I don't think there was anyone around at the time who suggested that it was a good idea, heh.
At the time, my mom - his wife of 27 years - had recently died and I think he was trying to find himself again. Unicycles with ski poles weren't the only odd decisions he made.
Literally every game by Supergiant. Most recent would be Hades 2, when I finally beat the 3rd boss and start slashing into the fourth area, the music was so hype I was smiling all the way through.
A better pick may be Transistor though. It's kind of a half action half strategy game, where you kind of pause to plan out and execute your next moves. During that pause phase, the music would turn into a muted version, and main character would hum to it in sync.
Also, Journey and Abzu. They simply are experiences that should not be had without good headphones.
As the credits roll, Red sings for the first time in the game. The death of her lover at the beginning of the story turns her mute, which is why she only ever hums to the music in the game. During your first play-through. At the end of the game, the credits roll to the tune of "Paper Boats" which is the first song in the game to have lyrics, sung by Red.
It's an emotional high point that hits hard. She can sing again!
But there's more.
In new game+ Red no longer hums during all pause screens. She now sings the previously unheard lyrics of several songs in the game!
That game has been on my wishlist since before release, still looking forward to getting around to playing it. The original game was the first real video game I got into as a kid so I hope this one lives up to expectations.
Fell in love with Rivet completely against expectations. I know Jennifer Hale is great and I don't dislike any of her performances, but many of the characters she has portrayed blur together for me.
With Rivet though, she gave an extremely unique and adorable performance, to the point I forgot it was her and just enjoyed the heck out of the character.
Not just an active warzone, but I'm willing to bet you can see the military airbase from that beach.
On the other hand, they might not even know about the recent streak of Ukraine missile attacks on Russian sites. For all they know, not being in a city keeps them perfectly safe, since that's what Russia launches it's drones at..
In my youth I used to have to "make weight" for fights so you naturally start doing the numbers with food about 6-8 weeks out and you become used to gaining and losing weight and have an understanding of the discomfort that's involved. You also become good at eyeballing people for their weight class.
That man in the picture on the phone was a chonk (not being offensive here, he was a big lad). He looks over 90KG to me and a lot of it is muscle (edit: that's 200lbs in freedom units). His biceps and triceps are big. He's a strong man.
The man holding the picture of his former self has been starved. Your body uses fat stores for energy, but it needs more than just energy. You need vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids.
If you're using it in any way, your body will generally hold onto muscle unless there's a shortfall in essential amino acids and at that point it looks at your muscles as reserves.
That is what happened here. He was given so little food that all his fat reserves were used and so little nutrition that his body ate it's muscle to survive.
Look into his eyes. I don't see the eyes of a broken soul, i see optimism and a sane mind. This man also has immense will power.
I really don't know how well i would handle being forced to fight in a war, being held captive or killing any human. I don't know how much of my mind would make it out sane.
